Playstation 3 Blu Wave Remote

Great product that makes Blu Ray DVD playing very simple. Works out of the box.
It allows playing all Blu Ray DVD's on my 1080p HDTV.

Not bad - but why go backwards in technology?

Truthfully, this remote does what it says it does, and it isn't a horrible solution to playing movies on the PS3. The "issue" is that there is a *much* better solution: Sony PlayStation 3 Blu-ray Disc Remote. Bluetooth so you don't need to worry about line-of-sight, intuitive for a no-brainer out of the box experience, and designed by Sony specifically for the PS3 so absolutely no issues. Returned the Blu-Wave remote, got the BlueTooth remote, never been happier.
No extra functionality

The most critical thing you need to know about this remote is that, unlike the Sony Bluetooth remote, or a real ir to bluetooth solution, it doesn't offer any functionality that the game controller doesn't give you. In fact, it offers less - as it has no PS button, and can't power off the PS3.
That said, this is probably the cheapest solution to let you get some control with a universal remote - but it only offers you 16 functions. The Sony bluetooth remote is about $10 more, and offers 51 functions. Off of amazon, you can find the PS3IRX1 that offers 14 functions (missing L3 and R3) from the Sony PS2 IR remote, plus power off (but not on), for another $5. This is not a remote, it's just the USB dongle, for people who already have a universal remote. It's main advantage is that it looks like it was built with the PS3 - you'll forget you have it. For considerably more, you can get an IR2BT or PS3IR-PRO, which are real IR to Bluetooth translators, giving you the full 50+ button functionality via your ir universal remote.

Easy set up. Got it to work with Logitech Harmony remote to control PS3. Works great. It won't turn PS3 on and off but you have to put in a disc anyway so turn it on while you're there!
This PS3 remote does not turn your PS3 on/off

This is a good remote for hooking up your PS3 to a universal remote control (eg: Logitech Harmony) however it does not provide the ability to turn your PS3 on or off.
(This is because the remote's receiver runs off USB and USB requires power first to operate).
Therefore you must either leave your PS3 on all the time or manually switch the PS3 on evertime you need to use the PS3 remote.

I bought this device for the infrared USB dongle. I can now control my Playstaion 3 using my Logitech Harmony One remote.
Just okay, could be better 2008-08-15
I don't recommend this remote unless you need the IR receiver so you can use a universal remote such as a Harmony remote. The remote control that comes in this package is very cheap feeling and also does not give you that much control over your PS3.
Unless you absolutely need the IR receiver, I recommend the Sony PlayStation 3 Blu-ray Disc Remote instead. It gives you a PS button as well as additional buttons such as audio/subtitle and eject; all buttons that the Nyko remote does not have. Also with the Sony one, you do not need any usb dongle plugged into the front of the PS3 (which looks sorta of weird).
Perfect Device to sync PS3 with Harmony Remote 2008-08-14
I looked at several options before deciding to go with the nyko. 1)The IR2BT, which is pretty much useless after one of Sony's latest firmwares.
2) Schmart adapter, which which offers full control including power on/off, but costs over 100 dollars. 3) Nyko blu-wave, offers full control except for power on/off, costs 20 dollars.
For the price, this item cannot be beat. Harmony has the Blu-Wave in their database, so I added it, and was controlling my PS3 through my Harmony 550 in less than 3 minutes! Trouble free operation and worth every cent. There is no power off/on, but I go to my PS3 anyways to put the disc in, so really the only thing missing is power off. But that is really not even worth mentioning as its such a minor thing. I really love this product and give it 5 out of 5.

When I bought my PS3 a Sony PS3 remote came with it it in a deal. What an annoying piece of junk. Every time I used it it needed to reprogram to work.
The Blue wave remote worked flawlessly.
