Lousy toy

It sounded good and my twin 6 year old daughters wanted it for their birthday. So we bought them each one. I has not worked consistenly and the voice recognition was terrible. It really was a waste of money.
LPS DISAPPOINTMENT!! :(

My 7yr old wanted this reallly bad for her birthday. I didn't really want her to have it, but we gave in. It was the biggest disappointment ever!! We bought it home, put brand new batteries in it & it didn't work. My husband & I tried to do her password for her & that didn't work either. We took it back to the store the same day we bought it. DON'T WASTE YOUR $25 on this piece of junk!
Frustrated

My 6 year old had this toy on her Christmas list and was very excited when she received it. Since that time, we have not been able to get the diary to recognize her voice despite many attempts. We used short one-syllable words with hard consonant sounds and it never would work. She and I were both about to scream by the end of our 20+ minutes trying. She is still glad to have it, but wishes it would work like the commercials say it does.
Don't bother

Absolutely the worst gift I have ever bought my kid. The voice recognition DOES NOT work. We were never able to get it to work, even with the most basic one syllable words you can think of. Trust me on this, keep looking for something better.
No password protected diary here!

I purchased this item for my 7yr old daughter (after much begging), and WE are very disappointed. I agree with the other writers, you should choose a "short HARD one-syllable" password. She started out with "spygirl" and after becoming very fustered changed it to "max". Which worked fine the first few times, but she then decided she wanted to test the diarys "pasword protection", and used another word, and you guessed it the diary opened right up!! My daughter was devistated!! Hasbro needs to do a recall/or rebate on this item as it is now sitting in the closet. Although after a long talk my daughter learned a great lesson, not everything works like you see on TV!! That is why I gave it 2 stars instead of 1!!!
Good toy , but a little difficult to operate

Everyone needs a place to keep secrets sacred, and this pet-purr-fect diary is just the place. Write down your deepest desires or draft notes to your best friend, thenlock them inside the diary. Your very own guard pet will keep watch over your top-secret messages! Choose a password to record. If your diary recognizes the correct password, the guard pet greets you happily and the diary will unlock. If someone is snooping and says an incorrect password, your guard pet will growl or hiss and the diary will not open! Press the button inside and your pet interacts with you. You can even decorate your diary with the fun stickers! Psssst! Keep your password a secret and your guard pooch will help keep your private papers for your eyes only!
Diary comes with pet sticker sheets, 20 sheets of pet notepaper and an exclusive guard pet figure!
frustrating

Like others have said, this toy is very frustrating. I returned one already because I could not get it to hold a password. It just kept opening just by pressing the button. The new one I got is pretty much the same but I did find that you have to hold the diary at least 5 inches away from your mouth to enter the password. It is still a very frustrating thing for my daughter because sometimes it still just opens without even entering the password. So much for her "secret" diary.
Does not work like it should

My daughter got this for Christmas and the password feature goes not work. Her friend down the street got one as well and hers does not work correctly either. My daughter can say ANY word when it asks for her password and it opens. We are disappointed in this toy.
A little over priced

It is a cute toy and our 9 yr old does enjoy playing with it, but setting the password and getting it to reopen when the password is spoken can be a little difficult sometimes.
My daughter loves it but...

The batteries die amazingly fast. The paper is quite small & it isn't really practical for use as a diary. My daughter uses it to keep "treasures" like notes & stickers from her friends rather than utilizing it for a diary. She loves it & that's what we wanted.
