but my brand new unit from Amazon was defective. The electric brake doesn't brake the blade, i sent it back for refund.
A Masterpiece of a Power Tool

I really can't explain the first, one-star customer review of this product at Amazon. I guess that you can get a lemon in anything. This is not a dangerous product, as the review said. Makita is a reputable manufacturer. This saw is and LOOKS high quality. It is beautifully finished and well balanced, with all of the controls and adjustments in the right places. The 5007MGA is essentially the same saw as the highly rated 5007MG, with an important safety improvement, an electronic brake. It also is a bit lighter, 10.1 vs. 10.4 lbs. Potential buyers should search Amazon for the customer reviews of the 5007MG. They will describe what a superb tool this saw really is. I have had two near-misses on other saws after the guard jammed with sawdust, keeping the rotating blade exposed after I set them down. So, I consider a blade brake a "gotta-have". I wish the consumer protection agencies would mandate them on all power saws. They cause more brush wear, but brushes are cheap compared to prosthetics. Unfortunately, after much looking around, this is the only saw of this type that I found that had one. So, I rate this saw as beyond best-in-class. It is in a class by itself. That said, I do have a few quibbles. The case should have room for more than one spare blade; the guard spring should not be exposed, but hidden like the DeWalt, to avoid sawdust jamming it; the case is a bit narrow, so you have to avoid pinching the cord while closing the case; and it is just average in weight (even a 1 lb. reduction helps a lot). That said, I also have to admit that I am a perfectionist regarding tools and an engineer who can't avoid analyzing everything that I buy. Don't walk, run, to buy this saw. Keeping all 20 fingers and toes intact and in all of the right places is just too important.

This thing is powerful, but binds real easy and kicks back like nothin' I've ever seen. I'm afraid to use it. I noticed the blade is very thin kerf and the teeth are flush with the plane of the blade, so I'll try a bit more agressive blade. All the adjustment are positive and easy to use. Can't really use the guard lever because it takes my hand off the second grip, making it scary once again. Oh, the foot is super solid.
