No Handyman Necessary...Really!
2007-08-06
My handyman has profited greatly by my hiring him to install home improvement products that claimed to be "do-it-yourself" and "easy to install." Being a single woman and homeowner, I am embarrassed to admit how often I have been misled. Yet, I was willing to try again. I wanted to research options for more secure locks for my doors. I found the Lock Jaw Security website and viewed the demonstration video. Through this video, I learned about Lock Bumping and why a dead bolt lock just isn't enough. Best of all, this demo video has clear, concise, step-by-step instructions to install this security device permanently or temporarily. My handyman will not be hearing from me this time!
Very affordable security

Every individual or family needs this security device. Expensive electronic security monitoring devices let you know when someone enters your home, but this device keeps that from happening in the first place. Very easy to install, and you are instantly protected with no monthly fees!
Always feel safe!!!!!

This product is great!!
I am a stay-at-home mother of 3 small children. When I saw the news cast on Lock Bumping (Lock picking) it terrified me. A bonus feature, is that it also prevents my toddlers from leaving the house without me knowing it. Yet, if we had to leave the house quickly, I am still able to get out fast. Again, a great product............Thanks!
DORM ROOM SECURITY...PLUS!!!
2007-07-26
Why'll shopping Amazon online for my daughter's first year of college...I also wanted to find a product that could possibly add additional security to their dorm room. Something that was not permanent and yet could easily be removed without causing any sort of damage to the door. I came across the Lock Jaw, which in fact is portable! We simply attached with double-sided stick tape right above the deadbolt. Extremely secure and impossible to enter with any unauthorized key! Highly recommend!
Locked me out!

Other reviewers might not have used this product long enough. Worked great for 4 months or so. BUT, mine malfunctioned and locked me out of the house. It worked great at not letting me in, but I had to get rid of it. I can't even begin to explain how I got back in the house.
Lock Jaw Safety

I feel really secure with this piece of hardware. My nephew installed it easily enough above my dead bolt lock and it looks just fine. There is no way "lock bumping" could open my door once this mechanism is in place. Worth every penny for the secure feeling I now experience.
Simple to install and use.

I saw the lockjaw on TV while it was being shown at a expo. I searched for the product at local retailers but was only able to find it online but at a good price. The lockjaw does work well at keeping the lock in place.
I was disappointed by the cheap screws that came with the lockjaw to mount on the door. I had one break and others strip when being screwed into the door and had to move the lockjaw over a bit to get a new spot for one my own tougher screws. I recommend using better screws to mount or heavy duty mounting tape.
Great product!! However the supplied screws are cheap...

*4.5 stars*
The Lock Jaw is one of the best home security choices out there. It's very affordable and easy to install. It makes "bump keys" obsolete (keys that can open any lock of a certain type) by ensuring that the deadbolt stays in place. If a criminal has a few bump keys (one for every general type of door lock) then you can almost guarantee that he/she will be able to open your front door with stealth and precision. That's pretty scary! But thanks to the Lock Jaw, even if someone tries to open the door with a key made for the lock, the deadbolt cannot retract. The Lock Jaw in conjunction with the "Master Lock Security Bar" will make your front door (or any door with a deadbolt and conventional knob) virtually immune to a break in.
A burglar would most definitely move on to the windows after encountering either of those products, so make sure to get additional locks for the windows as well (and maybe some type of alarm incase they try to break the glass).
Keep in mind that products like this are designed for keeping you safe when you're inside the house (especially at night when you're sleeping). When no one is home, you can't use the Lock Jaw because that would force you to have to break in/out of your own house. Alarms and other security devices are also recommended in addition to this tool. I purchased the "Lock Jaw" and "Master Lock Security Bar" mainly for my girlfriend and two daughters to use when I'm not home. We use them every night so if someone breaks in while we're sleeping, we'd be able to hear it because they would have to break a window.
My only complaint is the supplied mounting screws are VERY cheap. The screws will get stripped every time, making for a frustrating experience. If you watch the demo video they say that you can also mount this thing with double sided tape or Velcro. I would never use tape just because it would probably be too weak. If you get "locking" velcro, it might stay in place but then you risk the chance of the glue losing it's grip and then you're up the creek without a paddle. I suggest using screws to mount it but get good quality ones. I had two extra screws in my tool box that worked, and chances are you do too. If not, you can always go to a hardware store and drop a couple of dimes to get some that won't strip.
Overall, this is an excellent product. Every door with a deadbolt should have a Lock Jaw, because if the standard lock is so easily bypassed by lock picking and bump keys...what good are they? It's obvious that todays locks need reinforcement and the Lock Jaw is one of several answers to that unfortunate problem.
