keyspan does it again!
2007-12-11
Another great offering from keyspan. I bought one of their credit card sized ipod remotes a couple years back and now decided I wanted a vista media center controller. This thing does everything as you'd expect it to, and then works using RF so you don't have to be aiming it at the computer/tv all the time. I'm still locked in the habit of turning it toward the tv all the time...
Functional but limited
2007-11-13
This remote control is great for using with Windows Media Center/Media Player, but is very limited for use with other applications. Some applications have limited compatibility with this remote, while others have almost none. For example, trying to use this with video service Joost is frustrating and almost impossible. This would be a great product if its compatibility was extended to other video/music applications. If you just want it for Windows Media Center, though, it works just fine.
Live TV button on remote doesn't go to Live TV
2007-10-03
I bought the ER-V2 for my Vista Media Center XPS410 from Dell. The "Live TV" button on the remote does NOT cause Media Center to go to live TV on my system. It launches the Blu-Ray DVD player software instead. I could not find a way to change the mapping for the "live tv" button to the correct function. I have asked tech support at both Dell and Keyspan and they haven't been able to help yet. This is very frustrating because going to "live tv" is a very common function to use.
Great remote for Vista 32-bit
2007-09-01
First off, this remote was shipped quite rapidly. I received it only three days after placing the order.
Out of the box it has a light, but solid feel. The plastic feels tight and does not flex or make noises. It seems like it'll be able to stand up to some wear and tear.
I plugged the receiver into the 32-bit Windows Vista Home Premium box that I built, and it was instantly recognized and ready to use. Thanks to the RF receiver, the range on this is great. I have the receiver plugged in behind my computer and I can point the remote away from the computer and still have reception.
The functions of the remote seem pretty standard for a Windows Media Center Device. One feature I didn't notice before purchasing is that it has a button that can put the computer in and out of standby. Another cool thing I've discovered is that this remote has some limited functionality with iTunes. Stop, play, forward, reverse, and pause all work. The volume on the iTunes volume slider will not change by pushing the volume controls, though.
I'm very happy with this product and would definitely recommend to people looking for a quality remote.
Keyspan ER-V2 RemoteNot compatible... Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit
2007-08-31
I've had a lot of compatibility issues with Vista 64 bit but was able to resolve them with a lot of research and downloads. Keyspan claims that it is compatible with Ultimate but I have yet to believe it. There are no drivers on there website for my OS as of this writing. Evidently it's plug and play just like USB 2.0 is supposed to. Vista could not recognize it nor could I even pair the transmitter to the receiver. I have the newest drivers, BIOS and hardware flash, every current Windows Ultimate update possible. It should work but it's not the case. USB 2.0 is a standard, right? I have other USB things working on my computer like my webcam and wireless keyboard and mouse. It's just the receiver that doesn't work.
Just a note: I tried it on my roommate's Windows Vista 32 bit and it worked fine.
My setup:
Intel Core 2 Duo 6600 2.4 MHz
Gigabyte GA-G33M-DS2R/S2 MicroATX Board with 4 gigs of Patriot Extreme DDR2 800 RAM (2x2Gig)
Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit - OEM
Western Digital 7200 RPM 320 Gig Hard Drive
Silverstone Micro ATX Desktop Case
Almost perfect

The remote works better than I expected with media center. It works for media player too, once media player is open. The only quibble I have is that there is a button you can press to make the computer sleep; something weird happens when I take the computer back out of sleep mode--I have to exit sleep mode twice for some reason. Hardly a huge deal though. Otherwise perfect. I like the RF characteristic--works well throuout my appt.
Does what it said it would do

This remote worked right out of the box and though the wall like it said it was going to do. I liked that I did not have to load any software for it too. The RF remotes are really the wave of the future. I noticed on other reviews they didn't like the fact that this remote did not completely control other programs than Windows MediaCenter, I assume that would next remote on the market, if it's not already out there (one that controls all PC functions). Then again I'm really only using this remote to control MediaCenter and Windows Media Player. For the price I paid this remote is way cheaper than the Harmony remotes that are not RF. I'm using Vista 32 bit instead of the 64 bit.
Good Remote

This remote works well with my Windows Vista laptop. Flawless execution with Windows Media player, and perfectly acceptable with iTunes.
Pretty Awsome

The remote worked right away with my 32 bit vista media center. Just plugged it in and in seconds it worked for everything on media center. I shopped for a few days looking at remotes with an ir blaster. Glad didn't buy one. The reviews said you have to be less than 4 ft away. This remote works from rooms away. Over all, It's pretty awesome!!
Great buy, great remote!

This remote does exactly what they say it'll do. The usb receiver installs in seconds and the remote is ready to work in less than a minute. It has the greatest range I've seen in a remote. It works from every single space in my apartment, going through walls and furniture. go for it!
