outstanding top notch picture quality 2008-02-14
i searched for well over a month comparing lcd to plasma to find out the best quality for the picture quality and settled on SONY'S KDL-40W3000. when you plug this baby in for the first time and watch a blu-ray movie you will be blown away. i recommend trying BBC's series Planet Earth on blu-ray first. the colors are so vibrant and saturated, i thought i was looking through a glass window. the 16,000 to 1 dynamic contrast ratio really shows. it blows some plasma tv's ive seen at a much higher price away, really. don't settle for the KDL-40V2500. it doesn't compare. this has more then twice the contrast ratio, 24p true frame output and picture in picture. it does suffer from motion lag as most lcd do when it come to fast motion scenes but you don't really notice it unless the motion is horizontal and really fast. if you want to spend a few bucks more, i recommend getting the XBR4 or XBR5 series with 120 FRC. this will eliminate the horizontal motion lag. i wish i did LOL. very satified with this LCD. 5 OF 5 stars.

Great Living Room TV 2008-02-11
I wanted a TV that would not only show great pictures but look good. [Initially I looked at the toshiba rf350u series b.c the 46inch TV would fit in my cabinet. But the Cnet reviews on it were terrible, and I was able to see the green tint on everything that cnet was talking about.]

However back to this sony tv, the other models in this series v3000 and s3000 probably show the same quality pictures. But for the living room I wanted something that looked like a first class product. This sony looks good and it does not have the glossy black panel that reflects things.

The other pro's to this TV are:
-great remote
-3hdmi inputs
-auto backlight
-great colors
-can customize in multiple ways

Disadvantages to this TV:
-For standard definiton to look good you will need to sit at a distance.
-Expensive. The sales on the 3000 series are usually not for the W3000 but for the cheaper models. But if you wait and read the ads carefully you can get great deals. hh gregg had a great deal on superbowl weekend that was even better than internet deals and I grabbed it. It was too big a purchase to try internet deals anyway. No regrets.

Great purchase, imazing picture! 2008-02-08
I enjoy my TV every evening. Great picture, soft modern design.
We have this TV only couple of months and I can't complain... Well,
Sony is Sony

LCD vs Plasma 2008-01-21
We had a 32 inch Sony KDL2500, a very nice LCD as LCD's go, we wanted a 40 inch LCD and purchased the 40W3000 to replace the 32 in a media room.
This TV's purpose is multifold for use as a TV, Games Xbox/PS3, PC, and Movies in HD through both the Xbox/PS3, hence the 1080P
First I must state, that after viewing the Pats/Chargers Game in HD on 20 Jan on both my Pioneer Elite 50 Inch Plasma and this TV that anyone can say anything they want but Plasma still rules for absolute picture quality and total viewability. I think LCD has made HUGE leaps as far as picture quality goes, but the same issues remain that have always been, picture subject to viewing angle, picture wash out, sharpness/detail, dull blacks. I suppose its subjective and if you aren't A/B comparing a 50 inch Elite to the almost top of the Line LCD from Sony you may not notice. But, for me I have always noticed it with the 32 inch, and after seeing the TV at Circuit City I thought when I got it home the picture would rival my Plasma, nope did not happen and my friends over watching bouncing between the rooms made the same comments. At which point we played tweak the TV for a big chunk of the game, we did manage to clean up the picture but no matter how hard we tried the washed effect remained.
So, I kept the Box and will decide over the next few days how to deal with the TV. I have a theme in the room where the TV is and love the Silver and Dark Grey frame, everyone else is black and did not want to spend the difference on the XBR with the silver bezel and almost identical specs. So, if as long as you do not compare this TV to a top of the line Plasma, Pioneer/Panasonic and the like you will probally be very pleased, but, do not beleive anyone who says LCD rules, if they do they DO NOT know what they are talking about.
I would rate this TV a 3.5, but there is no increments for half points. So I'll stick by the 4.0 as there are features and set up options that are excellent and the TV's remote is a substantial improvement over the KDL2500's version.
Buy it if you can get it for well under 2K, above that buy a XBR.

Good buy for LCD HDTV 2007-12-20
Works great out of box. Fine tune was quick and easy. So far hasn't been disappointed by Sony.

Solid TV- Don't Hesitate 2008-05-21
Instead of droning on and on about how similar the features are to the XBR (minus the motion flow. which I probably wouldn't even notice) let me just get to the bottom line. Amazon was hands down, THE VERY BEST deal I found anywhere. Not only was the TV $300-$400 cheaper than it was anywhere else at a local retailer like Best Buy or Circuit City, but here's the best part.... I paid NO TAX (I live in Texas, amazon is based in WA,its a beautiful thing) and got free shipping. So we're talking approximately $500-$600 savings by using amazon once you figure in tax and shipping on top of that list price savings.

Delivery was another pleasant surprise. My estimated delivery date was about a week and a half out, however I got a call three days after my order from Ceva saying that my tv was already in town and could they bring it tomorrow...um, yes please! Amazon contracts Ceva, a private shipping company that specializes in delivery of flat screen tv's. They showed up in a very clean small speciality van, which was great since it meant my tv wasn't bouncing around some big UPS or Fed Ex truck and being tossed around. The guys took the TV upstairs to my second floor apartment, took it out of the box, plugged it in and showed me the remote basics. They were very professional. I even tested my new upconvert dvd player with a movie I had waiting just to make sure it all worked. After all of that, then I signed off and they were on their way/ Try getting service like that from ANYWHERE else. Seriously, A + service all the way, highly recommended!

poor viewing angle 2008-04-28
I bought this tv about 3 days ago, and it is going back. The picture from 85 to 95 degrees is terrific, blacks levels are great. But then when I moved out side of this ideal viewing angle, the contrast and color saturation dropped swiftly and considerably. Unless you want to subject your friends and family who are not in the 'pole position' viewing spot to watch a washed-out, sub-par picture, you will not buy this tv. If it will be only you watching the tv, from dead-on center, then get it.

Great Sony quality, once again 2008-04-15
I have been reluctant to convert to an HDTV due to the usual considerations--waiting for better technology at a lower price each year. Since it seemed like the HDTV market had reached something of a plateau, it was time to trade in my near-perfect circa 2000 Sony Trinitron 32" for the latest 40" Bravia. No disappointment, in fact, I can't take my eyes off the new KDL-40W3000. Excellent contrast, bright sharp picture, easy to use controls. "it's a Sony". Solid, high quality electonics. As I expected, the SD picture for non-HDTV stations is a disappointment (compared to my old Trinitron), but I can overlook that.

I had paid for an expedited delivery to match the timing of my satellite HD installation, but instead was told that the supplier (Vann's) couldn't expedite a large electronic item like a TV. The delivery took 5 days, and I missed the installer, but the good folks at Vann's gave me a refund of the extra payment.

I recommend this unit to all serious HDTV aficionados in the 40" market.

Awesome 2008-04-12
I did extensive research before pulling the trigger on this model. I ended up choosing between Samsung and Sony. I went with the Sony bc of glare issues that supposedly accompany Samsung models. That was in issue for me bc the set will be in a bright room with big bay windows. I'm glad to report that I do not have any glare problems with my Bravia.

Once, I decided to go with Sony, I was struggling to decide if I could spend the extra money for the XBR. The auto motion feature sounded compelling to me because I watch a lot of sports. However, I just couldn't justify spending that much extra money. I'm glad I didn't. I've had my w3000 for 3 weeks now. I've watched the NCAAs, Hockey, and baseball. All of the action looks amazing. I've seen absolutely no ghosting or triple action effect that I've heard about.

Bottom line, it is hard for me to imagine a better picture. This set is a no brainer. And the Amazon price is $200-300 cheaper than best buy.

Outstanding 2008-02-24
All I can say, IS; There is NO better 'color/picture' quality for ANY!{period!},ANY!, HDTV than Sony!.That is a fact.
There are 4 different picture frames you can set to fit your veiwing source ; DVD, "WideZoom','Normal','Zoom', and 'Standard', depending on the DVD /VHS/WHATEVER!,your watching... Connection is an ease, and I DO recommend S VIDEO cable, or heavier cable..
You will LOVE this set!; Picture Quality above all!, but also ease of set-up, built in surround, and last note. It is rated #2 BEST ,{out of 36 monitors tested! for 40 inch sets} in 'Consumer Reports'. {I'm sure that will make some 'nastys' grumble! :}
Just buy it.!!!!!!!!! God Bless
