OUTSTANDING!!!!

LOVE THIS SPEAKER!!!!! I've owned different wireless speakers for years and they finally needed replacing. I tried several different sets but was not pleased until I tried the Acoustic Research AW822. It sounds great with its 5" woofer, it has excellent range. Also very pleased with the styling as it blends into the landscape. Buy some rechargeable c cell batteries (they charge while installed by just plugging the speaker into ac power) and eliminate the cord altogether! (Note: AW822 is not sold as a set so you'll need to buy two for stereo)
Good for the money

The sound quality was very good, even with only one speaker. There is a little static every once in a while when you have it near the outer edge of its range. I would recommend this product if you're looking for a portable speaker with multiple sources.
Amazing for the price

I purchased these speakers for my husband's birthday based on the reviews I read here. Not difficult at all to set up and the sound is quite good. The receiver is not close to the speaker location, but there have been no problems with either cable or CD reception. A little more hassle to adjust sound, turn off, etc. than indoor sound system, but that is all run by remote. Recommended, especially for such a reasonable price.
Great speakers for outdoor, wireless and great sound!

I have used two as stereo speakers (one right and one left) on my deck several times this summer. They have great sound quality and range for such a reasonable price. I have also purchased C size NiMH Rechargeable batteries with 5000 mAh. They have played for three hours before I shut them off without recharge. Amazing! You plug the AC adapted in and they recharge automatically. The instructions don't address recharge time so I charged for 8 hours. I am very pleased.
Just OK

I needed a wireless speaker to put near my 89 year old mother's bedside in a nursing home. No wires allowed. This device was very easy to hookup to her Toshiba HDTV.
The quality of construction and the packaging is excellent.
Unfortunately, the quality of the sound is poor with the frequency response very restricted - just doesn't sound "natural". Out of fairness, this could be the audio coming out of the Toshiba headphone jack - I'll have to bring my headphones to check that out. As of now, I certainly wouldn't recommend this speaker for connection to a home theater or high quality sound system.

AR AW822
2008-08-12
The AR AW822 has a great sound that is not over powering, The coverage is about 20' by 20' and has a excellent range of deep base and tone. The transmission range is less than 125' feet before static is introduced, You can get further with nothing in the line of site.
The best feature is the auto sound leveling. This means no rushing back to the audio source to turn it up or down.
If you match this with another speaker both, set to mono, you get a very nice background sound that during a party or just relaxing on the deck is soothing and enjoyable. And yes even rock and hip/hop music sound great when turned up!
I would go as far as to say this is amusement park quality.
Great speaker - easy to use

I bought this speaker for my mother. She is technically challenged but she hooked it up with no problems and she absolutely loves it. She has gone on and on about how great it is - I am going to buy a pair for myself.
OK but some issues

The speaker sounds nice when it works, but just some scattered thoughts:
I ordered this speaker to have music on my deck. The original plan was to run music (ipod) from my living room receiver to the deck - which is 50 feet and one wall away. I wanted the same music in the living room as on the deck. The signal wasn't near powerful enough, even trying several different outputs - (and even after adjusting the ipod volume, etc, no luck) - to the point where music just wouldn't play. I do have an older home with plaster walls, so perhaps this was the problem. I wasn't expecting the advertised 250 feet, I understand that it would take a perfect scenario, but realistacally, if walls are involved, expect 20-30 feet. In order to use the speaker, I have to place the transmitter and ipod in my kitchen, which is just inside from the deck. The speaker does sound good, and the outdoor volume is adaquate. I wasn't expecting the wireless sound to be so good. There is ocasional static when someone crosses the line of the signal, or when the sliding door opens/closes. More gripes - once an album is done on the ipod, or any other source, the speaker goes to loud static - and scares everyone. It would be nice if there was an auto mute - the cure of course is to just use a very long play list. Also, there is no sound leveling. Many song files are different, so volumes can change per song. I know this is more of my problem (poor source) and it's not fair to complain of these things since they aren't advertised features, but just be aware of them. The best use for this would be if you had a huge deck, and you actually had the transmitter outside, and two of these speakers on the back corners or spread out on the deck. For $70 it's not bad. I wanted a stationary solution, but now I have to grab my ipod+ charger and move it to the kitchen to have sound outside. Just keep in mind the issues above and that the transmitter needs to be close for clear, static free sound.
