Rare earth magnets are the strongest type of permanent magnet currently made. They are amazingly powerful for their size and have innumerable uses. These disc magnets are 0.375 inch (9.5mm) diameter and 0.250 inch (6.4mm) thick. They are magnetized through the thickness. They are composed of grade 40 neodymium iron boron magnetic material and are plated in nickel-copper-nickel for a shiny corrosion resistant finish. Their individual pull force is approximately 8 lbs. Maximum working temperature is 176 F (80 C).

Good for now

I am using this to make a small scaled test generator for a wind turbine. I used 28 gage wire in tiny loops of 100 coils about 1.5" across. I used a CD and hot glued 12 of these in 2 phases of 6 coils each. I placed 12 magnets with alterning polarity around a second CD. I added a shaft and placed the magnets about 1mm from the coils. I used a 2.8v dual LED that generates a green/red light for +/-. Since this is a generator it will generate A/C power. I did not have extra diodes to tie the two phases together so I have a seperate LED for each phase. Spinning by hand I can get both to light , but using a drill they get pretty bright. I figure when I get the two poles tied together I will have about 6v at probably .5A. This is no where need, so I ordered much bigger magnets... 1"x3/8" with a 34 pound pull (over 4x larger than these) and will likely double the number and size of the coils. I am hoping for 24v at maybe 5-10 amps in a good wind. To keep from overheating the coils I will likely make it 4-6 phases.

Super strong

I can put one disc on my palm and the other on the back of my hand and they will attract as long as I don't jerk my hand around. With a bit more thickness and pull force, they will probably hold strong.

This is one of the two types of super-strong magnets used by the MythBusters. The other is samarium cobalt, better for high heat applications.
