Fell apart after 1st cassette of paper & ink used
2008-02-06
Picture quality was very good but after refilling the paper tray the first time the tray would not insert...The problem was loose pieces of the mechanism in the machine...I will not buy another Cannon printing devce as this is not the first time this has happen to me over the years...POOR QUALITY PRODUCT!!!
Good printer for 4x6 prints
2008-02-05
My wife got this printer free with a new camera she got for me. I already have an Epson that was OK. Setting up this printer was easy. You can print from the computer or directly from the camera. The printer has a retractable cord that plugs into the camera. The prints looked OK to me. The paper and and ink come packaged together. The printer is small enough to bring to a party and share. If you need a printer for only 4x6 prints, this does the job.
Canon SELPHY CP740

I received this photo printer from my son for Christmas. It is easy to use. You can print without the computer. The color is rich, just a little bit dark. The software that came with is so easy to use. You can enhance before printing, the color came out perfect just as I wanted. Best of all, the color ink cassette does not dry out, easy to replace. Highly recommended.
Great little printer

I received this printer for Christmas and was pleasantly surprised. The photo printers I remember from a few years ago were clunky, the dye smeared and the picture quality was poor.
Boy was I pleasantly surprised! I love this little printer for printing snapshots - and I do NOT find the pictures too dark. It's very convenient to have a small printer that I can print a small snapshot or two on that isn't any bigger than a small book.
So So Photo Quality

I received one of these free recently when I bought a new Apple Macbook.
The printer unit is compact, however the paper tray is awkward and sticks way out from the printer. The tray seems flimsy and an after thought in their design. The power supply is one of those big, black, ugly bricks that is nearly as large as the printer unit itself. It looks horrible. If only all power supplies could be small and attractive like the ones Apple makes !
The print quality is only so so with photos appearing too dark with too much red. They are also not too sharp. The cost and availability of consumables is reasonable and changing the printer film is a breeze. The LCD screen is pretty useless, too small, not adjustable ( just flat ), poor resolution.
All in all I would look elsewhere for a small compact photo printer. Not recommended due to poor print quality, ugly power brick, worthless LCD display, and awkward paper tray.
Canon goes cheap
2008-06-16
Just got the printer from Amazon to discover Canon was too cheap to supply a USB cable to hook this beast to my computer. Let's figure USB cables add about 15 cents to the cost of the printer (my vendor charges me a buck, and I'm not a multinational company), and Canon can't even supply this basic necessity. It tells you everything else you need to know about this printer with the just decent image quality, large footprint and awful customer service.
Steer clear. Go Epson or Kodak if you're looking for this type of printer.
Great Printer, Fun to Use
2008-06-12
I can't lie...I bought this printer simply because a friend of mine has it and I've seen firsthand how much better the images look compared to those I print on my inkjet. Hands down, the dye-sublimination thermal prints are 10x better. Ever notice how the color black looks...almost like a shadow or crayon marks on inkjet prints when you hold them at a certain angle in the light? (Especially on lower gloss paper?) Well, you don't get that with dye-sublimination. That was one of the bigger selling points for me. And sure, you can take pics with your digital, then upload them to Costco or Snapfish and have them printed cheaper than the ink and paper will cost you for this printer. I prefer plugging my camera directly into the Selphy and using Pictbridge and getting my pictures instantly. (What a breeze to use the Selphy!) Using Pictbridge also alleviates the issue others complained about when using the viewer on the Selphy. I will admit the Selphy's viewer is small, but not so bad that it's not worth buying. If you use Pictbridge, you can use your cameras viewer to see the pics before printing them. Just make sure your camera is Pictbridge compatible. For the record, I use a Fuji Finepix S1000fd. My Fuji, combined with the Selphy, is a pretty nifty package. I highly recommend this printer if you want to print your own pictures and you want real images. This little powerhouse is well worth its price and it makes taking and printing pictures fun!
A great little machine

It is hard to imagine to get anything better for the price. The printing quality is excellent and it is very user friendly and simple to operate.
Excellent Product

Excellent printer, photo quality 4x6 prints. Does not require a computer. Accepts most memory cards, connects directly to Canon cameras. Highly recommended.
I am very disappointed
2008-04-28
The picture quality was good but each cassete would print a few pictures (no more than 6 when it should have printed 36) and then it refused to print and the cartridge shredded with pink film coming out and tearing. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY on this worthless piece of junk. It happened with 2 seperate cassetes. I will NEVER buy a Canon product again.
