Editorial Review
ATREYU’s first single, BECOMING THE BULL, is featured in the forthcoming EA Sports video game, Madden ’08. The previous Madden video game sold over 5 million units. ATREYU is appearing in the third slot before Korn and Evanescence on the 2007 Family Values tour. The tour kicks off on July 20 and runs through September 2. ATREYU is well-established among the most popular alternative tours of the summer: They headlined the second stage of 2006 Ozzfest and were a headliner on the 2005 Warped Tour.

What do you mean BECAME emo? 2008-08-01
Newsflash! Atreyu have always been the prissy c*** they are now. I'm 13, and have to listen to it when my insolent classmates blast it out their new i-pod that mommy and daddy bought them after the wretched conformists scream and whine. If you actually think, and have an identidy, you won't buy this ear torture. Whether these poseurs sing and scream, or just sing it's equally as bad. You want REAl metal? Pick up E.T.T.S., Agoraphobic Nosebleed, or Cattle Decapitation.

This band needs an "Identity" Zero Stars!!!! 2008-07-08
Atreyu is a piss poor excuse for a metal band, even a hard rock band at that. After listening to this horrid album, I felt like I was whipped into a world of bad hair metal, pop-esk Punk, Scemo Emo, and wanna be Hardcore, because this seems to be the format that Atreyu seems to follow with their music. There is no struture here at all. It is like the band is trying to follow with some sort of Indentiy, but cant seem to find themselves, which is a good thing, because they have no musical talent at all. This simplistic garbage could be played by anyone who has has a few years of basic music training. Even though, just because it is simple, doesnt mean I should kill it. There are plenty of bands that I listen that use simple chords and whatnot, but the bands themselves are so "tight" that they make the best of their effort. Hopefully this trash will die soon, as I dont get what the heck bands like Atreyu and trying to prove, except to sell records to angry 12 year olds.

Great album 2008-06-28
Not sure what more you'd want from this totally Kick A album. This album is the perfect blend of great guitar licks, hard core rock and role and melodies that your ear can tune into. Sometimes this genre can tend to be all shouting and no singing in my opinion. There are 5 top songs on this album and all the rest are good tier 2 songs. No dogs on this album. Highly recommend it.

Evolution is a GOOD thing... 2008-06-12
Funny reading some of these 1 or 2 star bash reviews whining about how Atreyu has "completely changed" everything about themselves. If you listen to their body of work since inception, it is obvious they were headed this direction. In my opinion, they have gotten better as musicians and songwriters with every album and are only NOW fully hitting their collective stride. I suspect most of the teenagers who have trashed this effort have never picked up an intrument in their lives.....

not what I was expecting 2008-04-18
I am in no way against change, maturity, or broadening your audience, but I am still disappointed with this release. Atreyu had a few albums under their belt and had developed a nice sized fan base with their old material. Now comes Lead Sails Paper Anchor. Definately a sound unlike any heard on the previous releases. There is no screaming on the album whatsoever. This is not to say that I need screaming in a band for me to like it, but I already knew Atreyu as a screaming band. I liked his voice when he screamed. It's what drew my attention the first time I heard them. I'm not trying to say that Atreyu can't broaden their sound, but the change was distinct and abrupt. The thing that saddens me is that now there is no one who sounds like Atreyu. Lead Sails Paper Anchor sounds like The Used.( In fact when I heard one of the songs on the radio I thought it WAS The Used.) Atreyu was the only band I could go to to hear that certain kind of sound. Their new sound sounds like a hundred other bands out there. If you like the old sound of Atreyu stick with the older albums. If you like the newer sound than try Lies For Liars by The Used. Ultimately, this album takes them out of the category they used to be in and puts them at the middle of the pack of a brand new category. It's a shame.

anyone who gives this one or two stars is a moron and a f a g g o t 2008-04-09

Much better then People give credit 2008-03-21
I was not a fan of Atreyu so I don't know there older music but there are some great songs on this CD I like there more POP Metal stuff then there hard stuff but this is at least a 4 star CD

I liked it.... 2008-03-19
When I was younger this kinda music scared the crap out of me...Trying to fit in in high school this just wasn't the music you'd listen to....But now to be honest I love it!! I don't know much of Atreyu and if they've SOLD OUT but I can tell you this much....If this album to so many is BAD or not their best work then I can't wait to back track to there earlier stuff and see how much of a transition they have made. I can't say weather or not the fame or money has gotten to them and they've forgotten about the music but I can say this...Atreyu has awesome vocals by Alex and Brandon (not too many can scream like that and follow with a perfect note), great lyrics and AWESOME TALENT!! I just wish I would of been one of those kids in high school that did what she wanted to and not be the FOLLOWER that I was...I recommend this CD to anyone. I can't wait to go back in time and see what they were like before they (as so many say) SOLD OUT!!! Atreyu to me is Fantastic...I would purchase this cd over and over without a doubt.

Garbage 2008-03-17
This is garbage. Been going this way since their second album, so not a big surprise. Weak weak lyrics, weak vocals. Hard to believe this band is the same as Suicide Notes and Butterfly Kisses. Great for the 13-14 teenage girl demo.

One fantastic album! 2008-02-23
This album is incredible! A true discovery and easily the album of the year so far. Predictably the mall rats who wouldn't recognize talent or a melody if it bit 'em in the butt are crying in their koolaid that the group has sold out. Probably nothing more trite and irrelevant than some Blabbermouth juvenile airhead whining about not enough cookie monster screaming.

I've been into the music scene for many years, a former FM chief announcer and I'm here to tell you Lead Sails is a revelation. Virtually every cut is a keeper, my favorite being When Two Are One.

I saw Atreyu 2 years ago on the second stage at Ozzfest and there was little to distinguish them from the oodles of other cookie monster screamers that came on before and after them. I was, in fact, beginning to suspect that it was all the same band.

But this is something else. A progression of light years in maturation and expression. Its absolutely gorgeous and those who fault it are truly completely clueless about talent. Melodic, excellent writing, musicianship and extremely powerful. Its a great album to work out to or just to immerse yourself in. I can't recommend it highly enough.
