Doesn't Cut It
2008-06-18
I've owned Norelco shavers for decades. It's the only brand of electric shaver I've ever had. But this one is making me reconsider and switching. It's a very attractive looking razor. But I buy based upon shaving effectiveness and this one fails in a couple of areas.
If you're like me, and occasionally skip some days, your face is going to look as though you were hung over when you shaved, with clumps all over the place. Anything longer than tough stubble is not going to be cut by this razor. It just can't cut hairs. I have to use the so-called trimmer to get those off, going up and down, back and forth nipping off hairs so that I can then shave the remaining stubble off. And that's about the only thing the trimmer is good for. It's much too small to properly trim your side burns. Lastly, if you use this razor, be sure to stand over the sink when you shave. That's because not all the stubble will go into the razor. You'll find some in the sink, or wherever you're standing, before you ever go to clean the razor.
Exceptional Beauty and a Great Shave!
2008-01-08
This razor is a work of art -- exceptional styling and quality of fit and finish as far as I am concerned. In addition, it shaves quickly and closely with minimal irritation. I also own a new generation CoolSkin 8040X which I use exclusively in the shower with Nivea for Men shaving gel, and it provides an exceptionally close shave with no irritation for my skin/beard type. I received the Arcitec 1050X Christmas Eve, and have used it both "dry" (with Williams Lectric Pre-electric shave lotion) and "wet" over the sink with lotion and a few drops of water patted on my face, and it shaves very well either way. I would give the slight edge to the 8040X in terms of closeness and comfort, but I love both, and if you prefer shaving dry, the Arcitec 1050X is an excellent choice. And did I mention that it is a work of art? Beautiful and functional!
Superior shave ... Finest Norelco yet!
2007-11-15
Norelco has done it again with the introduction of a new type of shaving experience which simply put is the very best yet. I have used Norelco electric razors for at least 15 years, and of all the models I have owned the Arcitec Razor stands head and shoulders above the others for comfort, ease of use, ease of cleanup (you wash it out under the hot water tap) and closeness. I have always had to resort to using shaving cream and a blade to get those pesky neck hairs that other Norelcos could not cut. This model cuts them all in comfort, and without pulling or tugging on your face. I can't wait to start my day with this shaver. You might be tempted to buy something a little less expensive but in the case of the Arcitec you get what you pay for, and that is superb shaving every single time. Buy one and enjoy it tomorrow morning. You will not regret it.
Charger design sloppiness -- Norelco shaver Arcitec 1050X
2007-10-30
As of October 29, 2007, the instructions specifically say that you must unplug the Norelco Arcitec 1050X shaver from the charger once it's fully charged. If you don't you will hurt the battery. I guess you're supposed to baby-sit it every few hours.
This is an inexcusable design error and the principal reason I am returning this product for a full refund.
If Norelco had said on the box, "You have to watch the battery icon till it stops blinking and then you have to unplug the shaver," I wouldn't have wasted my time buying it. Would you?
