john's rosetta stone 2008-04-07
so far so good. i am really liking the product. i only wish i had more time to spend on it.

beware of 1GHZ speed requirement 2008-03-27
Although this requirement is not listed on the box, your computer needs to have at least 1 GHZ speed in order for the oral components to work properly. Otherwise, you will have major glitzes in these lessons and will finally, in frustration, skip them altogether. And, since I did not check this out until after the 30-day period with Amazon, I contacted Rosetta Stone directly to ask for a refund as they are the ones who left this critical requirement off the front of the box. Rosetta Stone refused to give me a refund, but simply suggested that I purchase a newer computer.

Vista/Rosetta Stone 2008-03-23
I agree completely with Andrew Mullen. If you're using Windows Vista DO NOT buy Rosetta Stone.
Larry Flowers explained in a previous post a very lengthy way to correct the errors.
1. If you're paying over $300.00 for a program it should install seamlessly since Rosetta Stone claims it's Vista compatible.
2. I installed all the updates as Larry explained and contacted Rosetta Stone Tech support over six times. They even sent me TWO new CD'S.The program would still not install. I wonder when Rosetta Stone will wise up and update their program. I'm certain all new computers will come pre-installed with Vista.

When will they have 64 bit compatibility? 2008-03-16
For being one of the largest - if not the largest - language learning software company, Rosetta Stone should make a XP 64bit version. I have not ran into software compatibility problems in quite a while (non-language software), as most programs offer a 64 bit compatible version. I have read so many good reviews that I went ahead and installed the program on my room mates computer. I have not used any other programs to compare this too. Only time will tell how well it works.

Rosetta Stone - Good Program 2008-03-12
We purchased the Rosetta Stone to become more proficient in Spanish -- it's a good product, there's just one problem, you must be at your computer to use the program. I wish I could sync to Ipod, to use while working out or for my husband, he has a 30-40 minute commute and would like to use it in the car. But since the program is interactive, the computer really is needed. Oh well, otherwise, it's a good tool. A.Ramirez

Learning Spanish the easy way. 2008-07-05
I have never tried any other way of learning spanish, so I was reluctant on buying this product. I am running Windows Vista Home Premium so when I read the reveiws about it not working with Vista I was not going to buy it, but I decided to, there were no problems what so ever with installing it or running it. With only knowing little ammounts of spanish I have already (at this time have only had it for 3 days) learned enough spanish to start a conversation. The way it is taught is great, fun and very interactive. There were no things that i found (so far) that were bad, accept that i does not tell you what some words are. (so i recomend getting a pocket translator or something) This is a great product, if you are trying to learn another language this is the way to go.

Slow and Steady 2008-06-05
I have tried almost every single product on the market to help me learn a second language and nothing really worked. Rosetta Stone V3 is so far the best product I have tried. I am not speaking fluent Spanish yet and if you're in a huge rush this might not be for you. However, I am making slow and steady progress in the right direction and enjoying the process.
I love the way the program is repetitive and has you learning in several different ways. It will say the word and you have to match up the picture. You hear the word and then must find the correct picture. You are also required to say words and it evaluates and can really assist you in working towards saying the word correctly. At times, you are also required to choose from a list of two or three words to finish a picture.
A major complaint that many people have had is that the program does not tell you what a word means, but just shows you a picture. This is true, and makes learning tough at times; but I do believe it may be a wise and effective method. Most languages do not translate word for word. This does requires you to think a little harder, but I believe that only enhances your learning. Despite the fact that I have 3 or 4 Spanish translation books lying around, I have never felt it necessary to look up any words. That alone speaks volumes.
I find the sessions enjoyable, especially compared to all the CD's and books I own. You get a score, can repeat lessons and there is loads of review and feedback that makes me stick with the program longer then other methods I try. No matter any perceived faults, my desire to continue working on my language skills is the most deciding factor in my approval of Rosetta Stone V3.

A great way for the whole family to learn a new language 2008-05-11
My oldest daughter is taking Spanish (latin American) in school and was having a tough time with the way the teacher presents the material. I initially bought Rosetta Stone for her but now the whole family is getting into it. The kids treat it like a game; who can get the best scores, and my wife and I can now actually understand what they say when they practice. I highly recommend this product for the whole family.

A quick way to learn 2008-05-02
I was amazed at how quickly I picked the language up, the thing is it doesnt tell you what you are saying it just shows you. That's why I gave it 4 stars.

Very effective product 2008-04-25
Excellent product and very effective. My first reaction was it was too redundant and the vocabulary was far too limited. Then I realized this was intentional and part of the program. They use a limited vocabulary (nouns) to walk you through reading, writing, and speaking different contexts and to learn how to conjugate the verbs. The adding vocabulary becomes quite easy. It is absolutely full immersion so that you are thinking and responding in Spanish without translating back and forth. I learned twice as much in half the time than I have with any other system I've used.
