Worry-free installation
2008-07-20
I switched from Norton to McAfee three years ago and I've been happy with my decision ever since. The latest version of McAfee Internet Security Suite with Site Advisor installed quickly and easily.
When surfing the web it lets you know which sites are safe and which are suspicious. If it hasn't inspected the site it also lets you know that so that you can decide whether or not to enter it. I trust this product completely, and highly recommend it.
So SLOW!

My computer was running fine and my husband installed McAfee. I can't even use my computer now. I might as well be back on AOL dial up and 266 with 4 mb of memory. It found some virus's and spyware but my computer was running fine with those on there. It wasn't until McAfee that my computer became unusable.
Security Suite

It is hard to pick a computer security suite. You have to have a enough memory and hd space so the security suite does not bog the system to a crawl. You have to get one that does not stop existing programs from working correctly and stop the crud that is fighting to get in every day. CR magazine rated it high and this one works on my Dell E520 great.
MADE TWO OF MY NOTEBOOKS CRAWL...

I originally installed McAfee on my brand new Vista notebook. It installed easily, consistently updated, and all ran smoothly, although the computer seemed to run rather slow. I attributed that to a sluggish DSL connection and decided to live with it. Then, a few days ago, I installed McAfee on my backup notebook which runs Windows XP. As soon as the Security Suite installation was finished, my CPU jumped to 100% and stayed there - effectively freezing my notebook. I quickly uninstalled it, and everything ran fine! Definite case of cause and effect. I then uninstalled McAfee from my new Vista PC and downloaded a free trial version of a different security package. My sluggish PC and DSL connection both started to work much faster than it had been when McAfee was installed. Also, as others have mentioned, signing in to McAfee is near impossible - it consistently rejects passwords, e-mail addresses, etc. The only good thing I can say for the product is the uninstall was problem-free.
Don't try to reinstall after a reformat
2008-06-26
For various reasons I have had to reformat my desktop and laptop machines, both having McAfee Security Suite. Each time I have had to reformat and then reinstall McAfee I have had to do a different procedure. One time I was told by the online chat representative that the reason was because I have Dell computers. The first time I reinstalled McAfee I was able to get it directly from their download site. Since then, after two reinstalls, it's been a different procedure that had to be copied from online chat rather than from the download site which told me that my subscription was out of date. Each new procedure is more complicated and involved than the last and this last one involved me downloading extra files before McAfee would load. It's getting to the point where it may not be worth the trouble.
I Like it has it all in one product

I like for the simple fact you get a email spam protector, firewall, anti virus etc all in one For the price tag its a bargain. I have a older dell and It hasn't slowed me down one bit and that included I have all the the sims 2 games installed and you would of think if anyone's computer it would of slowed down it would of mine. I am running xp and no problems. It works great too with outlook express for spam , getting rid of those junk emails like from survey companies etc. The antivirus portion is good as IT always has been from this company. Its a good product and good to use for one whole year before having to renew the subscription. I intend to keep this kind of product around for a long time. I like Mcafee and use them frequently or AVG free but I rather use Mcafee they are more known and better protection over all from them. Thats all i wanna say bout this product. Other then its one of the best security suites going .
A WORTHY PRODUCT NAME

Quite a few others may do just as we do - if a company sells products at a reasonable price that perform well and please us, we tend to go back to that brand name again and again. That has been our history with McAfee. We've been happy with their products in the past, and so tried this one with no hesitancy.
The convenience of it protecting three computers is a plus for us, and their online help has been excellent - especially for this computer challenged person during the installation.
It seems that everyday we read or hear more and more horror stories about computers being hacked or users spied upon. Protection is of the utmost importance to us and we feel that this Security Suite does offer that.
What we do not care for is the automatic renewal - would much prefer that it be our choice not the company's. However, having said that we have found that McAfee provides terrific protection, and we'd much rather be safe than sorry.
Love It!

I have been very pleased with this product. It was very easy to install and set up. I have not noticed any performance issues and appear to be virus free. It's nice to have the 3 user licenses as well. I was a somewhat unsatisfied Norton user (Internet Security was not user friendly and I usually had to turn off the firewall to get internet access). Great price, great product. I would buy again. I completely recommend this item.
It even works at the bottom of the system level requirements

I first used McAfee Virus Scan Plus 2008-3 User 6 in 1 product and wrote a review on it. I was totally impressed using it on my Windows XP machines. This McAfee Internet Security Suite 10 in 1, states that it works on a Pentium 300, so I decided to use it on my AMD K6-2 500 with 512 megs of ram running Windows 2000 Pro SP4. I removed the free edition AVG antivirus, as well as Zone Alarms free firewall first. I have never met an anti-virus that will work with another antivirus already installed. With my XP machines it only increased boot up time by 30 seconds, but on the older AMD-K6-2 500 it added 2 minutes. (1 minute 20 seconds without any antivirus, 3 minutes 20 seconds with) So the limited processing power was affected in boot up time. On my XP machine that has a barebones list of programs, it boots in only 42 seconds +30.
When installing be sure and take the option of downloading the latest version from the net and install it; total size 57 Megs.
The security suite includes> Security center, Virus scan, Personal firewall, Privacy service, Anti-spam, Data backup, Easy Network, Site Advisor, and OEM support.
With my XP machines the program works seamlessly, and you wouldn't even know there is an update, or scan going on in the background. With the AMD K6-2 it takes a toll on limited resources and slows the machine down. Does it slow it to a crawl, no, but it does add a second or two to changing screens. Sorry for mentioning the obvious but I thought those with an older machine would be interested in knowing whether it would be effective for them.
I am keeping the McAfee installed because I prefer the results to the AVG free edition antivirus, and Zone Alarms firewall. ZA running their older version 6.5 would work in W2000, but their nagging upload screen, if clicked on, downloads a 7+ version that brought about a blue screen until I booted in safe mode and removed it. AVG updates on every boot, and totally dominates the machine until it is done, whereas McAfee allows you to immediately start to work while it is updating. So pulling it all together under the McAfee umbrella is a nice way to go. I gave it 4 stars because it does slow the machine down a little, but that is to be expected from a machine with such limited capacity.
Could have been better.

Got this from Amazon Vine and decided to install it on my laptop which runs with Windows Vista. My computer was running fine before I installed it now it's going really slow. I'm not entirely sure if it's the software but it did run fine before it was installed. It does seem however to protect rather well. I had AVG installed before and to me they're both comparable when it comes to protecting your computer. Updates are only provided daily so if you're looking for something with a bit more then this is not for you. To uninstall you'll need to go to your computer's unistall programs in your control panel to take it off your computer. For $50 it's not a bad buy but I think it could have been better.
