It starts a bit slow and Dio has to warm up, but when he does, whatch out. Toni and Geezer are spot on.
This DVD rocks

I saw this line up of Black Sabbath in 1980 or '81 and had the opportunity to see Heaven and Hell in the same venue almost 30 yrs later but didn't. After reading reviews of the concert and seeing this DVD, which I just bought, I really regret missing the live show.
In the two days since buying the DVD I've watched it in its entirety twice and have dipped into it to see specific songs a number of times. For me, this DVD really cooks. The picture clarity is absolutely incredible as is the sound quality. The performances of the band members are powerful, passionate and energetic without being overly dramatic. Tony and Geezer, in particular, put out awesome performances which were also displays of extremely professional musicianship and stage presence.
In some reviews, people have commented on too many camera angle changes etc but I personally found that there was a good balance. As a 49 yr old just starting electric guitar lessons I actually enjoyed and appreciated the close-ups of Tony's fretwork but at the same time I don't think any of the band members were unfairly neglected by the cameras.
My only complaint (and I'm not reflecting it in the rating) is that I found Dio occasionally approaching "Spinal Tap-ness" but hey, when I saw them 30 yrs ago I thought that stuff was cool. Otherwise, Dio did put on a really good show and seemed to have a very good rapport with the audience.
Even if you're not a big Sabbath fan, if you like hard, driving, intricate lead and bass guitar playing and, with the odd exception (my "Spinal Tap" comment), a generally no-nonsense and flawless performance, I highly recommend this DVD.
Wow! I was a little unsure, for no good reason Obviously!

Absolutley smoking video! Why cant all bands do this after this long? Oh thats right their all Posers! Ozzy included! Masters of metal is the correct term for this band " Black Sabbath" Forget sharon and ozzy, this is the band that wants to And CAN play metal!!!

When I heard about Heaven and Hell putting out a dvd,my first thought was "I hope they don't embarass themselves like so many other bands who regroup after 10-20 years apart,it never sounds as good as the first time around".As unbelievable as it may sound,Heaven and Hell are as good or better on this dvd than when they played the same stuff as Sabbath. Ronnie James Dio's vocals are fantastic and the rest of the band seem to realize this and give excellent performances themselves. This is no"nostalgia act".This band and this concert is as good as anything out there from newer groups.

It simply doesn't get any better than this;incredible SONGCRAFT played with precision and feeling, and sung by the best metal vocalist EVER. And the moronic fans in Neu Yawk are at least entertaining (think HEAVY METAL PARKING LOT, only dumber). The band don't actually put on a show per se, so I recommend you buy the CD set and listen to the sound of rock perfection!!!!
A rose by any other name rocks just as hard...

Great DVD. Man, we're all getting old, aren't we!?! It was really cool to see the Great Ones together again after 2 major falling outs over the years. Like I said about the Heaven & Hell CD, the new stuff falls a little short, but the old classics were great to hear again. I couldn't understand why they chose to open with 'After All', but before you know it, they're burnin' up the stage with old faves like 'Mob Rules', and 'Voodoo'. And of course they have to close with 'Heaven& Hell' and the timeless anthem 'Neon F***ing Knights'! Overall, great stuff, and a great reminder to us old school metalers. And I don't care what the package says--- It's BLACK SABBATH!!!
Regardless of what money-hungry Sharon Osbourne says.
Just Awesome!

I can not recommend this DVD enough. I seen Heaven and Hell/Black Sabbath in Cincinnati, OH last year, and I was so glad to get this DVD (although it is in NY) as a commerative of that concert. Dio is just awesome, his voice is as powerful today as 20 years ago. Tony Iommi is the best guitar player of all time, period, and he proves it once more. Geezer is all energy and concentration and Vinnie Appice is powerful on the drums! Of course, I think Black Sabbath, both with Ozzy and with Dio, is the best group of all time! Now stop reading these reviews and buy this DVD!
my 2 sense

There are no 50-year-old bare asses, no buckets of water, no buffoon singing or shouting over Tony's leads or stumbling around the stage like a senile, arthritic old man. No need to use video cuts from multiple performances to get enough decent footage of the singer for a specific song. There are no interviews cutting into the middle of a song, no anti drug rants. (There are plenty of interviews and other enjoyable hoohaw in the Special Features - where they belong!)
There is just a lot of very tight, LOUD, kick-ass rock-n-roll, performed, in some respects, as serious and solemn as a Pagan ritual. If I need to temper that somewhat, I'd say there are times the performance seems just a bit subdued, as if they knew they were "on stage" (for the DVD) and only had one chance to "get it right." And as far as the production itself is concerned, I definitely would've preferred less "MTV" editing (the tendency to jump perspectives every few seconds), especially during Tony's leads. On the other hand, these guys have absolutely nothing to prove, and neither criticism really detracts from the enjoyment of seeing and hearing the incredibly powerful, beautiful music these guys created.
