Wow! 2008-06-23
I am a gamer but I have a narrow preference for the type of games I play, mainly Star Trek and MOHAA and COD4 LOL. I thought there was a problem with my new 8800 GS video card because I couldn't stay up with the other players in online play. But I realized that my eye and hand coordination had to catch up with the graphics of this game, and when they did, after playing for several hours, I felt great when I had a triple scoring spree and was promoted to corporal :-) This game delivers what all games should, challenge, outstanding graphics, and a sense of truth, in the case of war games, that in real life people do die for freedom. and we have many heros both sung and unsung--Wow!

Above and Beyond.... 2008-06-18
Simply put: this game has balls! Enough of the WWII scenarios, this game fulfills modern day newslines with eery parrallel. The multiplayer option allows you to link with international servers and kick some international A..

I love this game.... 2008-06-10
I never used to enjoy first person shooters until I got Ghost Recon. At some point I bought Call of Duty 1 and enjoyed the heck out of that. It felt like I was in a World War II movie.

I didn't get any of the other versions until I got this one. Had a few glitches running it on my PC but getting more memory helped in that regard and I am amazed by this game. I don't particularly care for the linear storyline but it works.

The thing that really blew me away was the nuke that goes off in about the middle of the game. The spinning of the helicopter as it crashes and then the brief looking up to see the mushroom cloud. That is one experience I hope I never see in real life.

Great game for Single Player 2008-06-06
This is a great single person FPS, good story lines. The on-line game is every bit as fun. Get the game for hours of fun!

it worth the $$$$$$$$ 2008-05-30
this COD 4 is the best i played so far in this series, the graphic and intense fighting were very good
Pro: good game story, graphic and explosion scene.
con: the game is too short, it has only like 15 chapters, i wish they can add more.

overall, i would give this game 95 out of 100, it is a must have for gamers.

Very entertaining in both single and multiplayer modes 2008-07-21
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
In video games, I especially like First Person Shooters, and COD4 has to be considered one of the best available right now. It's graphices, sound, story and voice acting are all very, very good. It falls down in the single player game in being too short, and too scripted and linear compared to Crysis, for example, but is still challenging, varied and enjoyable. One of the features that bothers me is that if you don't advance during the course of a battle to where the designers think you ought to be, you can plan on the enemy spawning endlessly. I'd really like to see that changed in future iterationsto allow a different approach to a battle.
The multiplayer game, although it borrows the maps from the single player games, is another experience altogether. Be prepared for hundreds of servers with varied setups and maps, featuring A LOT of players, many of whom are VERY good at what they do (including my son). As a 65 year old, I can tell you that old age reaction times can be a challenge! I highly recommend this game.

One of the Best FPS Ever 2008-07-08
As a gamer, I tend to rate the state of the video game industry by the quality of First Person Shooter games, both PC and PS II. FPS is my favorite type of video game.

With the release of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, I feel as though the video game industry is in fine shape. This game delivers highly detailed and realistic game play with amazing graphics and extremely true to life sound.

Technically, the game seems to have few glitches, although I recommend a robust video card with good ventilation in your system. The state of the art graphics are demanding on your video card. I've also found that the game is stable as long as the default "optimal" settings are used in your profile in the game setup. For example, the default "optimal" settings option sets the video display at 800x600 with a refresh rate of 60 Mhz. When I tried to adjust the display settings to match my 1280x1024 monitor I experienced crashes during game play. However, when set to the default "optimal" setting, the game is stable, and the aspect ratio appears fine on my larger monitor.

Those issues aside, this is a great, fun game, with just the right pacing and level of difficulty through a variety of modern combat scenarios. Although the game does not have full "save at any point capability, the spontaneous healing capability from enemy fire eliminates the annoying need to constantly pick up health packs. This goes a long way toward balancing the lack of save progress control.

Lastly, this game does have a limited number of levels, and I am awaiting the new release of Call of Duty: World at War. I wish though, that Activision would release an expansion pack for this game instead of a whole new game. While they have published a few new maps for the online/multi player version recently, this is not really a full expansion, so the game remains relatively short at four levels. In the final analysis though, the quality of play and amazing graphics in this game make this one of the best video games to date, and I highly recommend.

Thanks,

Allen

Excellent FPS for Modern warfare.. 2008-07-01
COD, COD2, and now this little diddy. Wow this is s superb game. I am a single player kind of guy, If I want multi player, I will log in and play counter strike. For single player games, i want something just like this. the story is excellent, with more than a few plot twists and surprises. The only gripe about this game is that in typical infinity wad fashion, it is short. But it is soooo damn good... Viva la expansion!

Hard to beat this game in all area's! 2008-06-30
This is an addictive game that provides hours of fun. Little pricey getting your PC upgraded to play in high detail (cheaper to purchase a console than to build/buy a PC that can handle the graphics).

Superb, but needs to be more challenging & longer 2008-06-25
Basically, COD4 is a very fine game and a superb cinematic experience. It's like being in a modern war movie. I finished the game on the 2nd highest level of difficulty (hardened?). The majority of the game was pretty easy to get through. There were two places in the game that were extremely challenging, and those were much more rewarding to complete. This game could've used a lot more challenging missions. I wouldn't say it's a short game, but I'd say it's a medium length game. It took me a few days to finish. I still think that Halo 1 is a better game than COD4, mainly because the gameplay is deeper, more sophisticated, and challenging. When you play Halo in legendary mode, you constantly have to come up with tactical strategies for successfully getting through areas. Whereas when I played COD4, you never needed any strategy except for the two very challenging battles in COD4 (ferris wheel & launch control). The Halo series of games are the best selling ones for a good reason. They are the most in-depth, fun, and challenging in terms of gameplay. Halo also has better interaction with your fellow soldiers and your enemies. You feel like they are real people. Characters in Halo are always making comments & chatter relevant to whatever is going on in a particular situation. That makes it a lot more immersive and fun. There's not so much interaction in COD4. COD4 is mostly like a shooting gallery. You just shoot whatever pops up. The characters in COD4 talk only for the sake of advancing the story, where as the friends & foes in Halo talk all the time, which makes it more interactive and engaging. That's one of my favorite things about Halo. So while COD4 is superb as far as it goes, they should take this game and develop it a bit farther. They should add more in-depth gameplay, more sophisticated combat, more interactivity between characters, and a longer and deeper story. I think they should work on adding those things to the next COD game instead of making a new graphics engine. The graphics are fine as they are.

I want to add that before COD4 came out, I was wishing for a game where you could fight against muslims. After 9/11 and all the crap that has happened since then, plus all the decades of never-ending terrorism, plus the future threat of nuclear bombs from muslims, I am really sick and tired of them and I think the gaming world is crying out for a really good, in-depth, satisfying game where you can get your revenge on them. I thought it was great that you do get to fight against muslims in COD4, but I don't think it was enough. You still fight Russians in the majority of the game. It's like it's only politically correct to fight white people in games. It seems like all the game developers are chickening out of making a good game where you fight mainly muslims. We also still don't have any good games where you fight in World War II against the japanese, or in the Viet Nam war, or the Korean war. I guess they're also too chicken too make games where you fight asians. This is ridiculous. They are missing out on many big money-making opportunities here! I think that stinks! I want to see a complete spectrum of first rate FPS war games where you get to fight all the major wars in all the major theaters, regardless of the ethnicity of the enemies.
