Best Bet...
2008-07-24
I recently bought this noise canceling head phones and I found them really good. There are very few minor problems but overall its good.
I have done little bit research on noise canceling head phones before buying one...and I feel its not wasted...the problems I faced are same as faced by some other reviews.
Let me tell about the cons first...
1. Battery placement...It can be outside somewhere...every time, I think of taking out the battery, I feel like breaking the ear cups...stupid design (I gave 4 stars just because of this...)
2. The cord can be bit more of length. Its very short
3. Volume control
4. Some what costly for me, but ok with the competition...
(2 and 3) can be done by buying an extenstion cable with volume control for $10 but for the first problem, we have to put up with that.
Pros:
1. Bass is good.
2. Works great even without noise canceling ON, please look at the impedance in specs...its 96ohms(less is better) which is great when compared to senheissar and Audio Techica's and Bose doesn't fit here...
3. Comfortable: neither exactly over the ear nor on-the-ear but I feel its a nice design covering either design problems
4. Looks good and light on ear...ofcourse, the kit holder is also good...
5. I have seen some reviews saying about the amplication of sound when Noise canceling is ON...but its ok as you can always reduce the sound but dont think noise cancelation doesn't work at all.
6. Last but not the least, noise cancellation works great...
In the end, I think I made the right choice...over Panasonic RP-HC500, senheissar PXC-250, Audio Technica's ATH-ANC7...
No hiss noise-cancelling headphones, horrible battery changing
2008-07-23
No hiss produced into your ear from the noise-canceling circuitry unlike most such headphones!! The bass isn't mushy unlike the Bose but you might want to use a bass boost setting so you can listen quietly and still get a fuller sound. The cord come off for noise-canceling alone. They are on the ear like the Bose 3 not over the ear like the Bose 2. This is NOT obvious from the pictures. Comes with a flexible but solid case for safe storage in a backpack, it also include a zipping pouch in the middle for storing adapters and charged NiMH batteries. At first I was worried about the clean but tame sound but then I changed a setting on my Onkyo TX-SR805 and the sound opened up. The fact that I HEARD it open up means it can deliver a clean and open sound if supplied with good source material. The battery changing is HORRID. It should be easy like the very hissy but convenient Philips HN 110 and load from the OUTSIDE. The jacks are mini style but it has an adapter for the 1/4" jack on you receiver. The relatively short cord length is designed for traveling without it catching on items or dragging on the ground thus you should get an extension cord for home use. I haven't tried these on an airplane yet but they appear to be built for several hour of use with comfort. Make sure you have each cup squarely on each ear or you may still hear too much noise. Just listen for the ambient noise to sound more muffled and THEN flip on the switch to have the noise to drop down to a whispering whir, plus people talking (for safety), and then turn on any optional music or movies.
Very good noice canceling

Without noise canceling:
The sound is Ok, not the best but good enough.
The big plus of this product:
In the air, on a plane ... Incredible!! It seems like you are not on a plane anymore.
I can't fly without it now.
Flimsy construction

Purchased for a trip to Europe. Worked well on the flight over but broke when taking off my head in the airport before returning. The construction is very cheap plastic, putting great stress on the normal break points. I would not recommend.
Good not great

I've been through a variety of moderately priced head phones for my MP3 player. These are comfortable, for the most part. The noise cancelling is good not spectacular. My biggest complaint is that when using the EQ and the bass boost on my MP 3, these headphones, like the several other $100 dollarish sets I've tried tend to break up at higher volumes. If you wanna crank up hard rock these might not be what you're looking for but for audio books, or other lighter listening they're great.
So glad I bought them!

The HA-NC250's noise cancellation circuitry includes feedback technology that constantly monitors the noise cancellation process. As a result, the headphones eliminate up to 85 percent of extraneous background noise. To further block noise, the HA-NC250 offers two JVC innovations that help isolate the listener from outside sounds. First, each earpiece employs a double housing structure for an extra sound insulation layer. Second, JVC developed a technique for attaching the headphone's smooth memory foam cushioned ear pads to the housing that helps isolate background noise. The smooth pads also enhance comfort. These sound isolation features, for which patents have been applied, are especially important since the HA-NC250 can be used with the active noise cancellation switched off.For the best possible sound quality, the headphone uses a 40mm neodymium driver in each earpiece. For comfort and portability, the JVC HA-NC250 is one of the lightest headphones in its class, weighing just 5.3 ounces. It folds flat, and when folded is slimmer than most competing models. Included with the HA-NC250 are a slim carrying case, a four-foot detachable cord, airline dual plug adapter, and 0.25 inch plug adapter for use with many home audio and video components. The headphones use a single 1.5-volt AAA battery for powering the noise cancellation circuitry.
gift for husband

I purchased this item as a birthday gift for my husband. He is very picky so I was surprised when he said they were perfect. He is always quick to complain and slow to compliment if at all so I guess these headphones are really great because when he called me to let me know he was at his destination the first thing he said was how great the headphones were and how happy he was that I got them for him. Four trips later they are the first thing he reminds me to pack for him. Thanks Amazon for having them available.
Great Headphones!

These really are a great pair of headphones.
I got them for work since I recently took a job that involved a cube farm. Putting these headphones on and turning on the noise canceling instantly makes me breathe a sigh of relief. It's like having my own little haven to go to in order to get away from the noise of the cube farm.
They block all lower frequency sounds (low voices, air condition, computer fans, etc.) and muffle higher frequency sounds (women's voices, etc.). Combined with some music I can't even tell I'm in a cube anymore.
Speaking of music, I have found the sound from these headphones to be superb! Sure, it doesn't have huge amounts of bass, but what is there is clean and pure. Also, the detail in the mid and high range is exceptional.... I find myself hearing lyrics and background music details that I never heard before.
Finally: comfort. I was really looking for a pair of over the ear headphones because I knew I would be wearing these all day long. But after reading the positive reviews (and looking at the price) I went with this... and I'm glad I did. Firstly, they are _very_ light. I couldn't believe how light they were the first time I picked them up. Secondly, the cushions are very high quality, mating well with your ears, sealing out sound while not making your ears hot. Finally, the headband is of similar good quality, never bothering the top of my head (although it does put a crease in my hair!).
I have worn these headphones for about 5 hours a day for the past month and can't come up with anything bad to say about them....

Not what I expected.

I bought the JVC HANC250 headphones expressly to use on a long airplane trip. The price at a local giant electronics store was much higher than I paid through Amazon. Thank you Amazon! The headphones do make a small difference in noice reduction but not enough to warrant even the price on Amazon. The earbuds that came with my Ipod work just as well on noise reduction and better in sound quality without the annoying hessing noise, (see below).
The correct discription for this product would be an on-ear, not over-ear headphone with some noice reduction with the use of air hessing noises that combine with your music to give you the sense that you have noise reduction. The hissing noise is a distraction from the music for us older folks (62) who are beginning to have some difficutly hearing every little sound because we have been used to cranking up the volume for 50 years now. (I do not require hearing aids yet, just getting older).
Because they are not over-ear or in-ear devices there are gaps when the earphones are on your ear, these gaps allow any noise near by you to become amplified as it makes it though to your ears. If you have tiny earsa this may not be an issue for you. I actually found the music better for me without the noise reduction feature on.
Awesome performance and comfortable as well

I bought this headphone after doing much research and I am completely satisfied with its performance so far. There is a hum while turning on noise cancellation without music, but I don't just turn it on without music anyways. While traveling on Boeing 737-300 and 737-700 on a short trip, I tested it's performance and it really brought down the engine noise to zero.
