Even though the ONE, 3rd Edition is TomTom's entry-level portable GPS vehicle navigation device, it remains a complete solution with an incredible range of features.
Tiny, but Tough
A sleek design and a sharp display combine to make the TomTom ONE a vital companion on the road. THe ONE, 3rd edition comes pre-loaded with complete maps for the United States and Canada.
Weighing less than 10 ounces and measuring 4.33 x 3.5 x 1.34 inches, the TomTom ONE can be easily installed in any vehicle. An included windshield suction mount holds it in place. Plus, with an operating temperature range of an icy -10 degrees to a sweltering 55 degrees Celsius (14 to 131 degrees Fahrenheit), the navigator is durable enough for New England winters or Arizona summers. The TomTom ONE is powered by an internal lithium ion battery that can be charged from your vehicle's cigarette lighter with the included 12-24V adapter.

The user-friendly design also puts it a step above other navigation systems. The crystal-clear multicolor display makes for exceptionally easy viewing of maps, routes, driving directions, and other traveling information, such as mileage and distance. Measuring 3.5 inches, the TFT display offers a resolution of 320 x 240 to provide brilliant two- and three-dimensional graphics. The device also features 32 MB RAM and 380 MHz CPU, making it responsive and zippy. Using the USB port and the provided cable, you can use your PC to add your own points of interest.

This is my first GPS unit. I have always wanted to get one. It is pretty accurate, but have found some small mistakes but so far it works great.
It even works well with Geo-caching. I would recommend this to first time GPS users.

I am still learning to use my gps, but the thing I have found frustrating is the fact that I have had trouble trying to get it to route me to my destination without using the freeways. I have only used it to route me to those places I already knew how to get there in an attempt to acquaint myself with the navigator and it would not allow me to set an alternate route that did not take me onto the freeway. I believe from what use I have made of this gps it will help me when I use it to take trips which is the real reason I purchased it to begin with since I get lost so easily.

Excellent product for one who, such as myself, does not need a lot of options. Just direct me to the location. Speedy calculations and maps so far have been very accurate. Service, in terms of technical support, is excellent.
Pretty good for the money 2008-05-02
I have owned a Magellan 700 (basically junk from a company with poor support) and an excellent Garmin 2270. On a recent trip to Italy, we rented a 1-Series BMW from Avis and took the GPS option. The GPS was a TomTom One 3rd Gen. With no instructions, we were able to function with the unit in strange environs. Maps were out of date, Italy has gone nuts putting roundabouts EVERYWHERE, but that was not debilitating. The receiver worked well, even in tunnels! Satellite link-up was quick. Really did not miss the text to speech function of my 2270. The windshield mount was very secure. Touch screen worked well. When we missed a turn, recalculation was quick. Only negative, really, was that it was often tricky finding where to look for, in the menu system, an airport, for example. Menu options seem to be somewhat context/recent history sensitive. But then, we did not read instructions.
We liked it a lot and a GPS is NEEDED for US tourists in Europe, I think, if you rent a car.

Macintosh Owners Be Ware

The TomTom's functionalities are reported to be accessible through their "TomTom Home" application that you can download from their website. The "Operate My One" functionality (most important function) does not work on Mac's. I've tried for 3 weeks to get their Tech Support to help with this situation, and today they finally admitted that this functionality does not work on Mac's - and then added ...'get over it'...

It's amazing! 2008-05-10
About three weeks ago my wife purchased a Tom-Tom One for me for my birthday. She'd asked if I wanted a vehicle GPS -- I told her I didn't. I was concerned about the difficulty of using it, thinking it'd be another piece of technology shoved in a drawer. She bought it anyway.
I have to admit, it's absolutely amazing. The Tom-Tom doesn't come with a manual. It's touch screen and fairly intuitive. Hit the screen for the menu, scroll through options, type in an address or locate by category (e.g. restaurants, shopping) -- and it DONE. It takes 2 seconds to program the trip map and it's off. Voice command and video command guides you -- if you choose to vary the route (e.g. if Tom-Tom wants to guide you to take an interstate/freeway, but you move on to take a different route, Tom-Tom automatically adjusts to your change, automatically reroutes, and takes you there anyway.
Whereever you are, to get home you touch the screen and reroute to home and Tom-Tom takes you home.
We're using it several times/week since placing it in the vehicle.
Example, we had to take a family member to a hospital 95 miles away, in a town we'd not been to before. I entered in the town, clicked on Hospital, picked the correct hospital from a list provided by Tom-Tom, and clicked Done (equal to Enter). Tom-Tom guided me out of my driveway and all the way to the hospital. It identified every cross street -- on freeways it advised me of any time I'd have to pull off 2 miles before the ramp, and again 1/4 mile before the ramp, and then at time to pull off. It visually, continuously advised me of miles driven, miles remaining to go, and gave me an estimated arrival time. Coming home, I pulled off on a different ramp/exit to purchase gas and have some dinner. When I got back in the vehicle, the Tom-Tom re-routed me automatically and brought me back on the freeway and guided me home.
Also, it came with a rechargable battery that runs without plug in about 90 minutes, and included a car charger and a computer USB connector/charger. The screen is crisp and clean. The voice directions are crisp and clear. And it's easy to use.
I'm amazed. No kidding.
Easy to use great price! 2008-05-09
I am a not a technically gifted person when it comes to electronics. This device is idiot proof! I had it up and running in two minutes. It has many extra features which I am still learning. You only need to get lost once in a bad part of town to realize this product is worth it! It comes with the winshield mount so don't order it as an extra. Big bang for the buck! A solid A rating!
