Mighty might inflator
2008-02-07
I own black and deckers older versapak inflator. This one has better batteries so it works at least as well even though the older unit might have a better pumping action. I used this to pump up the tires on my trailer, I think it mostly drained a battery (didn't stop but I could hear a change in the sound of the pump) but the fact remains it took two trailer tires up 40 pounds each without killing a battery. I haven't tried it on the car tires or the bike tires yet but I'm not afraid to. Just be sure you've got a bunch of charged batteries. The local home depot was clearing these out so I got a good price, this system is worth the price, it should be around awhile since I noticed the batteries and devices at walmart. The guy with the problem with it blowing the valve off either didn't have it on right or got a bad one, I've had no problems with mine, this would be great for blowing up an air mattress when you go camping and then the same batteries run the small vac for sucking sand off the floor of the tent when you fold it up. Like the system but this unit doesn't come with batteries or a charger you get that with the drill or the driver or the saw.
Portable Inflater / Pump WOW - Awesome
2008-01-19
I received my inflater this morning and have already used it twice! I fixed a flat on my wheelchair, and pumped up my van tire. Anyone / everyone with inflatable wheels will find this tool completely amazing! This tool is awesome and I recommend buying one for anyone with wheels: but make sure you get one for yourself too! The whole series of these VPX portable tools use the same batteries: I can't wait to receive my power inverter with usb charger output! Flat tires won't stop me anymore! Thank You B&D: these tools are BAD to the Bone!
Broken out of box

I Bought the product for Christmas present for my son, who is an avid bicycle rider. As soon as the battery charged he went to try it.
The air compressor ran for about 30 seconds, then smoke not air was produced. That was it for the product.
I have returned the product to Amazon, and I am awaiting a replacement.
This has been my experience to date. When the new one arrives I hope for better luck, maybe air this time and not smoke.
its ok not worth 30 bucks

i got mine at home depot for 15 bucks and thats about all its worth. To inflate toys it works great. The tire inflater is horrible, it doesn't fit and blows right off when you turn it on. Do not buy it if you want to inflate your kids tires. I already have the kit and batteries so its ok but if you had buy batteries i would stay away.
Only Good for Little Jobs

I just tried using it to inflate the tires on my sports-sedan and was very disappointed. The hose is very short; I cannot see the pressure gauge that's attached while engaged to the valve. Even worse, the connection (hose-to-inflator) leaked air no matter how tight I tried to make the connection. If only Black & Decker had used metal instead of plastic. The plastic connectors are simply not strong enough to handle the forces associated having a short hose. For pumping up my basketball, it works great. I'm betting it does a decent job of filling the pool toys with air. But I'm disappointed by its performance on my Lexus IS300's tires.
Not a worthwhile accessory

I have other VPX components besides his inflator (driver, inverter, flashlight) and consider them to be worth the reduced prices I paid for them. I only paid 5 dollars for the pump at Home Depot and am glad I didn't pay a dime more as it really is not a well thought out or performing device. For instance, it is claims to go to 75 psi but just barely makes 60 psi and is straining too hard at pumping up one mountain bike tire on a full charge). Why does the pressure gauge got to 125? Did Black and Decker get a real good deal on these cheap plastic, over-scale gauges? Inflating a ball to 3 psi barely registers on this huge scale.
No battery pack!

I hate to give this item a low rating, but I really never got to try it. I liked that it was on sale and was very excited about that, but when I got it I saw that it doesn't include a battery pack. I couldn't afford to get the battery pack as well, so I've had to return it. With the battery it really isn't that great of a sale and very expensive, for me. I guess if you have a soccer team or something... ;) But I just wanted to fill up my toddler's soccer ball! :P I got the manual pump instead and it works great! :)
Not well Designed Previous Versapak much better made.

I also own the Versapak version of this product. It is made much stronger and has a 12" hose. The short hose severely hampers the use in many applications. The pressure gauge is super inaccurate. It is plenty powerful for most applications. BD knows how to do thus better just look at their previous VP700. Love the lithium batteries. I have bought other items in the VPX line and have been very pleased.
B&D new VPX Inflator
2008-04-05
After I bought my 1st VPX item I was hooked. I had the line of B&D tools using the 3.6V batteries but with time and lent tools that were never seen again I needed to update. The item that concerned me most was the inflator, as the ads don't specify car tire inflation as a job they do well. I drive a Prius and like to keep tires them fully inflated and my prior Inflator still worked but I hate replacing ever more expensive 3.6V replacement batteries. These new VPX batteries hold more of a charge for a longer time. Anyway I found the new pump able to top-off four tires on a single battery (up to 40 lbs of pressure) without a problem.
Light-weight, more power and runs longer. I'll go to 5 stars if it keeps working like new.
