How bad is it?
2008-05-19
I read the reviews and thought: How bad can this be? Well here we go:
1. It is so loud it will wake anyone sleeping. Coffee grinder loud!
2. The reservoir is so small it runs out in 10 seconds.
3. The tip is so mobile (rotates all over the place), you can't control it.
4. It is poorly designed, too large, and difficult to hold (Can't imagine if you have small hands).
5. Poor battery life, long charge time, no charge indicator. After two uses I needed to recharge! (yes I let it charge up initially for 16 hours!).
6. Waste of time to purchase!
Back to Amazon for this little doggie... (actually, that is being unkind to small dogs!!!).
Poor design, construction

I have used it for two weeks. Now I have decided to throw it away. This is one of the worst dental products I have tried. Here are the problems I have.
1. The tip keeps popping out if I set the power to high. I tried both the regular tip and the tip for pockets. Both of them have the same problem. So I don't bother to buy a new tip.
2. The tip vibrates a lot that I cannot position it to the gum line. The whole idea is to get the water to the gumline. But it vibrates so much that it won't do the job right.
3. Tip rotates on the contact of anything. By design, there is a dial to rotate the tip. But it can be easily rotated by slightly turning it. So once the tip is in your mouth, it changes the direction easily.
4. Smaill reservoir: The water reservoir is very small. It was designed that way to be portal. Unfortunately it is simply too small. I have to fill water four times to cover the whole mouth.
5. There is no charging light. With all the problems above, I actually don't care too much on this.
The whole idea of water jet is even doubtable. I used this for two weeks without using proxabrushes for my perio problems. My gum started bleeding again. I would classify this as a piece of junk. I may use it as water gun for my kids. But again the water reservoir is too small...
Poor Performance, Smaller Reservior, Poor Value
2008-05-09
Because of their inherent convenience and ease of use, I am a big fan of battery-powered oral irrigators and have had several of Waterpik's older WP-360W model. I also have a Panasonic EW1270AC which I reserve for travel because of it's tiny reservoir and compact size. Those WP-360s suffered from weak batteries and unreliable electronics so I went through several of them and was initially happy to see Waterpik introducing a new-improved, and more costly WP-450 "Ultra". Unfortunately, there is nothing improved about the WP-450 and it is merely an "Ultra-disappointment".
Pros:
-Some reviewers have observed better battery life, I was unable to confirm this.
Cons:
-Expensive, Poor Value: Price is ~70% higher than the WP-360
-Poor Reservoir Capacity -only 120 ml or 20% less than the already-tiny WP-360's 150 ml
-Terrible portability, large/inefficient size, ungainly ergonomics
-Weak water stream.
In short, the Waterpik Ultra WP-450 is less (performance) for more (money). Two thumbs waaay down.
close, but no cigar .. .it doesn't make it

With high hopes I got this. it has some serious flaws: the reservoir tank is good for 1/3 of the mouth and the tip keeps jumping out of the holder and rotates. WaterPik can and should do better.
Poorly Thought Out Design, Didn't Do The Job
2008-04-28
I echo the comments in previous reviews, and add the question: did anyone in management at Waterpik try this thing before they decided to sell it? The poor design is awful. It defeats the user. Waterpik should be embarrassed.
Two problems say it all. As someone else commented, the head swivels uncontrollably in your mouth, making it impossible to control the angle of the water when it hits your teeth, which is after all the purpose of using the waterpik.
Second, as also noted, the reservoir is small. After you are done wrestling with the swiveling head, the water runs out -- it's like an I Love Lucy comedy.
I actually like the Waterpik concept, and own a larger unit. However, I have had problems with poor quality. The first one I bought didn't work and needed to be returned. I also bought the earlier travel version, which seems to be no longer made, and it worked well but fell apart after about 3 weeks of use. Now this. It's hard to imagine a competitor hasn't emerged and offered a well thought out, quality alternative.
Waterpik Ultra Cordless Water jet

This thing really works very well. My teeth and gums feel better already. Recharging is very quick and the jet power is more than adequate for my needs.
works great

The water pick worked great for my son with braces. Thanks for a great product.
Real easy to use

I found this to be really convenient and fun to use. I ended up giving it my granddaughter (11 years old) that just got braces and she liked using it. It made having the braces not so painful.

I have had this product for several weeks and so far it has been performing as expected. I had previously read reviews by others and was concerned about the constant refilling of water before the entire mouth was completely cleaned. I only need to refill it once and there is plenty of water leftover. It all depends on how fast or how slow you move the waterpik through your mouth. As for the complaints regarding the length of time it stays charged, mine is keeping the charge for one week (one person usage). I will ask my dentist at the next checkup if she can tell the difference between my flossing and using this device - any cleaner?
Shame On Water Pik
2008-05-31
I have had the earlier 360 twice and of course the batteries died on both before the year was out. I have never made a claim, too much trouble and who has time. That's something Water-Pik is banking (literally) on. I said in a review on the 360 earlier I was going to be stupid and try this one but it would be the last chance for Water-Pik. So I did and in an age where battery problems like these do not have to be the case Water Pik puts sorry battery technology again in this unit. They know it and it is not an accident, but a complete rip off. The Ultra lasted less than 4 months used twice daily. Great unit for pressures and portablilty. Get over the small reservoir it is a portable and 3 seconds to refill, so get a life. That is why they are portable. I will NEVER own another Water Pik product. There is no excuse to market this junk. It is not as if they are unaware of the problem and therefore they are DISHONEST to be sure.
