Very Pleased wit BitDefender

I was really surprised how easily this installed. I had no problems at all. The interface is very easy to use. The customer service was terrific. I emailed a question and they emailed me back within 24 hours a very logical and easy-to-understand explanation.
I had used NAV or Norton Internet Security for many years because of their name/reputation. In the last several years, I had so many problems with installation and getting it to work correctly. Their "customer service" sure wasn't. It should be called "customer frustration".
Anyway, I would highly recommend BitDefender Internet Security 2008 to anyone considering it.
Firewall Problem
2008-03-25
Got this at the beginning of March. Loaded on my Dell Inspiron 8600 running XP sp2. Installed ok, but when Firewall is activated, I am unable to connect to the internet. Disable Firewall and I can connect. Not good as Firewall is one of the main reasons for getting this software.
Contacted support...followed their instructions. 3 emails later (8th March was last I heard from them) still not working, writing this review on March 24th!. Perhaps they are on holiday?
Bit Defender Internet Security 2008

I like this product a lot, but do have an issue with the company. They are not very willing to help with problems and conflicts. I had Spybot Search & Destroy on my computer and it was conflicting so I removed it, and couldn't get rid of all the files and techs with BitDefender don't seem to want to help with that issue. Although as far as security programs goes I feel BitDefender is what it lives up to.
Horrible product

Bought this program based on great reviews in magazines and on the web, but after a week of trying to get it to work, I dropped it and went back to McAfee. The program shuts off its features, like the firewall, without warning and you have to reboot to get them back. If your computer doesn't have a fixed IP address, the firewall rules you create clear themselves at every reboot, and you have to reenter them. The program has a huge white list of hundreds of applications I don't use and has no way of editing the list to reduce it or add your own applications (believe it or not, the latest versions of IE, Outlook, and Firefox aren't on the white list). The program is a resource hog (maybe because of the huge white list)--it has a small footprint when there is no computer activity, but it really slows down anything that requires internet access. Firefox, Outlook, IE take more than twice as long to start.
Not quite ready for Prime Time

This software suite is quite problematic. The initial install on my Win XP SP3 system went very poorly. Their central system was down and Bitdefender couldn't communicate with it when it needed to during install (for updates and registering). For this and other reasons, the result was problems with Outlook caused by Bitdefender's anti-spam module's interface with it. Outlook would not come up at times and I'd have to reboot to get it to work. The XP shutdown was quite bizarre, indicating that many modules were not shutting down properly.
What was really surprising was that it allowed the XP firewall to remain on. It didn't even tell me to turn it off, either.
Tech support via chat was useless as they couldn't quite understand my questions, but support by email was better. They wanted me to run some diagnostics available on their website and send the results to them. Their reply was quick and they recommended uninstalling and reinstalling with a special uninstaller and reinstaller also available on their website. After doing so, Outlook worked ok but my registry had many errors. Fixing the registry with Registry Mechanic caused Bitdefender to stop working completely, so I went through the uninstall and reinstall again. The registry was ok this time, and as of this writing Bitdefender is still working, but for how long I don't know.
Operationally, you don't know there's any behind-the-scenes problems such as it's firewall or real-time protection being off due to some sort of failure. Usually, the tool tray icon on the lower right of your screen would flash or display an exclamation point or something. So, I have to keep double-clicking on the tool tray icon to see if everything is still working.
Internet security software is the most problematic of all software, so I guess they can be forgiven for all of this. It appears that they are trying, though. Eventually I think they'll work the bugs out.
No issues, working well
2008-05-08
No issues running on a XP Dell 2.8 Dual Core 2G ram laptop for the past 3 months. Game mode works well. Updates are just about invisible. Full system scans take about 80 mins for 120 gigs.
No issues have popped up since I've installed it. It's either very light and non-intrusive, or it's not working at all... I doubt it's the latter.
Windows XP could not reboot after installing BitDefender internet Security 2008
2008-04-28
I have a windows xp sp2 running on HP workstation xw4100.
During installation of the BitDefender internet Security 2008, windows xp warned of "Software did not pass Windows Logo testing" three times. I ignored them and continued to install it. Then things seemed to be OK.
But when I tried to reboot the PC, the system crashed after I entered my windows xp username and password. I had to reboot the PC in safe mode and remove BitDefender. I tried the installation procedure twice more, with the same results.
I saw some other reviews complained about failing the Windows Logo testing, I think Bitdefender should fix this problem first before selling. I give this product 1 star and don't recommend any one to buy it.
Update: I have been contacting them for the past 2 weeks, tried several suggestions they offered, did not fix my problem. No phone support during the weekend, and during the workday, it took a long time to reach an agent. They should not advise the 24/7 support on their box, it is a lie.
Works Great

Great Buy - Very Pleased
Stops Spyware

I'm a graphic artist. I'm always downloading trials of new software to help me with new designs and projects. With that said, I've inadvertently downloaded my fair share of spyware. Trend Micro didn't stop my computer from connecting online and interrupting me during projects. This BitDefender version did the trick and I can now focus on my projects. I can't even tell when it's running... but its definitely making a big difference so far.
