Good Inexpensive Laser Printer
2008-06-16
We are currently using two of these in our office. One has been used for a few months now. Both are working great.
Doesn't work with Mac OS X Leopard
2008-06-10
The title sums it up: It won't print, even with the new "Leopard" drivers, under OS X 10.5 Leopard. Jobs do not clear the print queue when complete. Tech support has strung me along since I bought the thing in January (it is now June). Now I don't want it anymore, but I'm stuck with it, and I'm angry. If you have a Mac, buy something else.
Unusable on Mac - HP behind on driver development
2008-05-23
Cute printer. Very portable. But... HP has not released a driver for Mac OX 10.5 (Leopard). Wish I would have known that before ordering! HP's website has almost 100% INCORRECT information about the drivers for this printer. Had to call tech support to find out it was not usable with my system.
Cheap laser printer works fine for me
2008-05-16
I got this from another online vendor for sixty bucks, and consider it a great deal. You can't beat a laser printer for that price. It's fast, turns out decent quality pages, and works with most Windows versions. I bought it partly for the price and partly because it has drivers for Windows Server 2003, which is what my print server is running. I don't know where people are getting these "no drivers" complaints - it has drivers for any version of Windows from 2000 to Vista, and most recent versions of Mac OS X.
No, it can't compete with HP's workgroup lasers, but for the price, it's great. The only caveat I'd offer is the price of toner: it comes with a "starter" cartridge that's only half the regular size, and replacements cost as much as the printer itself. Looks like the cartridges last a while, though - I've printed a fair amount with it and haven't even used up the starter cartridge.
Weak & Expensive

Advertised at a low price. You get what you pay for. It can't handle documents, has a deplorable output capacity, and a small printout tray. HP states the toner will last for over 1,000 sheets of printing but I received a low toner message after only several hundred, and this was with a full-size black toner. Don't trust HP.
They're just selling the product to get big bucks on toners. Look elsewhere!!!!!!!!!
major software issues
2008-07-09
this printer whenit decides to work, is great.Huge issue with my brand new hp cpu doesnt recognize the printer, contacted hp over 15 times and spoKe to tech support and at least 3 times a week i cant print because the printer wont communicate with my computer(if i restart my computer its a 50/50 chance of the printer working,if it doesnt work i have to remove the software and redownload it from hp.it will work for a couple of days and go down again and id have to repeat the process)
ALTHOUGH I PAID ONLY $99 FOR THIS PRINTER I WISH I WOULD HAVE BAUGHT A SAMSUNG OR EPSON PRINTER FOR THE EXTRA MONEY SO I WOULD NOT HAVE THESE PROBLEMS
Good Printer

This printer replaced a Brother HL2040. The toner gives far fewer prints, however there's no drum unit to replace. The brother would deliver 2,000 prints on a $50 toner while the HP delivers 1,500 prints on a $55 toner. Take the cost of a drum and 5 cartridges every 10,000 prints on the Brother and the price is about the same. HP costs about 3.6 cents per page to operate and the Brother costs 3.5 cents based on my experience. The HP jams less and is much more crisp and clear. Go with the HP every time.
For those who complain about 1,500 pages being a small load or about a $100 printer running slower than a $1,000 printer, I suggest working with more printers on the low end before making your comparisons. This is a good unit. I will be buying more for the office. Each workstation here prints about 10,000 pages per year.
In a word: TERRIBLE!
2008-07-07
What a disappointment. Besides the fact that the cartridges cannot be purchased from the reman companies, the printer has proven to be very unreliable. I use Windows XP, and the ability to print comes and goes. The problem seems to be related to the HP Windows driver. Too bad HP has stopped selling the very reliable HP 1020 and 1022 models.
Good but networking probelms

Nice for a local printer but I was not able to get it to work properly as a shared printer.
Nice printer

Nice, cheap, fast, quality desktop laser. It simply works. I run 18 of these in an office. No problems.
