Love This Camera

Bought the Flip Video Ultra Camcorder for a family reunion. Captured Mother's 100th birthday party, lots of friends and relatives that we haven't seen in years, and it couldn't have been easier. Only negative is that we bought the camera while traveling and managed to set the date one day off. Doesn't seem to be fixable......ah well! Had a little trouble in the beginning with the play and stop button. Took a few practice shots to learn to push the red button with fingernail rather than thumb. The camera was easy to use and carry around and I just love videos and sound as opposed to a still camera.

This tiny video camera is perfect simplicity! My kids and I were using it as soon as we put the (included) batteries in, without reading even the very brief instructions. Picture is surprisingly good and we can't wait to take our Flip Ultra on vacation.
Love it for capturing the everyday moments - mac user 2008-05-12
I love the flip ultra. I use it with my mac with no problems. The first time I hooked it up, I didn't have sound to the videos but I updated quicktime and now I have no problems. I know the quality isn't excellent but it's pretty darn good for how much it is. The first thing I did was hook it up to the TV to see some of the test video and my husband and I were impressed. We still have our expensive camcorder that we'll use for important events but now I'm capturing all the cute little things my 1 year old does day to day because we just pick it up and push a button. I've been using it now for a couple months here and there and still haven't had to change batteries. It is decent in lowlight. It's challenging to keep it steady, you can compare that aspect of it to holding a phone steady while taking video - it's small and handheld so that was expected. The ring around the lens seems to scratch easily and I do keep my in the bag at all times when I'm not using it so I'm not sure how that happened so quick but the lens is fine and I've had no other problems.
Bottom line is that it was just what I wanted. I missed out on so many little cute things my one year old was doing because I didn't bother to grab the camcorder out of the camera bag and once I turned that on, I would tape for a while and it is such a process to hook my camcorder to the computer and upload the video. This takes care of those little moments and uploading is so easy. I try to keep our home videos interesting by just including small clips instead of long drawn out recordings so this was perfect. I LOVE my flip. At first my husband was like, "Oh no! What did you buy now!!". But now he loves it just as much and loves to show it off to our friends. In fact, 2 other friends of ours with kids just bought them because they were impressed with ours.

Why? Well, I received the camera. It worked great, then the screen went Snowy. I turned it off for the day. Came back to it the next day. No problems. I could not figure out how to add my own music yet. But that is operator error I am sure. Wish it was a little easier to do that. After I received the product I went to BEST BUY, found it for $20.00 CHEAPER. So, SHOP AROUND before you go crazy and get it on AMAZON.

This camera worked right out of the box for making videos. However, when I plugged it into the USB port the problems started.
I could write volumes but I'll just say that after spending several days trying to get it to work I finally decided that you really do get what you pay for.
I returned it today for a refund.

This camera is a great way for a person with zero video experience to get started without a big investment. The instruction guide is really short, because the device is so simple to use. Also, if you manage to screw-up the setup - like I did inputing the date/time, don't worry the online tech support is quick and puts you on the right road. I plan on using the camera at my next family reunion and posting the video on our website.
Perfect for Accessibility 2008-05-02
Don't buy this camera thinking that you are going to get great quality video. You won't. What this camera is great for is accessibility and capturing those moments on video that would have been lost otherwise. I have a young daughter and I have been able to capture SO many great moments that I would have only had in memory without this device.
I don't even use the built in software with my Mac. I use an open source video converter called QTAmateur to convert the AVIs directly from the camera into MP4 for import into iMovie. It works great and I have been able to share lots of videos with friends and family.

Love the Flip! 2008-05-02
I work for a cluster of radio stations where we started using Flip Video cameras to upload videos of station events, concerts, etc. After using the camera myself for a few interviews I found the ease of use and the convenient size perfect for my own personal needs. When my Flip Video Ultra arrived, I just popped in the batteries and started taking a video my grand-daughter. It was that easy! I would strongly encourage new grandparents to get one of these. What a great and easy way to capture videos of the grand kids! It's also the perfect size to carry in a purse or bag when traveling. The only downside I see is the limited amount of time (60 minutes) that you can store in the Flip Video Camera.
