Super Camera 2008-10-03
This is one really great little camera. Takes very sharp pictures and video, and it is very user friendly.

This is a great camera 2008-10-01
I've had this camera for about a month and am very happy. I took it on a aclimbing trip and got some great pics of the rainier summit and the sunrise. It has also worked very well in macro mode. I do feel as if the stabilizer improves the picture quality.

Needs Repair After 10 Months 2008-09-29
I absolutely love the features of this camera. Despite the negative things others have listed in their reviews, I still like my camera--I'm only an amateur and don't use all the features very often. We bought this camera last November, and while we were on vacation last week, it quit. The lens will not open or close completely. Can't take a picture, download, etc. I was very disappointed and expected better quality for the price. Fortunately for me, it's under warranty, but it's still aggravating. This is my second repair experience with a Canon digital camera--may try a different brand next time.

Great little camera 2008-09-20
When I don't want to tote around my bulky DSLR, the SD950IS does a great job. I can carry it in my shirt pocket and hardly know it's there. The shutter lag is shorter than other P&S cameras I've owned. Sharp pictures too.

Great little camera! 2008-09-19
I have officially learned my lesson, I will never stray from Canon again no matter what Consumer Reports or anyone else says. Canon makes a very good camera and I have been happy with my Canon camera's time and time again. Every time I am tempted by a different brand I get burned. Most recently by Fuji. This Canon camera is a little powerhouse. There are enough features and options to get really technical about your photography, but the auto setting is good enough to take mindless snapshots and have high quality results. I love it! It is smaller and more feature rich than my last three camera's and it takes a much better picture than my most recent camera mistake.

Fantastic Compact Camera 2008-09-06

12.1 MP is not great 2008-09-05
I have a Camera with 7.2 MP, and I bought this Cannon camera thinking I could have a better camera with more MP. I'm dissapointed for this Cannon camera, the pictures are not great how I expected. The worst thing is that pictures with my Camera with 7.2 MP are better than pictures with 12.1 MP. I don't know if is the Brand, if is my camera, or my bad luck, but I don't feel happy with this cannon camera. If I could have the chance to compare pictures before buy it, I would not buy it.

Good all around performer 2008-09-02
Fast startup and excellent quality pictures. Because most laptops these days come with an SD card reader, you don't really need the cable to transfer the videos/pics. Just pop out the SD card from the camera and stick it in the laptop for faster transfer. The image stabilizer works very well.

Good But!!!!!!! 2008-09-01
This is the first time that I had a problem with a cannon camera, lens would not shut all the way and when it did it would come up with a lens error. This happened the first day i bought it and we were leaving in 2 days for vacation, so i took it and used it. Takes great pictures, i had a s500 befor this one and it still works great. I am still raiting this camera 5 star because it was just a fluk thing that happened only thing is I had to pay 15.00 to ship it to cannon and they replace lens asembly for free but, never got any money back. I recomend this camera, just because it doesnt matter about what megapixes you get is lens qulity that counts, you can look that up at [...]

A very good point and shoot 2008-08-24
This is a very good point and shoot camera -- I was looking at something small to throw in my backpack for casual trips where I do not want to take my dSLR -- this very readily fills the bill.

Not as feature-rich as the G9, it does however feature the same processor and big 12.1 MP shots. You will need a large capacity SD card for this camera.

Battery life is good. Buy a spare if you plan on taking a lot of photos, since it will run out about 200 shots or so with all the features enabled.

The only downside -- to get at most of the great features in the camera, you have to go menu-hopping rather than having standalone feature buttons like on some of the other canon series cameras. But this camera really isn't designed for that purpose --

It is a great snapshot camera, and the scene modes work well at their preset settings. Enjoy!

Review: ... "Click! The No Nonsense Guide to Digital Cameras" is misnamed. It covers a lot more than just cameras. In a couple of hundred pages, it includes using a scanner and Adobe Photoshop Elements 2 to rescue faded, damaged family photos, the basic guidelines to good picture taking, how to use Elements 2 to improve your digital photos, and how to print and preserve your pictures for the ages. White, the author of the bestseller "How Computers Work," knows how to pack a lot of helpful, understandable information in a brief no nonsense book.

Review: "This Camera is one of the best in its price range. It takes beautiful clear pictures and can be used right out of the box, but its worth learning all its features. The included memory holds about 20-25 pictures so I upgraded to 128mb. I reccomend getting a 128mb card and the Sony camera case. Not only is this one of the best cameras in its class it includes decent software and rechargeable batteries that are at least a 20$ value.
HIGHLY reccomend over canon, kodak, and fuji. One more thing this camera has CARL Zeiss lens (if you dont know, great lens) all the competetors have generic lens."

From the Back Cover The megapixel hype
The fact is a camera’s megapixel rating is only a measure of how many pixels (photosensitive sites) an image sensor has…. An image sensor is simply one component of an entire system that produces a digital photograph… So resist buying into the megapixel hype when you’re choosing a digital camera. From Chapter 1
