What a great camera 2008-07-16
I bought this as a replacement for the previous model of the same camera (SD850 I believe) that was stolen and what a great camera this is. The wide angle feature is outstanding and the extra zoom compared to a 3x lens is perfect. The quality of the pictures is where Canon stands out, other cameras may have better zoom lenses, but the picture quality falls short. The start up time and the time between pictures is very short and the stabilization is very good.

Only one weakness, though not unexpected in a point and shoot, the flash is weak and is not good for any great distances.

Great little camera 2008-07-14
I wanted something small that was capable of quality photos. This is it!It fits nicely in my pocket. It has a pretty fast response time from off to snapping photos. My only disappointment is the quality of the digital zoom, it gets grainy. Overall I am very satisfied with my purchase though.

Can't beat the Canon SD series! 2008-07-14
Another great Canon point and shoot.

We were hesitant with getting a camera without a viewfinder, since in the past we have liked having them when in high light areas (like at the beach etc) since sometimes its hard to see the screen.

This is not the case with the huge, bright, and crisp screen on this camera. It has been bright enough in all situations to not need a view finder. One of our friends had the same fear...and they have been very happy with their sd870 IS.

Great battery life so far also!

Love the button preview when you lightly touch the touchpad. Good when you don't know what the buttons do. :)

Highly recommended camera!

most excellent 2008-07-14
This camera is amazing.... great screen... logical controls,,,, picture quality is top notch... the wide angle lens is very useful..... there is nothing that I can say needs improvement..

CANON POWERSHOT SD870IS 2008-07-13
TOOK CAMERA FOR FIRST TRY TO KOREA AND CHINA. LARGE VIEWER MADE IT EASY TO TAKE SOME GREAT SHOTS. HAVEN'T DISCOVERED ALL THE THINGS THE CAMERA CAN DO SINCE THIS WAS OUR FIRST OUTING, BUT TRANSFERRING PICS TO COMPUTER OR TV WENT EASILY. WE ARE VERY SENIOR CITIZENS AND FOUND THE CAMERA MUCH TO OUR LIKING AND OUR ABILITIES.

Why Canon? 2008-07-19
For primarily social situations not requiring long telephoto lens etc. this camera with its large LCD, face detection and image stabilization capabilities is almost ideal for non-professionals and then with the added wide angle lens well that does make it ideal for group pictures and casual on the go shots. The size makes it a handy carry around point shoot that doesn't intrude into the picture composition like some other "larger" point shoot cameras. Menu selections are easy to understand and playback review a separate button. Great camera.

Great Camera 2008-07-19
The Canon PowerShot SD870IS is everything, and more, that I expected. I especially like the simplicity of the menu selections and the wide-angle feature. Any difficulty I've had with the camera have been "operator error." With any device, take the time to read and understand the instruction.

Best Purchase ever 2008-07-19
This camera is very easy to use and still has alot of options. You will need to buy a bigger sd card to hold more pics. Great camera!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rocking Cannon Camera 2008-07-17
This is officially our second digital camera. The first was a PowerShot SD300, which I LOVED.

I had a hard time giving up print film photo-taking 4 years ago, but I've not looked back sense. Having long ago taken a class in using 35mm SLR's all the added features of the PowerShot line are not lost on me.

The SD870IS is totally rocking, with its large viewing screen and image stabilizer. I'm a sepia addict as well, so naturally I use that whenever I can. I'm often in serious awe of how sharp the pictures are. Even when printing onto photo paper little of the image quality is compromised.

For anyone looking for a solid digital camera AND has an interest in a tad more than point-and-shoot, this is product is worth every penny.

Love the Canon PowerShot SD870IS 2008-07-17
I really love this camera. I have a G5, but this is much more fun and easy to use. It's small enough to fit in my purse, does almost all the things the big camera does and is really attractive too. It has a lot of functions and getting to them is very easy. I really love the large lcd.
The battery has lasted a very long time on a single charge and I really like the fact I can use the huge sdhs cards in it. One 8gb card holds all I'll need for the complete vacation, including videos I may take as well.

I set the camera on "kids and pets." I caught my Bassett Hound running toward me and it caught a perfect shot of her when her long ears had bounced up making it look like she was flying. Really a perfect shot and clear as if she were still and posing!

I haven't used the camera much in darker environments, but what I have has been pretty good for a camera of this price.

In videoing with the full long distance, I find some thing are a little fuzzy. But the regular video is pretty good for a compact camera. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality.

I would recommend this camera to anyone who wants a great camera for vacation, kids and pets and about anything else you would want to capture. I LOVE this camera!Canon PowerShot SD870IS 8MP Digital Camera with 3.8x Wide Angle Optical Image Stabilized Zoom (Silver)

In a couple of hundred pages, it includes using a scanner and Adobe Photoshop Elements 2 to rescue faded, damaged family photos, the basic guidelines to good picture taking, how to use Elements 2 to improve your digital photos, and how to print and preserve your pictures for the ages. White, the author of the bestseller "How Computers Work," knows how to pack a lot of helpful, understandable information in a brief no nonsense book.

Review: "This Camera is one of the best in its price range. It takes beautiful clear pictures and can be used right out of the box, but its worth learning all its features. The included memory holds about 20-25 pictures so I upgraded to 128mb. I reccomend getting a 128mb card and the Sony camera case. Not only is this one of the best cameras in its class it includes decent software and rechargeable batteries that are at least a 20$ value.
HIGHLY reccomend over canon, kodak, and fuji. One more thing this camera has CARL Zeiss lens (if you dont know, great lens) all the competetors have generic lens."

The fact is a camera’s megapixel rating is only a measure of how many pixels (photosensitive sites) an image sensor has…. An image sensor is simply one component of an entire system that produces a digital photograph… So resist buying into the megapixel hype when you’re choosing a digital camera. From Chapter 1
