Ugly But Functions Beautifully 2008-07-16
This is my second Canon printer, replacing my Canon S900 printer. The photo printing quality is superb, faster than my prior printer and far quieter. Having two paper inputs makes switching between photo paper and printing paper easy, but you need to remember to select which source you need, because there is no automatic selection. Printer utility function works well. Inserting the print head was a bit awkward, but you can check alignment manually and automatically. Scanner works very nicely. The footprint is pretty large. Interface is easy to use, and printing from memory cards and camera is a dream. I'm hoping that the Pixma MP970 is not the ink hog my earlier Canon printer was, but it's too early to tell that yet. Seven ink tanks will make ink expensive, but the photo quality makes is worth it. Ordered mine through Crutchfield, and they delivered it in two days without shipping costs. One complaint: Needs optional Bluetooth adapter (bummer), and Canon store is out of stock.

If it wasn't for the ink tanks..... 2008-07-12
I have no issues with the quality of the printing or the scanning or the copying.

I can't rate this product higher than 2 stars based on the fact that the device does not work for any functions if you get an ink tank error. The logic behind this escapes me. Fixing this oversight would do a lot to improve my respect for the device.

ACGP 2008-07-09
The Canon Pixma MP970 was reviewed by a number of the publications to which I subscribe. All-In-One Photoprinter. I purchased it at a good price. It arrived on time from Amazon. It was well packaged. Taking it out of the box and placing it on my desk I found it to be very big and heavy. It has a large footprint. It comes with a flyer with clear and detailed instruction for setting it up and obtaining a test color and print. There is also an manual and a CD with print drivers and a manual to install on a hard drive. After following all of the set-up instructions - the printer did not work. The error message on the LCD was not in the manuals. I called Canon technical support (Friday afternoon at 5 PM). The tech support answered in less than a minute and took me through trouble shooting the problem. The tech support supervisor was consulted and agreed that the MP970 was broken and needed repair. With the nearest Canon repair shop very inconvenient to access, I returned the MP970 for a refund. I purchased the Canon Pixma iP4500 - a photoprinter from Amazon. The reason is clear - Canon manufactures top flight equipment and more important tech support is available - even at inconvenient hours. I decided that I did not need a large footprint all-in-one multifunction printer since my major use is printing photos and text. Finally, I have found that the Pixma iP4500 is a wonderful printer - and very fast.

Best Ink Jet I have had so far 2008-06-19
I love this printer. This printer replaced an HP 1700. I was looking for something that would do decent color photos and was network ready. I don't use this for B/W because it also own a laser.

The prints are beautiful and the network connectivity works like a charm. I have owned it for about 5 months and love it. The features are great for a printer of this price.

Things I really like:
1. Network built in
2. Duplex built in
3. Can copy w/o computer powered up.
4. Built in card reader
5. Ink Cartridges are priced reasonably.

Cons:
Small paper tray
Rather larger

If you are looking for a color ink jet - look no further. Much better than HP products.

Wow...a truly simple setup 2008-06-15
This is by far the simplest printer to set I have ever seen. Considering all the features this is remarkable. Excellent software. My wife went right to work on it without asking me one question...truly intuitive (the printer that is). I haven't tried to network the printer yet, so can't comment there.

The scanning, copying, printing (both photos and text) are just plain beautiful and more than met my highest expectations. Did I mention this baby is fast! If the long term reliability proves good then this printer is a real winner. Let you know in a couple years.

One of the best Printers for the price 2008-06-07

Easy set-up 2008-06-07
I would not usually buy a high-priced printer. This was won in a photo contest and given to me. I have been generally pleased. The multi ink cartridges looked scary a first but do not seem to be a problem. I called Canon tech service to help me through the mystery of scanning for the first time. The surprise was the great service! I could understand the familiar U.S. voice and he understood he was dealing with a novice. Good experience!
My wife has a little AsusEEE which runs Linux. It connected immediately with no action on my part so now I'm plagued with printing from afar. The printer automatically connected with my iMac, again, nothing to do on my part.
Great pictures and does not seem overly ink hungry.
I now have bragging rights over my nerdy son-in-law

great printer 2008-06-07
I purchased this printer about 2 months ago and have used it daily since then. The scanner is very fast and yields great quality images. I do all of my image editing in photoshop so I can't say how well the scanning software works regarding editing. I'm a painter and I use this printer for creating prints of my original work. I have used the canon photo paper with excellent results and I also print on fredrix archival print canvas which is canvas that is made for use with inkjet printers. The results with the canvas are unbelievable! All of my customers have been very happy with their prints.
The one downside to this printer is that the ink runs out FAST!!! I blew through the black and the yellow very quickly. Cost for replacement tanks at staples was around $13 + change, although there are cheaper prices to be found online.
Overall, very satisfied. Gave 4 stars due to the ink running out quickly.

Excellent Printer, but... 2008-06-07

Easy to use, high-quality color printer/scanner.

As a Mac user, I experienced no problems with the installation, except one minor flaw --- it is almost ready to use out-of-the-box but there's no USB cable included, which was VERY disappointing since I had to go buy one AFTER the printer arrived!

Very good multifunction printer 2008-06-01
I have used the MP970 for about a month. It is easy to use and set up. The quality of printed photos is very good to excellent, expecially on Canon photo paper. The scanner and its driver are very easy to use and they operate efficiently. Scans are quick and accurate. I am using it with Paperport and have not had any compatibility issues. It also performs well as a copier, even if the computer is not turned on. The two paper trays are a nice convenience. Duplex printing is great for saving paper. The only negative, and it is a minor one, is that text is not as crisp as I have seen on other printers. Otherwise, I highly recommend this multifunction printer.
