So far I am very pleased with this printer. My son set it up for me and has used the Fax and said that it worked fine. What I like is the speed of the printing. I hope I am happy with it 6 months from now.

Canon Printer Exceeds All Expectations 2008-07-06
What a machine.....does everything as advertised. Fast, compact, does it all. No wonder it is rated number one.

Great Simple Copier! 2008-06-29
Easy to install and get it started. User friendly instructions for online and off-line usage producing excellent quality. I wished the USB cable supplied with it were a bit longer.

You cant beat this all in one printer 2008-06-27
I had my doubts about it because of the price. Its great though easy to use right out of the box. well i mean install the drivers then its easy as cake. Button layout nice and ots of function. Interface not confusing and very dummy proof scanns prints like a champ at the price. although i havent used the fax feature so take into consideration. i wouldnt trade this printer for any other one. its the poor mans caddie of printers.

Excellent All Around Printer 2008-06-20
I did a lot of research on AIO's, and this stood out in reviews, both by consumers and periodicals. I am very happy with the print quality and features. Documents and photos are very good. Bundled software is good as well, but I haven't delved into it too much yet.

When I originally hooked it up, it was through a 16' USB cable run through a 15' USB extension (total of 31'). It printed ok, but scanning would not work. When I contacted Canon through e-mail, they gave a few suggestions that did not work. They then offered to replace it with a refurb'ed unit. Before I did this, I called the 800 number given and spoke to a tech support rep (located in VA - nice to know it was not out-sourced). He easily identified the problem as too long of a USB attachment. He walked me through a network setup and it works very well now. The problem was that while scanning, there was too much data to go through that long of a cable (a USB problem, which is find USB cables longer than 16' are probably non-existant). Because of my office setup, I had to then use the network connection - works but not as fast.

Long story short - the tech support was outstanding. First, they were more than willing to replace the unit (albeit unnecessarily), and then a live person on the phone, from the US, quickly identified and fixed the problem.

Great printer for the money 2008-06-09
Good all purpose printer. A bit complicated to set up, but if you follow the instructions, eventually you'll get there. Still haven't figured out how to work the fax without getting the incoming phonecalls interrupted by the fax signal.

Functional but hard to configure network for Mac 2008-06-09
I must have bad printer karma, having used and scrapped printers from nearly every manufacturer. The MX700 initially performed well, but a minor LAN adjustment plunged me yet again into printer oblivion. I lost printer network access and have exhausted every resource and many hours trying to reconfigure the MX700. The documentation is confusing and incorrect, and forums are useless. I now must trek over to the printer, set my MacBook on the floor and grub around with the USB connection every time I print. Not what I paid for, and the lost hours of frustration exceed the printer cost 10-fold.

I am once again contemplating an Office Space remedy (see the movie if you miss the reference). Had I not already gone through the major competitors, I'd replace the MX700 in a sec and rate it lower. I am resigned to the fact that every printer is an exercise in frustration. My advice is to buy on sale the cheapest, least functional printer you can get by with and expect to scrap it in a couple of years.

Compromises 2008-06-04
It is fast and somewhat quiet and I like the smaller footprint. I am also pleased with the double-sided print prompting. The MX700 does not print both sides of the paper automatically but it does print the odd pages first and then prompts you and shows you how to put the pages back in the machine to print the other side. I also like the seperate ink tanks so that I only have to replace the ink colors that I use most often. I'd like to say the price was fair for the value but I haven't had another printer to compare it to at this price point. The print quality is not as good as our old HP Officejet G85 and we've had to compromise on some functionality. I would have rated it higher if I could figure out the fax ring, pick-up, whatever codes so that I could get a voice call or a message on my answering machine. We are also having a problem using our long distance calling card and being able to dial in access codes during the fax operation. This was no problem for our old G85. Either this machine will not accomodate our desires or we don't understand the directions (directions are sparse).
