Near Perfect Plasma 2008-02-15
Beautiful picture . This is our second Panasonic 42" Plasma. My biggest worry was getting delivery into the house and getting it up the stairs to the TV room. Picture had weird green dots first day and a month later . Cured itself the first day and then free tech swapped circuit boards when it reoccurred. Great service.

Power Supply Problem? 2008-02-14
I did a lot of research before I bought this tv, but being a newer model, could only compare it to similar models. I have had this set for about 3 1/2 months. I love the hd picture, upconverted standard dvds look awesome, and the sd picture is pretty good on most channels. However, I came home this evening, turned it on and nothing. The power light just flashes 7 times over and over. I called Panasonic and they are supposedly arranging for somebody to come out next week to look at it. We're watching a 13 inch RCA on a cardboard box. I saw another review on here with the same problem and as much as I paid for this, I'm going to be nervous about it from now on. I would highly recommend an extended warranty.

Great TV, 1080p is worth the extra few bucks 2008-01-27
Got a 720p and took it back the 1080p works better with the Blu-ray

1080p is the only way to go. This is a Great TV Rated high in Consumers Report

Plasma is better for just TV and not computer

Fantastic picture 2008-01-25
My wife and I bought this TV from BestBuy in November and are very pleased with it. It has a great picture, especially when playing Blu-ray DVD's. Some people complain about the anti-glare, but we haven't noticed any distortion of the picture. It sure beats the LCD in the bedroom.

The only complaint I do have is that when we purchased this TV, part of the reason we chose this model was because of the high contrast ratio of 10,000:1. If you go to Panasonics website, they have now changed that spec. to 5,000:1. Every other store still lists it as 10,000 which is WRONG, only the 720p models are this way! Panasonic just said it was a typo, but to me a pretty big one.

I still give this TV 5 stars because despite the contrast ration being less, it still provides more than enough. The picture looks great and you cannot go wrong with this unit.

SPECTACULAR 2008-01-09
Seriously, you cannot judge TVs by what you see in store, and every store is different with how they hook up their signals - hooked up my HD cable box to it last night, and saw the full1080i HD channels for the first time on my PZ77 - I was screaming in joy it was so beautiful!!! After some picture adjustments, it looks so fine and realistic, you feel like you can step into the screen and be there. And this is a techo-geek speaking. Wow is all I can say, after much research this Panasonic (and probably any panasonic plasma for that matter) was THE best 42" plasma for the money, hands down, I'm more than satisfied. As long as you use the best component and HDMI cables with good equipment, you will love what you see.

blank after a few months 2008-05-23
I bought this TV from Sears with extended warranty . I loved it until couple months later, It went blank after I turned the power on . I called Sears and the tech came 5 times to fix and he finally couldn't fix it . The problem has been going on for two months now and the broken TV is still at my house ...
Panasonic used to be a really good branch but not any more . I am very disappointed with the TV, Panasonic 1 year warranty service and specially Sears's 3 three years warranty service.
Will not recommend to any one .

Very satisfied. 2008-05-05
My wife and I are very pleased with this t.v. The unit fits beautifully in our family room, the footprint on the same cabinet our old t.v. was on. The sound is probably average judging from what they say about sound on other similar tv's. I decreased the treble to lessen the "sss" effect in some of the speech.

Got it at Sears because they had a horrible price! 2008-03-28
First of all let me say that this is a spectacular tv! I first wanted an lcd at first but when I saw the plasmas, they really caught my eye. After a lot of research I wanted the th-42pz700u but then saw it side by side with the th-42pz77u and was sold. The 77u didn't have the glare of the 700u thanks to it's anti-glare and anti-reflective surface. Plus the colors seemed richer in the 77u. So it went on sale at Fry's for $1199 and Sears had it for $1805. Sears has a price protection guarantee so I got it for $1199 that Fry's had if for PLUS $51 off of that for a total of $1148. Sears gives you 10% of the difference in the price so the huge price difference worked in my favor! Love it!

Very nice 2008-03-04
It took a long time but I finally made up my mind and bought one. I'm on Comcast with extended basic. The tv tuned in all the local HD feeds and they look great. I particularly like the PBS channel's HD feed, but all the major network's pictures are fantastic. The audio from the HD feeds is nice and full. Overall the experience when watching HD feeds is super. The standard channels look ok with the right screen setting, at least no worse than my old tube. The TV is a little slow to change channels when you input the channel directly, but it moves quickly when navigating up or down. The HD channels are all number dash number. For instance, ABC is on channel 7, but the HD feed is 7-1. To tune that station I have to navigate up from channel 7. Not a big deal but I cannot input it directly.
I hooked up a Phillips upconvert DVD player using a three dollar HDMI cable I also found on Amazon and the picture is fantastic. It was definitely worth the 60 bucks I paid at Sam's Club for it.
So, the picture looks great and the TV sounds good. I have the set in a very bright room and the antiglare does a nice job of eliminating reflections while not degrading the picture. My only regret is not getting the 50".

This is a great Plasma.I have been looking for more than a year for the right Plasma. My computer teacher convinced me to buy a Panasonic 42" PLasma HDTV.I've had it for over a month and it is absolutely fantastic.
