Can't stop watching. since there is nothing on tv anymore I don't know how I did without these all these years. Wonderful!!!!!!!!!
Excellent Series from TV's Golden Era 2008-05-13
Northern Exposure is a quirky, entertaining, funny, and excellently written series! This is a wonderful set to have if you are a Northern Exposure fan. Even if you've never seen the series before, you will most likely become one.
I wouldn't pay too much attention to the naysayers here that are complaining about lack of the original music from the broadcasted series. The truth is that the cost of including that music would make this set many times what it is priced now (which is affordable). You don't notice the difference, and when the music directly makes an impact in the show (i.e., when it really counts), the original is used.

I never got into it as a kid when it was actually on, but sometime after college it captured my imagination. Sort of a Zen voyage across America in one little frozen town at the tip of the continent. If you love Americana that's not treated with sap of WB line up, has genuinely good (and mostly unpretentious) writing, you'll probably love NE. It really is a little bit of everything, the only problem is that it is 110 episodes and like my friend put it if you watch one a night thats over three months right there. Still it's a great set. Enjoy.
Worth the wait! 2008-05-06
This is my all-time favorite show. I don't believe there has ever been a better ensemble cast or writers. The DVD's feature deleted scenes and outtakes you won't find anywhere else. So glad to finally have the entire series!!
Don't let the missing music scare you away. 2008-04-25
As die hard fans of N.E., this was a no brainer. This set is way cheaper than buying the individual years and all dvd's are single sided. The storage bag is an added bonus.
These DVD's are done well and are very good using an upconverting DVD player, kicking it up to 1080p.
As far as the missing music, we have not noticed any. Although we always loved the music the main reason we loved N.E. was the great story lines and characters. This is a great buy and again, don't let the possibility of missing music scare you away. If you loved the show for it's storylines and characters you will still love it.
Why Did They Do That?

Northern Exposure was the greatest show of its kind ever on commercial television; it was a superbly fine integration of plot, character, story, and music. Take away any of those, and it's not what it was, or should be. The producers of this collection have DESTROYED IT by replacing the excellent original music with absolute rubbish. Shame. Don't buy this collection, your disappointment will hurt forever.
I suspect it was done to save (read: make more) money. I'd have gladly paid the extra three dollars to keep this series as it was.
Shame, shame, and eternal shame.

Even though the original music has not been included, it does not take away from the show. It is worth buying.

I had forgotten what a great series Northern Exposure was. Great acting, great character development, quirky and always interesting! My wife and I are truly enjoying this set and it's all the more interesting because we lived in Alaska for three years while this show was on air.

I agree with the other reviews who have bemoaned the lack of original music on this show. That music was wonderful, memorable and important. It added immensely to the story and I think the series would be vastly better if it still had it. But it doesn't. That music seems to be lost and long gone.
And I just can't be unhappy with the series because it lacks one thing.
Because even without the original songs?
This is still a wonderful and unique show and worthy of viewing no matter what soundtrack it is set to.
Now, if they ever manage to recreate the original, with all the original music, I'll jump in line and be one of the first to buy it (for a second time). But, as it is, I'm thrilled just to have this series avaiable at all and encourage everyone to check it out. Just know that it's a little less than it was when it was first aired, but that it's still one of the most interesting shows ever on tv.
