Great MP3 player for the price
2008-07-02
Forget spending more for an iPod, this little player is awesome! Got this for my birthday and absolutely LOVE it! First of all, the sound quality is as wonderful as I would expect from Sony. The interface is easy to use for loading on songs and it took no time at all for me to learn to navigate the menus. I was worried about space but I have about 500 songs loaded with plenty of space left for more. I haven't had a problem at all with battery life, the manual says 33 hours and while I haven't kept track, I have gone a very long time without having to charge it up. The video screen is small but pictures come out crisp and clear and videos look great! All in all I think my husband made a great choice!
Just a few minor complaints. 1. I wish the USB connector was the same as the one used by my blackberry so I'd have one less cord to deal with. 2. The headphones that come with the unit have great sound quality but are really uncomfortable. 3. Wish that there were more accessories for this unit from other manufacturers. Sony puts a premium price on the docking stations and speakers so I would like to see some other manufacturers have accessories for this unit. Still, the pros definately outweight the cons!!
Good to go

This is a good product. I like the easy drag and drop feature. You don't need a any specific software to move songs on to this MP3 player. Nice and light weight...the only hit I have on it is that the screen is too small
SONY WALKMAN

I FOUND THIS PLAYER EASY TO LOAD AND EASY TO USE. MY WIFE WAS CONFINED DUE TO EYE SURGERY REQUIRING HER TO HOLD HER HEAD DOWN 24/7 FOR EIGHT DAYS. HAVING THE MUSIC TO ENJOY EASED HER DISCOMFORT CONSIDERABLY. SHE IS NOT VERY "TECNO" ORIENTED, BUT EASILY LEARNED TO UTILIZE THE VARIOUS FUNCTION/FEATURES OF THIS PLAYER.

I have been using this little device for almost two months. Its portable, easy to use, high quality sound, and I am really satisfied by this Sony Walkman video mo3 player. Also, the os is exactly same as the sony psp, so its very user friendly. However, it has some cons also(which everything does}. First, the video size is somewhat small, and it has no cover protection with it on the lcd. Secdond, the battery is dropping fast when watching video which also like psp.
imo, this device is better than an ipod because it's reasonable price and high quality with multible functions. Definitely recommended to anyone looking for a high-end mp3 player with a budget.
Awesome mp3 player!! Great job sony!!

i purchased this item at amazon jan-01 2008 and i have been using it until now (may 2008), so, i can give you a based opinion that will help you make your choice.
First, the sound quality is awesome, my friend has an ipod nano(4GB) which i used to borrow every now and then and definitely this sony player makes it eat some dust, the mids are pretty well shaped and the highs are bright and defined, although the lows could use a boost it is only due to the headphones included with the player which are kinda cheap, but that is the pattern every manufacturer is following these days. yes i did test it with higher quality headphones (sony indeed) and the difference is huge, concerning the lows only.
The portability is better than ipod too, the player is smaller(although not slimmer than ipod nano), lighter and attracts the looks for being unique. i guess the word to describe the looks is: sleek.
I join every other reviewer about the ease of use: the menu is intuitive and very easy too use, my wife always has trouble while interacting with electronics (even the microwave) and i didn't even had to explain her how to play a song or switch to picture gallery, she found out herself in a few minutes. in my case i changed the software language to spanish and there are no nonsenses or typos, it has 11 languages.
The battery life is second to none, even when i'm not counting the playback hours i still think they are more than 30 hours audio playback, it lasts so much that sometimes i totally forget to charge it and as the charge is performed by a USB port (no wall AC or car charger) you have no way to charge it on the go which can be frustrating.
The quality of the screen is outstanding and both the pictures and the videos look great, i would like to have a larger screen size for that quality but that would have made the player heavier and bulkier and that would've made me look somewhere else ;)i can store more than 4 hours of FULL quality videos (2 or 3 movies)in mp4 format at 384kbps using a free compressor and still keep a decent amount of songs!
it integrates beatifully with VISTA and WMP11 there are a few XP machines that doesn't recognizes it as an audio player but they always let you access it as a removable drive which is the main purpose.
want cons? well... they are not many but i will talk about a few i've noticed
1- the charge method is thru USB and the port in the player is not a standard mini-USB but a propietary one, so, you break/lose that cable and your done.
2- the software provided might be attractive to others but to me is a joke. Windows "sees" it without any drivers and the applications in the cd are lame. also, the napster subscription is worthless to anyone outside US.
3- could use better audio quality headphones, although they are durable their sound is not great.
4- like another reviewer said its true that it takes forever to fast forward a long song or any other audio file. but the video fast forward IS indeed better implemented. because i had tried it before with full movies.
Excellent product, 5/5 for Sony

Excelent product, sound is awesome, it kills ipod, sansa, zen, etc.. ; transfering music with Windows Media Player is very easy, also i've got about 900 songs in the 2GB version transfering music with WMP and converting it to WMA @ 64KBPS, that sounds like an MP3 @ 160KBPS.
Radio I think is probably the best you can fin in MP3 market, reception is great, inside and outside the city, not like other mp3's that just have a regular reception in the city and with not so good quality, S610's radio is the best, so much better than other mp3's radio obviously so much better that cellphones's radio.
Watching videos on it is awesome, I recomend imTOO video converter, once you get the video in .mp4 just drag'n drop in WMP and that's it.
Also I give a 5/5 in the battery life, so much better than sansa, ipod etc... .
Basically I have not foun any cons for it, definitely SONY is back in the game of portable audio, thank god there's no more sonicstage!, and that Sony has changed it's politics.
Battery replacement costs more than the Walkman player
2008-05-03
I have two older Sony Walkman Radio/Cassette players. I bought a S615F Walkman MP3 player because of the name and dependability of the older ones. I recently called Sony to inquire about how to replace the re-chargeable battery. I was told to mail it in for the battery replacement. Because the Walkman was past the warranty period, Sony was going to charge me $101.00 to perform the replacement. I paid $91.47 for the Walkman (new) over a year ago and it would be ridiculous to pay more for a battery than I paid for the player itself. The phone support person said the battery should last `years' and there should be no problem. Well, when my Walkman stops re-charging, it is going into the trash. I simply refuse to buy a NEW Walkman every time it needs a NEW battery.
Sony has a very poor customer support
2008-04-27
I had a firmware upgrade on my Sony player and it ruined it and the customer support were asking me around $120 which was more than the cost of the walkman although the firmware was downloaded from support.sony website.
I was very disappointed and had to finally live without a walkman
