Editorial Review
12 Disc Set : Ferocious. There has been no team before, and no team after, that was quite like the 1985 Chicago Bears. Each week they dominated opponents ? simply mashed them ? until, gratefully, the final whistle blew. Teams entered Soldier Field in fear and left in pain. It was that kind of season. On offense, the Bears would slam Walter Payton at you until you broke and then they?d go long to speedster Willie Gault down the sideline. On defense ? it was an avalanche of navy blue. Speed from the outside with Wilbur Marshall and Richard Dent and strength in the middle with Mike Singletary and William ?The Refrigerator? Perry. No where to run. No where to hide. For the first time, 12 of the original network television broadcasts from the Bears 1985 season are available in this exclusive box set. Witness the Bears dismantling the Dallas Cowboys, see their lone loss in a Monday-Night classic, and enjoy the Bears incredible post-season run ? where they showed a dominance that had never been seen before or since. The 1985 Chicago Bears ? one of the greatest seasons in NFL history ? yours to own on DVD. Buy yours today.

A good product that could be improved 2008-04-18
The video quality of the games varies. Some games are outstanding in quality (both Tampa Bay games, Green Bay, Washington, Minnesota) but some of the games are disappointing in quality. The Detroit game is especially bad. All of the games are out there and probably should have been included. Some of the editing is questionable and cutting off the introductions for the regular season games is unnecessary.

'Bout time!! 2008-04-07
PERFECT for every BEARS fan, esp. those of us who remember this historic season!!! As with most reviews of this product, only wish ALL of the games were included. The NFL will get it right someday!

great addition for any Bears fan 2008-03-27
I was kinda scared off of this set for a while due to the price, but once I got it, loved it. This isnt one of those NFL films highlight features, this is the majority of the games in full from the bears run to the super bowl, it is missing a few of the regular season games (due to inability or cost of getting the rights to those games). Its great to see the game in entirety to see how truly good they were (especially how dominant Dent was, he was on the qb almost every passing play, HOF '09!!!!), also it is neat to see the production w/o all bars & graphs and madden drawing on the screen, its actually kinda refreshing / so if your a hardcore Bears fan, this is a must

Da Bears 2008-02-25
I have been looking for this item for several years, so glad Amazon notified me it was available. Though it includes the best games of the 85 season I only wish it included the entire season.

Quality - 2 out of 12 isn't bad 2008-02-06
After reading the other reviews I was excited to get a copy of this boxed set. I didn't care about who was on what cover and whether or not Barry Sanders should be there -as some have complained, but I was more interested in the quality of the actual game footage used for these DVDs.
Having viewed each disc, I will admit it is a pretty sweet set of discs for any Chicago Bears fan to own. Although, I was disappointed to find that two of the DVD's (disc-7 @Dallas, and disc-9 @Detroit) contained horrendous copies of each game.
The Dallas game looks to be straight off of someone's old & weathered VHS cassette recording - grainy, blurry & scratchy at times, and the sound is low and muffled. As for the Detroit game, I think the footage here was taken off of an old beta tape from a "rabbit ears" antennae feed. Seriously, the video is scratchy, and it contains diagonal lines in the back ground. Almost like the antennae wasn't quite tweaked right to get a more clearer picture - for those of us who still remember that.
The footage on the rest of the discs is pretty darn good - both in video & audio quality.
This set brought back a lot of memories from that season, and a reminder of all the excitement that the '85 Bears brought to the city of Chicago that year. I enjoyed hearing Johnny Morris and Tim Ryan's voices again (from the local Chicago feeds), and it was especially great to see Walter Payton playing ball again. Bears fans, particularly those who watched this team, will definitely enjoy this series.

Finally!!!!! 2008-01-31

Great to Have these classic games!!! 2008-01-21
The only problems I have with these games is that not all the games are here. They include the 1 loss Da Bears had that year, why? I don't know. Not like I'm going to want to watch it. Also for some reason the screen doesn't stretch on my HDTV like a normal DVD should. So it has black bars on the sides. Other than that, a must have for any die-hard Bears fan.

How about those 1986 and 1990 Giants??!! 2007-12-20
I'm happy to see that finally the guys in the NFL are releasing full length games on DVD!!!!. I'ts a pitty that they couldn't get the deal for all the 85 Bears season. Now, everything seems to be great, BUT it would be a shame if the releases stop here with just a couple of games of 4 or 5 franchises. I bought right away the 2 DVD set Giants History and the 2 DVD set of América's Game (2 Giants Super Bowl winning seasons summary) But I would give away anything to have all the games that led to the XXI and XXV New York Giants Super Bowls!!

The whole truth about this release 2007-12-11
Other reviews are correct, however, the recording method in 1985 came from 1 inch and 3/4 inch video tape with a source from the truck outside of a stadium to the network mastering, usually used for (highlights) sports reports on the newscasts. This is not your usual NFL Films camera on the sidelines recording, but the way a game was viewed over-the-air. One game even has a local station (super) ID (I believe from West Virginia). In these days before FOX came along (about 6 or 7 years later with the broadcast rights to the NFC and decent music), games were loose (and it took forever for the audio person to add music to the bumpers before and after commercial breaks). This is why you'll hear the majority of the in and out cues of the announcers before a quick fade to black / fade back to picture. Think of those early days (if you're older than 40) when we bought our first ($500) VCR and hit the pause button when the breaks came, and unpaused when the breaks ended. That's what these games look like for the most part. Would I complain? Heck no. I've recorded games since 1985 (my first VCR) in SLP, later in LP speed, and recently remastered them to SP DVD, and this set looks better than what I could get from a VHS tape. They even have a ripple or two here and there, but for the true Bears lover (or collector of the Packer/Bear games such as myself), all I can say is 'da Bears' rock (and those memories of the worst Packer Bear game I've ever seen) are re-lived. Yes I'm a cheesehead that also lives in (cough cough) California, hoping to get the H### out of this state and back to where the real happy cows live! (grin)
PS: Don't lose sleep waiting for the other games of the season. Those would be (regional) games and not (network) games, which means the stations of that region would have to sign away their share in the profits of any kind of reissue. Forget it, they're as greedy as the music publishing companies (and why a lot of DVD releases come out with new theme music on tv shows). Only in the U.S.! Ya gotta love it!

Must Have Item!! 2007-11-25
I respectfully disagree with other reviews regarding quality. It is excellent. Keep in mind the technology in 1985 was not what it is today.

If you know a Bears fan interested in reliving history or a youngster interested in Bears history, this would be a great stcking stuffer.

Now some minor complaints 1) Quality could have been enhanced if each game were on 2 DVDs. 2) Very few chapters 3) The picture covers are grossly inaccurate - the Dtroit cover has a picture of Barry Sanders for gods sake!
