Good starter MP3 player for the kids

We got one of these for each of our boys, because we like be fair like that. I wanted to get them these because if they got lost or broken, we would not be out a lot of $$. Also, since we had more traveling planned, we wanted them to be able to listen to something different than everyone else, if they wanted. They have had them for about a year and they haven't lost or broken them yet, so it seems like it has been a good test of their responsibility. I also like to get the same thing for everyone as that helps me with keeping the number of different tech items I need to support managable. We got a red one and a black one so we could tell them apart.
Sony 2GB Walkman Video MP Player is ane xcellent product and value.

This is an excellent product - purchased one for my daughter at Christmas and she recommended I buy one for myself for walking and riding the bus to work - she was right - it is excellent and an amazing value product for the price.
Player is ok, Sony warantee not so great.

We bought one of these for my son last Christmas, and by the summer, it was not working. It would start a charge and then stop, and the computer wouldn't recognize it any more. Sony tech support diagnosed it as a hardware issue after about an hour on the phone. I called about the "limited warantee" (labor & parts for 90 days, parts only for 1 year). I found out that they would indeed honor the warantee, but the "labor" was $78, and I had to pay the shipping. So, it turns out that the "warantee" had me paying as much for "labor" as for a new Walkman!!! Beware - the warantee is really only for 90 days, realistically. I told them that before I'd pay $78, I could get a new one, and not have to wait for shipping.
Sony MP3 Player - Excellent! 2008-06-27
I bought the pink Sony 2GB MP3 Player for myself a couple of months ago. My husband had previously bought a junky little 1GB GPX player which he thought was great until he saw mine. After week upon week of his verbally envying MY player, I went ahead and ordered him the red Sony. Too bad we were out the $30 for his old player, but to him it was well worth it. He's as happy with his as I am with mine. Nice size, not too big, not too small, clear picture, lots of fun options, and my husband loves the FM radio option. We both keep our music in mp3 format, and when we "shuffle" music to the player, we get between 450 and 500 songs depending on the length. I don't really see why you'd need more, as taking songs off and putting new on is a snap. We usually change our playlist every couple of weeks. Excellent player for the value!
Love this little charmer! 2008-06-13
We bought one of these (black - 4g) for my son at Christmas and he loves his. I purchased the 2g version for myself and love the fact it has radio as well. There is PLENTY OF ROOM for the number of songs I will ever want and works perfectly for my needs. Love the Cherry Red color!

I have had this player for almost a month and LOVE it!
It is so easy to use and I love the color!
I have about eighty songs on it and downloading is so easy!
I actually prefer this to my friend's iPod Nano.

Good player, nice screen, good sound, glossy red color though 2008-04-11
I bought this for my brother and tested it our first for several days just to be sure that it's not DOA. Sound is excellent, the screen is clear and bright with a surprisingly good resolution for its size. I don't really like the volume switch on the side, but maybe that's because I'm just used to iPods.
I guess my only complaint would be the price which is expensive for a player of this capacity and very typical of Sony's overpriced products but I guess I was paying for Sony's reliability and good customer support (my impression anyway).
Also note that the color here is a glossy red, so I wouldn't recommmend it for a guy. I took a chance and risked that it would be like the nano's reddish anodized color, which it wasn't.
I'm still giving it four stars though.
Preferred over IPOD 2008-02-08
I purchased this little gem about 2 months ago instead of an IPOD, because it had the FM receiver option. I have never owned or operated an MP3 player before, but I found this one to be extremely user-friendly. To load your music, you simply connect it to the Windows Media Player (software disk is included0, then just drag and drop your music files. The battery life is unbelievably long -I've charged it maybe, twice? And it is soooo cute! The only thing I think they could have added is a "sleep" function that would turn it off after awhile. Other than that I love it!
