X2-5000+ Black Box - Overclocking
2008-04-26
Just bought this and stuck it in an Abit AN-M2 uATX motherboard. Sooo easy to overclock to 3.2GHz (multiplier set at 16x, stock voltage(1.35)). Running Kubuntu 8.04 with NVidia's commercial driver and a 7600GT card - cannot make this fail. Am ordering 2 more to replace my older X2-4200 CPU's
For a budget PC you get a good value
2008-04-09
Prior to this processor, I had an Athlon X2 3800. The difference between this one the the 3800 was very noticeable. My desktop loading time went down by a good margin and games were less laggy. For the price (bought at $99.99) there is no better processor than this. period. It will overclock up to 3.1 Ghz without modifying any other thing easily. In my case, i'm limited by the motherboard, which does not give too many options for overclocking.
Even with 1MB of L2 cache, i can run most benchmarks right on par with my friend's E6600, for which he paid well over $200 at the time. a really great step up from the base dual core models, and best choice if you are looking for a bargain pc.
Overclocker

Great product from AMD. I see they have gone all the way with some of their latest CPU (multiplier unlock) Get involved all.
Gran compra

Bajo precio, montado con un disipador Thermaltake AMG3 y se mantiene con buena temperatura, cuando se termine la garantía lo montaré en un equipo viejo y aprovechare el potencial de poder modificar su multiplicador
Best value available-- but a bit too weak
2008-03-31
This processor is a bit too weak to be used in gaming. In modern games like UT3, I find it bottlenecking me in many situations, even with overclocks to 2.9 (2.8 is about as far as I can get it go with any stability). Hearsay is that all 512 x 512 l2-cache Athlon models suffer poor in-game performance because of the 65nm architecture. My 6400+ is on its way, so I'll be able to test whether or not that is true shortly.
I'm putting this in my dad's system. It is an amazing performer for your dollar if you are planning on using the internet, word-processing, listening to music-- basically, anything but gaming.
And, in fact, it's DECENT at gaming. I guess I'm not complaining.
Excellent. Work Fine.

NO overheating. Great perform. This is a very very good middle class processor. 100% recommendable. Pay attention to the fact that it has no CPU FAN COOLER, or heat sink inside tha black box. At least not the black box i bought. But i bought it apart faster (the cpu heat sink and fan cooler) for a lower price.
The bets processor I have ever purchased

I overclocked this badboy to 3.2 gigs, with an artic cooler 64, and CPU volts at 1.3, on a DFI 790FX. For the price and overclocking ease, you just can't beat this thing.
GOOD OVERCLOK

My AMD 5000+ BE, Run to be 3.0 GHz with a low temperature.
Commentary: AMD 5000+ BE, Thermaltake Silent, Corsair xms2 800MHz with 2gb and ECS A780GM-A are an excellent combination with a low price.
Note: This AMD 5000 + Be is unstable to 3.2GHz, but at 3.0 runs very well.
Excelente Procesador

A black pearl shinning in my case

Pros: Over-clockable, runs at very low temperatures (mine at 33*C in 100% load) which means you can push it far. Great multitasker. 15% performance gain if you run it at 3GHz according to the various tests I had run, and this without even playing with the voltage. Very good at floating point.
Cons: No fan (this is to be expected since it's for OCing), I run mine with a cheap $25 Rosewell. 2x512 KB L2 seems a bit low for something made in 2007, this would inevitably affect performance due to latencies.
Other: If you don't plan to overclock, may be you should get the Windsor - it would perform better right out of the box and would come with the cooler. No Intel CPU could match the performance/price ratio of this baby. I am very happy with mine.
