VERY UPGRADEABLE - POWER SUPPLY SUFFICIENT!!!
2008-05-31
This is an EXCELLENT computer! This wasn't available through Amazon at the time I bought this....purchased at retail store. People, please put a video card in it!!! Of course the on board graphics is not stellar! Many gamers have concerns about power supply unit.....so let me tell you how I've upgraded mine. It comes with a Lite-On 300 watt PSU with maximum 19 amps on the +12volt rail. I have not touched this beautiful PSU as it is more than adequate for my needs!!! Yes, more than adequate for a good gaming card!....see below.
This is what I have added:
1)Linksys Wireless G card
2)Evga 8800GS 384 MB Card (Have even overclocked this to 693 core/1052 memory to see if PSU could handle it...no hiccups at all through stability tests, etc...)
3)LG Super Multi Blue Drive Blu-Ray Writer & HD-DVD Rom (Writes EVERYTHING but the now outdated HD-DVD's)
Did I mention it runs flawlessly?! I LOVE IT!!!
P.S. If it's in your budget, dont forget to pick up a Doublesight DS-263N Monitor from Amazon to go with it! Just got mine and it put the finishing touches on this computer!!! H-IPS LCD panel means excellent color reproduction at all angles and wonderful viewing angles! This is an excellent monitor for gamers, photographers, videographers, graphic designers, and those who want to turn this PC into their Bedroom FULL HD (Displays 1080p HDCP) TV!!! This is the least expensive H-IPS model available in the US. Buy the Wood Technology WT-RND12B Round TV Swivel Stand from Amazon as I also just did to swivel this beautiful 26 " monitor! Now with this whole computer package, I have the ULTIMATE High Definition Media Center Computer for my bedroom which of course is also my TV/BLU-RAY Player, Gaming System, etc, etc, ect...... Don't hesitate to buy any of the aforementioned products from Amazon! All are fabulous at great prices here!!!

I found that the Hp M8200n was everything i hoped to get in a computer and the price was excelent. I haven't had any problems at all with setup or with performance. It is as fast as i could ask for and installing hardware is a breeze. I believe i made a perfect choice and am well pleased with it.
Solid Video Editing Machine
2008-05-01
I bought this Desktop for personal use to edit video with Premiere and do a decent amount of photo editing with Photoshop. I've owned it for 5 months now and have had no problems thus far. I tried connecting and watching TV on the device and it works well. I'm planning to connect the computer to a 37" flatscreen and watch movies running from the computer.
Solid Machine, especially for the price. I would highly recommend it. The only negative part is that the keyboard is basic, but if you buy a nice one, you've got yourself a great desktop setup.
Still worth the money

At the first of the year I started shopping seriously for computers. Right away the HP media center PC's caught my eye. I would be able to hook up my Direct TV to my computer and watch, pause, and record my shows!! I first was interested in the slimline towers, the ones 1/3 the size. But they are not expandable and the tower is always hot. Then I found this one, the 8200. I read reviews and 2 things kept coming up. The system was loud, and it is not expandable to the 8gb with the current Vista 32 bit system that is included. As for the first, I found the system very quiet, moreso than my old Gateway computer. With the second, I didn't much care that I could only expand to 4 gb. But the great downfall of the computer is the Vista. I'm no whiz with computers, but it took me 2 days to put my system together, since I needed new drivers for just about every accessory I owned, and then Vista would tell me that some of the pieces of the drivers were not compatable. I even have a printer that I cannot use at all. In the near future I will probably install XP just so tht I can use some of my old stuff!!
Great computer

Very fast computer. Either our old one was really obsolete or this one is a speed demon. Unfortunate to say our old computer was about 5 years old and we were experiencing all types of problems. Great computer - highly recommend.

Buyer Beware

I bought this machine 3 weeks ago. It is very fast, the fastest desktop I have ever owned. The hard drive is a bit noisy but bearable. I was disappointed that there is no DVI output but I guess I could have researched a bit more. The thing that totally clamps my jaw is the line that says the machine is upgradeable to 8 gigabyte. No way! The CPU is 64 bit but they do not install the Vista 64 bit operating system (OS), it is a 32 bit system. I don't get it? With a 32 bit OS your can only install 4GB of memory and the system doesn't even see all of that. I confronted HP about this. Their website states directly that the machine is upgradeable to 8GB, no fine print, no asterix, nothing. I even emailed them to make sure that my computer could run 8GB. I was assured by the HP tech people that they verified the computer I bought was able to run 8GB of memory. After I read more about Vista, I emailed them again and of course got an answer from Pakistan or some such repeating to me exactly what I had just told them that the system would only run 4GB. All in all it is a good computer, very powerful but to get 8GB of memory (which I wanted for movie editing) you have to buy the 64 bit version of Vista. Not an upgrade, the full blown operating system and completely wipe your hard drive. Of course do not expect HP to give you the software for the programs which come with the machine to reload, they don't even give you the Discs when you buy the computer, not one.
HP - Never again!
2008-03-11
My last experience with HP several years ago. I don't recall the model, but it was so poorly made, that I soon switched to Dell (this was back when they still had customer service). I swore then never to waste my money on another HP product. When I could no longer put off an upgrade, I ran across the great price that Amazon was asking for this model HP. I read the reviews, did my homework, and decided to give it another try.
Combined with the problems that Vista brings with it, this may well be the worst computer I have ever had. One of the ports is dead. The sound card begins screaching loudly, and can only be shut off by shutting down the computer, or unplugging the headset. I presume that the problem of the system going into hibernation and staying there is a vista problem, which I can only remedy by killing the power and restarting the system. The litany goes on and on.
Is it really so difficult to but together a quality product? What good is a great price, when I must constantly fear the loss of my data, and deal with issues that should not arise.
My next purchase will certainly not be a HP.
Many Features

This computer is fast, and has many features! This is a real media computer. No problems with it thus far.
Happy with it so far
2008-02-29
I bought this computer about a month ago and am very happy with it so far. It is extremely fast on the internet and I have not encountered the problems that some people posted with Vista. My kid has been able to do the multimedia stuff he likes with MP3 etc and I am about to start transferring old Vinyl LPs and cassette tapes with the computer. The front RCA jacks make this a breeze. I have not had to call HP service so I can't add anything on that front. Only minor anoyance so far is that the computer itself is a bit noisy. If I had it to do over, I would buy this same computer.
