Editorial Review
For multimedia mavens on the go, the HP Pavilion tx1320us tablet PC is light enough to take anywhere and is a great resource for showing presentations thanks to its 180-degree swiveling 12.1-inch touchscreen display. Weighing just 4.2 pounds, the tx1325us delivers the same screen resolution and performance as a 15.4-inch notebook, but weighs over 2 pounds less. This stylish notebook introduces HP Imprint--a durable high gloss finish with an exclusive inlaid design that also incorporates touch-sensitive media controls for easy and quick access.

Protect your system and online accounts with your unique fingerprint for advanced security and peace of mind. The integrated 1.3-megapixel WebCam (and integrated microphone) provides easy video conferencing via VoIP and video IM chats. Optimized for mobile performance, it's powered by the 2.0 GHz AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-60 dual-core processor, which offers 64-bit computing capability and higher throughput for simultaneous computing tasks. Other features include a 250 GB hard drive, 2 GB of installed RAM (4 GB maximum), quad-mode Wi-Fi connectivity (802.11a/b/g/n), Bluetooth connectivity, multi-format/dual-layer LightScribe DVD+/-RW drive (which also burns CDs), ExpressCard slot, NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150 video/graphics card with 559 MB of shared video RAM, and Gigabit Ethernet.

It comes preinstalled with Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium, which includes all of the Windows Media Center capabilities for turning your PC into an all-in-one home entertainment center. In addition to easily playing your DVD movies and managing your digital audio library, you'll be able to record and watch your favorite TV shows (even HDTV). Vista also integrates new search tools throughout the operating system, includes new parental control features, and offers new tools that can warn you of impending hardware failures.

The Basics

Screen, Video & Audio
The 12.1-inch LCD screen can swivel 180 degrees, providing optimal angles for viewing DVD movies and business presentations, and it folds flat for working in tight travel spaces such as airplanes or trains. It has a 1280 x 800-pixel resolution. Video is powered by the integrated NVidia GeForce Go 6150 graphics/video card, which provides up to 559 MB of video memory shared with the system memory. It features NVidia's PureVideo technology--which provides great picture clarity, smooth video, accurate color, and precise image scaling for video content--and full support for Microsoft DirectX 9.0 for stunningly realistic cinematic effects for all DirectX-compatible applications.

The Altec Lansing speakers provide exceptional sound, and a pair of stereo earbud headphones with volume controls is included. You'll be able to privately share enjoyment of multimedia with a friend via the dual headphone jacks. One of the headphone jacks is also compatible with SPDIF digital audio output for home theater surround sound.

Networking, Connectivity & Expansion
Be ready for the next platform in wireless connectivity with this notebook's integrated quad-mode Wi-Fi chip. Based on the draft 802.11n Wi-Fi specification, it offers up to five times the performance and twice the wireless range as existing 802.11g wireless. It's also backward compatible with 802.11b/g networks (commonly found in home routers and Wi-Fi hotspots) as well as 802.11a networks (which has a higher throughput, but more limited range--great for closed office environments). You also get super-fast wired connectivity, with a Gigabit Ethernet port (10/100/1000).

With the Bluetooth connectivity, you can communicate and synchronize with Bluetooth-enabled peripherals such as PDAs and cell phones. This notebook includes a next-generation ExpressCard 34 card slot (though no standard PCMCIA slot), which lets you take advantage of thinner, faster, and lighter expansion cards for even more advanced wireless, networking, storage, and security features. You get a good offering of connectivity options:

Operating System
Windows Vista Home Premium is the operating system for users with advanced computer needs, and it includes all of the Windows Media Center capabilities for turning your PC into an all-in-one home entertainment center for watching DVD movies and accessing your digital audio library. You can also use Windows Media Center to record and watch your favorite TV shows (even HDTV) and to access new kinds of online entertainment content. Computers that include Windows Vista Home Premium and an auxiliary Windows SideShow display will also allow you to access key data even when your computer is off. It is also easier than ever to share files between other PCs in your household and to manage your laptop computer settings to more securely connect via Wi-Fi.

Every edition of Windows Vista provides the essential tools and technologies to help protect you whether you are browsing the Internet, connecting to a wireless network, or just reading e-mail. All editions of Windows Vista include new tools that can warn you of impending hardware failures long before you have lost any important personal data. And, all Windows Vista editions include parental control features that allow you to manage and monitor your family's use of games, the Internet, instant messaging, and other activities.

Could be better, but great wrt its price 2008-02-12
The battery is big and its volume goes further outside of the case of the tablet PC. The fingerprint reader is on the screen and sometimes unintentionally one can press on it. This makes it harder to use when the screen is rotated 180 degrees to work in "real book" mode. The fingerprint reader should be placed which won't be a problem while using it as "real book".

Other than these 2 disadvantages, it is a satisfying product with respect to its price. If you plan to buy a PC just to read, e-mail or make small edits while traveling, then buy an ultra small PC like Samsung or Sony has.

Tres bon!! 2008-02-08
I needed a laptop primarily for browsing the internet, as well as managing my iPod, iPhone and photos. I've always wanted a small laptop as I felt those 14 inch and above ones to be closer to desktops. I've always loved tiny gadgets.

This tablet by HP seems made just for me; 12.1 inch screen (which is not as tiny or difficult to read as one might think), 2GB RAM, 250GB hard drive (more than enough for me at this time), and about the size of an A4 sheet. Oh, and it's not too hard on the eye too (especially those neon blue Star Trek Enterprise flight deck-style lights, and the glossy black enamel-like finish, which can be used as a mirror when the battery dies).

It comes with a wafer thin, extra tiny remote which powers up the laptop, as well as manages media files; music and movies (play, stop, pause, rewind, etc). I must comment, I think the time it takes to boot is a bit too long, but it's nothing I can't live without.

The screen can swivel around through 180 degrees (perfect for presentations, or just hiding what you're doing/watching from the nosy person beside you) and lay flat to become a touch screen. Note, the touch screen needs calibrating first, or else you'll be touching way off target. There's a stylus with a slot towards the front right side where it slots and clicks into place. I find the string (to attach it to the laptop) dangly and gets in the way so I'd rather not use it. In touch screen mode, you can input data by writing with the stylus. A writing pad appears, or you could use some "post it" notes.

Other features are slots for 5 memory card types (Xd, memory stick pro, memory stick, MultiMedia and Secure digital), DVD/CD drive (writes both, as well as plays multi region DVDs, I don't experience the lag some have complained about), Webcam, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and IR connectivity, and operates on Windows Vista Home Premium (which so far, I'm having no problems with). The slightly ribbed touchpad is very user friendly, and there's a dedicated track bar to the right. It takes about 1 and a half hours for a full battery charge (and the neon blue light at the power cable connection point is a nice touch). The speakers are quite good, better than on most other laptops (especially once you've adjusted the equalizer to your taste).

A few cons. The laptop does heat up quite a bit during use, and the battery lasts about 1 hour 20 minutes. However it comes with a spare, and there are a few battery life extending tricks; don't use laptops connected to the mains all the time (alternate between battery alone, and mains), let the battery discharge fully about 4 times, and don't store it fully charged for long periods of time without use, (store it half charged if you won't use it in a bit).

Anyway, I still haven't yet explored the full potentials of this lovely machine, but I know I'll have fun doing so, and will amend this review if needed with additional information. So far, it more than meets my needs. I hope this helps you.

BATTERY AND WEIGHT- the 2 big problems about this machine 2008-02-07
THIS IS A GOOD COMPUTER, EVERTHING WORKS FINE BUT I EXPECT THAT THE BATTERY COULD WORK BETTER...AND WORKS ONLY 2 HOURS...AND THATS IT.

AND IT'S A HEAVY LAPTOP...ITS A BIG LIE THAT WEIGHT LIGHT...

take care when you buying a laptop, the best think is take a look, before buy...

Great versatile "tablet" PC 2008-02-04
I bought this PC on a whim after seeing an open box deal at Office Depot for $650. I had to bite on that price. I was really intending on returning it (I am a MacBook user). I have to say, after getting it fully set up, I am loving it. So much that I've listed my MacBook on eBay. No, I am not saying this PC is better than the MacBook, but b/c I got it for so cheap and my MacBook will sell for ~$1200 on eBay, I figured I'd pocket the additional $600 and get another Mac when this baby dies.

So far I love it. Yes, it does get hot, but nothing outrageous. It's pretty cool to swivel the screen around and jot notes on it or read eBooks. Bluetooth works great and lightscribe was a pleasant surprise. In all, for just over $600 bucks, I got a steal.

Vista isn't that bad, BTW. People on the internet are dramatic.

I would recommend this machine, even at Amazon's asking price. The specs are incredible for a 12.1" tablet.

Very Happy 2008-01-31
I've read a lot of reviews about this machine and have read some pretty scathing remarks about the computer, the OS, the touch screen, etc. But I have to be honest, this is probably the best machine I've ever owned. The touch screen works great. It was so simple to calibrate and I only had to do it once; same thing with the stylus. If I'm just browsing the internet or typing a paper I can get 2-3 hours easily out of the battery. Vista runs fine with no hang-ups or issues (so far). The machine is super quiet, and the fan rarely runs full tilt. I read a lot of complaints about heat, but even when playing games or doing demanding tasks like video publishing, I can still keep in on my lap with no pain. Overall, this is a great computer. The only issue I have is video graphics and processing. Now, granted it's a tiny laptop that's not designed to play all the latest and greatest games. And it does hold it's own, but I don't think it lives up to the 559mb video memory it claims. When I checked the system in Vista it said I was running like 330mb or something like that with 64mb dedicated and the rest shared. But other than that, this thing is a dream. So when you read these reviews, take it with a grain of salt. Some people are very upset, and some people like me absolutely love it.

Not so great 2008-05-09
This computer has the problems of battery life, and a weird screen look, which have been mentioned and explained elsewhere.

Pros: The color depth on the screen is nice. The size and form are great. The overall features are good. Wifi and bluetooth work well.

Cons: None of this stuff works like it is supposed to. The fingerprint reader software is clunky and slow. Vista is garbage. The computer runs incredibly slow, and hot. The machine is incredibly prone to crashing. It might not give you a blue screen, but expect programs to crash consistently. Tech support will dissapoint you.

I bought this because it was cheap and full of features. It fit my size/price factors for a school laptop. With the dual core processor and 2GB ram I thought i'd get the bonus of a powerful machine too. I was wrong this thing is slooooooowwwww.

My 5yrs old dell with a p4 and 512mb ram will do more than this thing will. It also performed better than this computer in 3Dmark testing.

No help 2008-03-10
Problem- POST not recognizing memory on start-up. Computer-Pavilion still under warranty was shipped to Texas, Irving repair facility free of charge. When it was recieved back, after 45 min use stopped recognizing memory again with the same sound on start up. The paper work indicated that memory chip DDR2 PC4200 was replaced. After 3 hours with Indian technician on the phone and pulling out memory chips one by one, the defective chip was found and pulled out. The promise from the tecnician and his supervisor was given that replacement memory chip would be sent out to me. 3 days later trying to find out the status of the order case # 800892**** information from another supervisor was given that nobody is going to send me a replacement chip because it's outdated and (or) that is not in their power. After attempt to find out the name of the person we were speaking to, the phone call was disconnected.
Original order # ***056-01.
During the conversation I was explaned that for the reason of me buying outdated computer I will not get any repairs done by HP (unavaliability of parts) and I better to pay for additional waranty, so I at least will get their advice.
This is the last HP product that I bought.
Regretfully, formerly proud owner of Packard Bell and Compaq, asking forgivness for assumption that the product under the warranty should be fixed by manufacturer.

Not good for customised application 2008-03-03
I bought this notebook in replacement of my Dell Inspiron 14.1 inch which is working absolutely fine.

In this notebook I have a 250GB of hard disk. I want to partition the hard drive as per my requirement. Upon talking to HP customer care they said you are not given an option to re partition the har drive. The operation system and driver CD they provide does the partitioning automatically. So I would never suggest this laptop (any HP laptop) for people who wants to customise their notebook.

The screen is 100% Scratch Proof but not the CASE 2008-02-25
I am regretting buying this product.
My laptop has a lot of scratch on the screen frame and the case for my 2nd month of using.
HP Designer should use there common sense that laptop are mobilized device that people use to bring anywhere and they should focus on the durability of this device.
Never buy any shiny products from HP if you hate scratches.
I am wondering if there is a way I could refund or exchange my product after buying my laptop last November 2007.

Affordable Excellence 2008-02-15
I have had this laptop for over a week now and so far I am very pleased with it. I use it with OneNote and it allows me to take notes in class. The handwriting recognition software does a pretty good job at recognizing my writing. It makes a few mistakes, but it suggest alternatives when it does and usually you can tap on one of the alternatives and you are good to go.
