Excellent Laptop 2008-04-06
This is a wonderful laptop. My husband gave it to me for Christmas so he could take over the 17" Dell Inspiron so we could compute in bed together.

It's fast and smooth and looks great, too. It's easy to transport which is one of the reasons for my husband giving me this. To be fair it isn't perfect, but that mostly for the following reasons:
1. the battery connection is on the right side of the computer which can interfere with using the mouse.
2. I agree with the user who said the touchpad can be touchy, but that happens on the other laptop as well and I think it's only because this is smaller
3. Be sure to delete the software you don't want since Vista is memory hog. I deleted Norton immediately and put on Avast & Adaware
4. the screen is a little difficult, but it's the next wave and that's ok since most of the time there isn't much of a problem.

I sometimes have wireless problems and I can't tell how much is our wireless and how much is the laptop. It's gotten better.

I never use the battery so that's a non-issue.

To sum up, it's a great computer with a few minor flaws that can be inconvenient. The videocam is great though!!!

DV2620US Laptop - excellent overall 2008-03-26
I purchased the DV2620US in January to get a lighter, smaller laptop that could handle a lot of photos and video. At 5.4 pounds, the sleek unit is far lighter than my 15.4" Compaq. The dual-core processor speed is great - I have been able to process heavy-duty forensic analysis in minutes, while my classmates machines took up to an hour. No problem whatsoever with the wireless radio or bluetooth. I lug this laptop around daily in a backpack, and it shows no ill effects. The firewire interface enabled quick uploading of digital video, the DVD burner reliably produced the finished video productions. The SD slot is great for quickly uploading everyone's photos - under a minute to upload 70 photos. The BriteScreen makes the most of the 14.1 inches, and the photo slideshows and videos look crisp and clean. The mini remote control that fits into the expansion card slot is pretty clever. I am totally satisfied with the DV2620US laptop.

No help 2008-03-10
Problem- POST not recognizing memory on start-up. Computer-Pavilion still under warranty was shipped to Texas, Irving repair facility free of charge. When it was recieved back, after 45 min use stopped recognizing memory again with the same sound on start up. The paper work indicated that memory chip DDR2 PC4200 was replaced. After 3 hours with Indian technician on the phone and pulling out memory chips one by one, the defective chip was found and pulled out. The promise from the tecnician and his supervisor was given that replacement memory chip would be sent out to me. 3 days later trying to find out the status of the order case # 800892**** information from another supervisor was given that nobody is going to send me a replacement chip because it's outdated and (or) that is not in their power. After attempt to find out the name of the person we were speaking to, the phone call was disconnected.
Original order # ***056-01.
During the conversation I was explaned that for the reason of me buying outdated computer I will not get any repairs done by HP (unavaliability of parts) and I better to pay for additional waranty, so I at least will get their advice.
This is the last HP product that I bought.
Regretfully, formerly proud owner of Packard Bell and Compaq, asking forgivness for assumption that the product under the warranty should be fixed by manufacturer.

Good Performance but Heavy Heating and Not that great display 2008-02-11
I have been using this HP laptop for a year now (actually mine is 1GB RAM and 120GB HDD)and it has certainly been great. The Performance is rock solid. Works fine, does not hangs, I can run multiple applications, DreamWeaver, Office 07 Word, Fireworks, Adobe, and Firefox browsers all at the same and the system does not slow down. So Performance I would say it has been excellent.

On the Down side, the things that drives me nuts is HEATING! AMD processors are know for heating and this laptop has been poorly designed with only one small fan outlet which is ridiculously irrelevant for the heat that is being generated by the AMD processors.

But for the price.. this laptop is a good buy..

great computer, great price 2008-06-29
I bought this computer 8 months ago and downgraded it from vista to XP. Everything is perfect so far, but keep in mind that this is not a very powerful computer, so if you want it to play graphically heavy games or stuff like that this is not a good choice for you. perfect to play movies, music, and to work on it (ms office, etc.) and to browse over the internet as well.

If you want to keep vista it may be a good idea to buy another 1gb ram memory, for better performance, but if you downgrade it to XP like me it performs much better just as it is, however, HP doesn't provide support for this downgrades, so it might be a little bit difficult if you are not experienced.

AS IT COMES I'D GIVE IT 4 STARS, BUT IF YOU DOWNGRADE IT IT'S JUST GREAT 5/5

Good Laptop, 2008-05-10
After 2 months with this laptop I don't have any complains, although it's true that the memory is not enough that's easy to fix. I think that it heats up a lot sometimes, but my girlfriend's MacBook does the same. On the other hand, it's very light and elegant (lighter than her MacBook but not as fancy as hers), its size it's perfect, the touchpad it's very annoying but I'm getting used to it. I like it very much it's exactly what I was looking for

Nice kick for great price 2008-05-05
I own this laptop (dv2610us) for about six months now and I am still happy with my purchase. Sure there were some little problems here and there but nothing crucial. For instance, there are times when the battery monitor does not come up on the screen as it should (Notification Area of the Taskbar). To solve that issue I power down, remove the battery and re-insert it again. I do this only when the System Icon for Power is not activated for my to check it.

The most alarming problem I've had was that the keyboard and touch pad was not working at all !!! To survive I used an external mouse with the on-screen keyboard to put in my password, etc. This issue was not HP's fault however, it had to do with an software upgrade (was it the BIOS ? can't remember) and a friend of mine remedied that problem.

All in all I do enjoy using this laptop and am glad I didn't go bigger or smaller. I friend of mine has the 15.4" version but to me that one feels like a waste of space and added weight (although small difference).

The preloaded games are kinda cool as well, as a means of de-stressing. I loaded CSI Miami game on it as well it managed it alright. Smooth, really better than I expected. No hiccups when I use the wireless but I haven't used that frequently, most times I just plug in the Ethernet cable and zoom zoom.

For the price I payed plus free shipping, this laptop definitely gives a good kick.

bad laptop 1 yr wasted 2008-04-23
Well i bought this laptop before going to college and on paper it was a great buy for the price. probably the cheapest dualcore for the perfect 14.1 in screen with webcam and a cool looking glossy finish. But the first time i booted the system, the thing froze on me but i credit that to vista and its numerous problems. A few weeks after buying when the circuit city return period had finished, thelaptop started heating like crazy. The fans seemed to be working but the laptop was like a heater. Then the webcam stopped working and the inbuilt microphone never worked. Had it sent to hp after 3 months for repairs and got the laptop back just like i had sent it. sent it back again a few months later, same deal. this time with a torrid experience with customer support where they kept me on hold constantly and losing my ticket number and record. sent it again 3rd time cuz the display stopped working and waited 45 days only for hp to send the laptop to my home address when i explicitly told them to send it to my college address. It would be fine if the freaking thing was fixed though. apart from the display the whole thing still fumed like a grill. Soon the cd drive stopped recognizing media, which is when i called HP seeking a replacement. The technical support told me that the case managers would call me withing 24 hours which did not happen for 2 weeks after i had inquired twice. finally i called the case managers myself after getting their number. The only good thing and the reason i give it a 1 star is that hp will replace my laptop. Im hoping that the laptop i had was a faulty unit and its not the whole dv2000 series that's screwed over.

Overall good but 1 GB RAM not enough 2008-04-15
I bought this for my daughter, a university student. Overall she is quite pleased (the looks, the touch, the screen, the size, etc). The only thing she complained about was the speed, which I think is due to shortage of memory, 1 GB RAM, considering it uses Windows Vista. I will have to buy more memory, but the trick is you cannot add 1 GB to the existing one. You have to throw the existing 2 x 540 MB away and install 2 x 1 GB.
