Turbo Tax - Federal

Excellent product. As a continuing user, all data transferred easily from last year and I completed a relatively simple return in about 2.5 hours, including a Sched D and a 2555. Have used Turbo Tax for over fifteen years and have been completely satisfied in all respects. Taxes don't get any simpler.

The basic program is, as ever, just fine, but the downloading of a second state did not work. Very frustrating.

This is the first year that I bought Turbo Tax. Some life changes meant that this would be the first time I had ever itemized and I was a bit nervous. The software is very well designed, intuitive, and easy to use. It walks you through everything and tells you what information you need to enter. Almost makes doing your taxes fun! The deduction section seems very thorough and there is even a link to a web site that has information on fair market values for donated items such as clothing. Some caveats - if you want Turbo Tax to do your state taxes make sure you buy the version that includes state taxes. I personally did not want the state taxes as in my state they are a breeze to do and the state allows you to submit online for free. Also, keep in mind that to submit your completed taxes electronically through Turbo Tax you have to pay an additional fee of $17.95. I recommend you just print out the forms from Turbo Tax and mail them. Overall, I recommend Turbo Tax as easy to use and a way of making sure you don't make mistakes. I probably won't buy it again, though. Now that I have done one itemization I think I can handle next year using this year's taxes as a template and reference.

Quality of Intuit's products is deroriating

I used to like Intuit's products back in the late 90s but I can't trust them anymore. I'm running TurboTax on Max OS X and it crashes on a regular basis. Although I save my return after every step, I sometimes forget and have to re-enter info.
Then there was an error saying something like line 32 on form 851 must the sum of lines 29 thru 31 (this are not the exact line numbers and form number). Well, thank you very much Intuit for not being able to add up numbers for me correctly and for such an informative error message. _AND_ unless the TurboTax checks off all errors it won't let you view forms. So I had to go to the IRS site, download the form, find out what those lines were supposed to mean and finally fixed it. This is not what this software should be about.
I'm yet, to submit my return since I'm checking everything line by line. Will definitely consider alternatives next year.
(P.S. I gave up on Quicken for Mac long time ago)

Great Product

Great product, it takes all of the worry out of what can be a very tedious task, I highly recommend using this product! I am an accountant and have been for over 20 years. I still use this product to prepare taxes for my clients and my family. It is a great price and cannot be beaten for what you get! This software comes highly recommended by me!

TurboTax Deluxe Federal Only review

It's now about 6 weeks since I did my taxes, I can't remember a lot of details too well. My general impression is that it was pretty good. I bought it because it there was a Federal Only choice which happened to suit me. My state taxes are simple and I can do them manually without making mistakes. I liked TurboTax better than Tax Cut which I had used in 2005 and 2006.

I was favorably impressed by its ability to create a 1040X, which I needed as I received an amended 1099MISC after sending off my return the first time.

TurboTax seems to think you're always connected to the internet and always wants you to check for and download updates. I found this troublesome as I am paranoid about spyware. When doing taxes, I first physically disconnect the internet connection. On finishing the session, I ZIP archive the tax file with password encryption and delete the tax file itself before reconnecting to the internet.

Another thing is that TurboTax defaults to printing to Microsoft XPS Document Writer, whatever that is. Whatever it is, I can't use it. I would print to a PDF file and print that out. (I would not dream of filing electronically as I don't see how it can possibly be secure. Who knows what happens to it on its way to the IRS)

I advise you to select the pages you print, otherwise you'll waste paper. There's extra stuff you don't need like a page congratulating you for successfully completing your return.

I have used Turbotax for Many years; probably over 10 years.

I favor TurboTax because I have used it for many years. No reason to try anything else.

Turbo Tax

The program was simple to use and seemed to be very thorough as it asked questions and directed me to different areas and tax forms based upon my data. However, there was a "glitch" with a 401K distribution. The amount was not listed properly. Otherwise the amounts and bottom line were exactly what H & R Block came up with. ( I was worried about the return and had it looked over.)

Will buy again

I never had a problem with Turbo Tax and I have been using the software for 3 years now.
