M A G I C al film
2008-05-21
This first Harry Potter film is the best to date. Chris Columbus stayed true to the book and gave us a clean, golden image of Hogwarts and the rest of Harry's new found world of magic. (From the third film on the image is old, in ruins, dark, dirty and untidy and far from the actual books. How can the 7th book be filmed when everything and everyone important to the plot and ending has been left out?) Enjoy this first film and fill your mind with the true image of the books.
Do you have a wizard in training in your house?
2008-05-03
For those of you who have wizards and/or witches in training in your house you cannot go wrong. Perfect for younger kids as the violence and scary quotient is very low. Plus its lots of fun for adults to watch too. But of course like any other great film after the 50th time viewing in one week this can get tiresome fast.
Sorcerer's Stone Looks Incredible on Blu-ray
2008-04-14
This movie looks so good on Blu ray. It was almost like watching it for the first time. I highly recommend the Blu-ray version. I watched on PS3 and it looked supurb on my 50" Plasma. Definitely worth owning.
HD DVD purchase
2008-04-05
Be careful to read the fine print - I bought this and don't have a HD-DVD player! Didn't realize my DVD player wouldn't be able to read it. My bad.
We enjoyed the first two harry potter movies
2008-03-27
We do not have children so we were looking for entertainment. This is a great pick because it was made as interesting and adventurous as the book. You get to know a little bit about Harry and his family. And, how he fits into a destiny. Adventure begins. We enjoy pulling it out and watch again. Maybe you will too.
Blu-Ray version. Cut to bits...
2008-07-12
I thought that if I bought the Blu-Ray version that it would be better than the regular DVD and, since my old DVD disappeared, I ordered this. Anyway, I was very wrong. I noticed several scenes that were missing or truncated, even from the short bit of the movie that I watched on TV a few days ago. They are in the "extras", but I expected a bit more. Some scenes also looked a bit grainy on my HDTV. I am disappointed.
Sorcerer's Stone is a classic
2008-06-23
HP and the Sorcerer's Stone is the first and best! We learn about the boy, Harry, and his history living amongst muggles. The magic in this movie is all the wonderful cgi effects, and I prefer this actor's Dumbledore to his replacement (yes, I know the original actor passed away). THE HD DVD video has amazing clarity. I can watch this movie again and again!
Classic Movie from the Present
2008-06-23
Loved the book so I had to watch the movie over again. All the magic starts here and it's just the beginning to a whole new experience if you intend to see all the sequels that follow.
Very faithful to the novel.

I wasn't expecting much from Hollyweird considering their track record on making books into movies.
I walked away VERY impressed.
A very faithful adaptation.
Nothing major is left out and all the characters are perfectly cast.
My favorite?
Alan Rickman as Snape.
Could he be any more perfect? No.
A must see for all Potter and non Potter fans alike.
Great book-to-movie adaptation

"You're a wizard, Harry." -- Hagrid
I first saw this movie in cinemas when it came out. I had read all of the books released at the time and I thought it was a fantastic adaptation. There was great casting for Richard Harris as Dumbledore, Ian Hart as Quirrel, Maggie Smith as McGonagal, Alan Rickman as Snape, Daniel Radcliffe as Harry, Rupert Grint as Ron and Emma Watson as Hermione. The screenplay was beautifully written by Steve Kloves. J.K. Rowling must be proud. Colombus did fantastic work as a director too.
