Editorial Review
It isn't always easy to tell if your child has an ear infection--especially since symptoms can vary from child to child. But if left untreated, ear infections can cause hearing loss and even learning disabilities. EarCheck Middle Ear Monitor helps takes the guesswork out of ear infections by indicating the likelihood of fluid in your child's inner ear--a key sign of ear infection. Designed for children six months old and up, this monitor helps parents know when to consult the doctor.

Reliable Results In Seconds Earcheck is designed for a child's sensitive ears, sending pleasant sound waves (chirps) down the ear canal. To use the monitor, first have your child sit upright. Then place the tip of the EarCheck in the outer canal. Press the scan button to obtain a reliable reading and, in seconds, the echo of the sound is analyzed to determine the presence of middle ear fluid.
The easy-to-read light sensor indicates when to consult a doctor. If a child is diagnosed with an ear infection, you can monitor whether the fluid is gone and the ear infection is clearing up.
Designed With Physician Accuracy
Earcheck features the same patented proven acoustic reflectometry technology used by thousands of physicians since 1997 and a technique recommended by the American Academics of Pediatrics and Family Physicians. Earcheck has also been FDA cleared and UL approved for your peace of mind.
Earcheck is not indicated for children with ear tubes (ventilation tubes), water in the outer ear, known perforation or rupture of the ear drum, facial or ear deformities, visible drainage of pus or blood from the outer ear, or children under 6 months old.

You will regret this purchase!

Do not purchase this item....you will waste your money. My son has had several bad ear infections and the earchek did not catch ANY of them. I would understand if the infections weren't that bad, but they were. It was still reading no fluid everytime.....It has never said anything but no fluid. It does not work at all.
Unreliable

If you need to monitor ear fluid, I think it may be more useful to get a traditional otoscope and learn how to interpret what you're seeing (there are a couple available to the general public). My unit arrived in non-working condition. The customer service rep. overnighted a replacement - and the new unit works. However, we've had occasion to see an audiologist & doctor and compare notes with the results the product gave. The results are inconsistent. I had a green light on the unit the same day my son showed fluid problems via video otoscope. I know a hearing/education professional who said she stopped using this unit because it was inaccurate. I asked my pediatrician what she thought - and she said, "red does mean there is definitely fluid, but green and yellow aren't necessary accurate." So, I wish I'd saved my money. Save yours or buy an otoscope that let's you see into the ear and interpret the results yourself. Good luck with those ears!
Is worth the money!!

I received my earcheck and it quit working right away so I called the company and was told it was a manufacturing defect and they sent me a new one immediately (I had it in 2 days).
My 9 month old has been a little cranky today so I checked his ear and it showed to monitor (#2) and the other ear showed see doctor (#3) sure enough he had an ear infection! I think it is money well spent! Especially for this mom of 4!
Waste of money

I purchased this enthusiastically, thinking it would be beneficial in determining when to bring my 15 month old to the doctor for futher evalutation of ear infection/ear fluid issues. However, the unit gives different readings almost every time it is used, making the information relatively worthless. Furthermore, the unit did not ultimately influence how or when I brought my child to see the pediatrician. The bottom line is, when it comes to ear infections, I made decisions on the symptoms exhibited by my child (fever, pain, etc.), not by the unit.
UNSAFE...Please don't trust results! Doesn't detect ear infections

I have a 2 and a half year old son who has had trouble with ear fluid off and on since he was a baby. It has affected his speech, although speech therapy is helping him to be much more intelligible. I was so excited when I found this device. I thought it would help me to not go to the doctor all of the time to have his ears checked, saving me time and money.
I thought something was going on with his ears, but the earcheck gave him a 1, which is the best reading you can get...no fluid. I checked him twice daily for a week, everytime a 1. I finally took him to the doctor because I thought he might have a secondary. Turns out he had ear infections in both ears. I got home from the doctors, checked both ears with the earcheck, and he still had a 1. This product gives you a false sense of security that your child has no ear infection or fluid. Undetected fluid can cause so many problems to your child's hearing and speech. Please don't buy this product...it causes much more harm than good!
accurate if used correctly

I have found this device to be very accurate if used correctly. Initially, I simply placed it in my daughter's ear and it always returned green. However, after reading the directions, I discovered that you should pull up and out on the ear during insertion and, viola! I usually do it 2 or 3 times, and each time it shows similar results (sometimes varies but always in the same range--i.e. 4 one time and 5 the next but still in the red zone.) I have brought her to the doctor a couple of times based on results, even telling the doctor which ear was affected, and each time the doctor confirmed. Now, I simply begin applying liquid silver to her ears at the first sign, and no need to even go to the office (very helpful since she gets ear infections almost once a month). However, this device is not meant for babies under 6 months and you should never replace your instincts.
Do Not Bother!

My doctor told me this thing was a joke and to not believe it. My daughter did not let us put it in her ear at all and when we finally did get it in, it caused wax to be pushed further into her ear. DO not waste your money. Our daughter finally started playing with it on her own while we changed her, but still would not let us use it on her.
Horrible

My wife and I purchased this for our 1-year old, who has had frequent ear infections. This device is a complete hoax, and complete waste of $50. Save your money and use it on physician co-pays.
Specifically, the device was never able to give a consistent reading, nor were the results ever verifiable with a doctor's opinion.
Finally, the device stopped working and would only register an "Error" after 3 months of ownership.
Don't buy it.
WASTE OF MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I purchased this product figuring it would save us a few trips to the pediatrician to have my daughters' ears checked every time I suspected she had an infection. She has had several infections in the past. I checked her ears 2 days ago when I first suspected she may have an ear infection. All three times in each ear, the earcheck read normal. Finally we went to the doctor today, and sure enough she has a bad ear infection in each ear! I came home and tried it again, and it still read normal! I am an intelligent person and can follow the directions, bottom line is--it doesn't work! I have a call in to customer service, but you can't even get a human being on the phone. Another Mom I know bought one and also had the same experience. Save your money on this and just go see the doctor if you suspect an ear infection. What a piece of junk!
Waste of money! Inaccurate!

I bought this item at Wal-Mart for almost $60. My daughter has chronic ear infections and I thought this would save me unneeded trips to the Doctor's office... I tested her ears with this and (after MANY "try again" signals), it said that her ears were fine. A sleepless night and a trip to the doctor later, she had an infection..
