Works as advertised with my 80G IPOD

This plug works as advertised. The Hi/Lo switch on the output port works. I use it with a cassette adapter and an FM transmitter...set to Hi on both. It conveniently charges your IPOD while it's working. The pause/play button on the plug is a nice feature. My only concern with this device is the cheap feel of the plastic amd build quality. Other Griffin technology products I've purchased in the past were not durable (Road Trip in particular). If it lasts, it will be worth the cost.
Great product for any iPod

This is a great little device, and not just for iPod Touches. I use it with my iPod 5G, I am able to hide the iPod inside my armrest compartment where it is out of sight. Only the subtle cigarette-lighter sized control is visible. I use this with a cassette adapter (no aux jack in my car) and the sound quality is great. I also find the controls more convenient that fumbling for my iPod, the AutoPilot controls are always in the same place on the dash! Granted, the usefulness of this item will depend greatly on where your cigarette lighter is located, so consider that before buying. Another factor to consider is that if your lighter is very tightly recessed, the AutoPilot may not fit well as the control head is a larger diameter than the socket itself. However, even if you can't easily reach the AutoPilot controls this is still a very good combo charge/input connector and I highly recommend it.
Note: If you have an old iPod that recharged by FireWire, this will NOT recharge it. I tried with my old 3G iPod (15Gb) and it wouldn't charge. Griffin does not claim that it will charge the older iPods, so this is not a knock against them.
Works great with iPhone 2008-03-02
I bought this product for my iPhone, and even though it isn't officially certified, it still works perfectly. When I first plug it in, the iphone alerts me that "this accessory wasn't made for an iphone - would you like to turn on airplane mode?" I just hit no and everything works great. It charges fine and provides and line-out port so I can use the Sony CPA-9C cassette adapter to play music through the car's speakers. This would also be good for any car that has an auxiliary line-in port because the autopilot includes the necessary double-ended 3.5mm connecting cable. Although I could see the play/pause/skip/backward controls being redundant for a regular ipod, they are great for an ipod touch or iphone since you won't have to wake it up and fumble with the touch screen one-handed while driving.
I highly recommend this for anyone who wants to charge and play music from their ipod touch or iphone in their car.
Does the job 2007-12-29
My old Belkin car adapter did not work at all with my new iPod Touch, and this is the only car adapter that specifically supports the Touch and does not include an FM transmitter. The power and audio output with the Touch works fine, and the physical play/pause button is nice to have available. I've given it 4 stars rather than 5 because I think the price is a bit steep.

This works just fine with my iphone. I also have a ground loop/noise filter ($10 on ebay) which filters out most of the noise you get when a call comes in or the phone is pinging the tower.
Pause, Skip Forward/Back buttons are great. I just wish I could find a good dock for the phone to keep it upright. My fan vents won't work with those clip on docks and I don't want a suction cup on my dash or windshield.

I use this with a Pro.Fit mount and a 160g ipod. It has a 3.5mm out and comes with a cable that goes into my aux in. So I don;t have any idea what the FM part is about. It is great because it not only charges and gets the best sound out of the ipod (instead of FM or the headphone jack)but also has its own play rewind ff, etc buttons so I can set on shuffle and if i want to skip a song, I just touch the panel in the ashtray. Nice product and good quality.

I don't know why they call it the Griffin AutoPilot FM Transmitter for iPod. It's not an FM Transmitter. But if your car comes with an aux jack then this is the item you need to get clear sound from your ipod through your car stereo.
