Good sound for the price
2008-09-20
I bought the Denon AH-C551K about 6 months ago and for the amazon price of about $50, they are hard to beat. I used to recommend the sony ear buds to my friends as an upgrade to the cheap headphones that come with their music player but the denon have a much better sound. I also have the Shure E2c and SE210. The denon wins with the bass response and the Shure is better on the mid and high-end but they also cost more. Overall, an excellent value.
Poor sound quality

I only gave these headphones 2 stars because I thought that no one would take this review serious had I only given it one star.
Both Amazon and Head-Fi had great reviews for these headphones, which is why I purchased them. Well, I just opened them up and they sound terrible. I even tested them against my iPhone headphones and IcematAudio headphones, which are both very cheap headphones. The C551's sounded significantly worse.
BuyNow's shipping and processing time was great, though.
Best Bang For The Buck

Solidly-built, crisp performance, great low-end. Probably the best sound for the money out there.
Excellent crisp sound quality.

Build Quality: Excellent and sturdy, thick cables and sturdy plugs
Isolation: So far so good for me with the supplied plugs, others who may not feel comfortable may want to try out the Sony Ex series plugs.
Sound Quality: The sound quality is phenomenal, it beats out my Shure e4 on the bass and has very good mids & highs. I've used it for a couple of days an I can't put them down.. I've never enjoyed using plugs this much to be honest.
I've had the Eytmotic er6i & the Panasonic HJ-E70 & Shure Ec3 & Ec4, V-moda Vibes, and I'm most comfortable with these, it's worth the price and more.
I can definitely recommend these to anyone.
Awesome Low-End HiFi Phones

Awesome low-end hifi phones. The bass is phenomenal and the isolation is awesome, especially with Comply Foam pieces. A++ would buy again, etc etc.
No Bass

sound-isolating earbud design * machined aluminum earbud casings * acoustic optimizer structure adjusts the sound pressure to produce clearer, more detailed sound * includes an assortment of earbud sleeves for a comfortable fit * includes 35" extension cable and hard shell carrying case * frequency response: 15-24,000 Hz * impedance: 16 ohms *
Nice clarity
2008-06-12
These are nice phones. They are built solid for their size. They are comfortable, block out noise, and have wide frequency range that is fairly flat across the whole range. I use them when I go out bicycling and they block out most outside noise. I do get some wind noise but it is at a tolerable level.
The bass is good when I angle speaker part upward when I insert it into my ear canal. You might have to play around with the angle to get the best sound. These phones have great sound clarity and low distortion. After reading different reviews, I picked these over the Shure line because the sound quality from the Denon's is just as good maybe better. Plus the price is alot nicer. I like them and would recommend them without hesitation to any friend.
Best by far

These earphones are simply great. If you don't insert them properly or use the right interchangeable piece you will NEVER experience it's true potential. I bought two of them within two week; my wife tried the first pair on and gave me an ultimatum (let her keep them or love myself...) I chose the former...
Improved bass over the ipod headphones
2008-05-28
I was expecting a great improvement on the sound quality over the ipod headphones, the only big improvement I hear is the bass. I really get annoyed with the extension cord, the weight of it does pull down the earpiece. Overall good but not what I was expecting.
So-So

They sound OK. The real problem is the stupid extension cord. Why have one??? It makes no sense to stick a huge connector in teh middle of a headphone cord. It only adds extra weight to the cord and it's ugly.
They could have made the first segment longer so that most people won't need to use the extension.
