Editorial Review
The FreeAgent Pro is an external hard drive with a sizable 1TB of storage capacity. What sets it apart from most other external drives is its ability to move that data to where you need it most. Automatically send a project to a flash drive, copy audio to your MP3 player, upload photos to Shutterfly, and put your entire "My Documents" folder to FreeAgent. Those are just a few examples of what FreeAgent Pro can offer you. To keep everything working smoothly, FreeAgent Pro can also perform automatic revisions of your content. Automatic revisions of your content help keep you safe from goof-ups 5 Year Limited Warranty Interfaces - FireWire, USB 2.0 and eSATA System Requirements - Windows 2000 Pro, XP Home or Pro, Mac OS X 10.3, 10.4 as read only Approximate Unit Dimensions - 7.5 (H) x 1.4 (W) x 6.3 (D) Approximate Unit Weight - 2 lbs

Do not knock this over- buyer beware! 2008-11-18
This is an attractive drive that works great....that is until it gets knocked over. It is easily knocked over based on its design, and they dont tell you in the literature that your data will then be unrecoverable! Their customer service is also unreliable in their answers. So you'll get a new seagate if still under warranty, but your data is toast. We even sent to a super expensive (estimate of $3,000) data recovery place and they couldnt even get it back for us. SAVE YOUR MONEY AND BUY TWO 80GB external hard drives and make two backups of your data and keep in separate places- learn from our mistake!

Seagate Free Agent Pro 1TB Firewire 2008-11-16
The Seagate Freeagent Pro 1TB unit was delivered before expected and performs as advertised using Firewire in a 3 unit daisy chain configuration. I use it exclusively as a backup disk for HD video and RAW format digital pictures (25,000+). These type of files take alot of space so 1TB may not last too long. The backup software that comes with the unit, Memeo AutoBackup, performs perfectly for the described configuration. The backup software is configured to automatically backup multiple locations where it automatically moves a copy when new files are added or a change is made to an existing file. I keep up to two copies of changes but if you desire, that can be increased. By the way, if you make adjustments to a RAW file, this counts as a change. Speed seems adequate but is more or less transparent after the initial copy because all backup operations are fully automatic. I highly recommend this drive.

Does its job quickly and efficiently, but included software a no-go on 64-bit OS. 2008-11-13
I bought this device to back up my growing media collection, and the 1 TB capacity and FireWire 400 capability add to the attractiveness of this solution. Backups (unfortunately via the awful Windows Backup) are fast enough, and restores were expedient and complete. The richly featured backup software included with the product bombs on 64-bit Vista, and Seagate support confirms this as a problem with no current workaround. Too bad, but I'll manage without - will look for a freeware solution soon.

Solid So Far 2008-11-11
I bought this drive to house a very large music collection (AIFF files). Purchased the drive b/c of Seagate's leading reputation after dealing with severe heartbreak after the failure of 2 Western Digital My Book's.

I've had the drive for 2 months, seems quiet, efficient and unobtrusive.

So far, I recommend.

Fast and Safe 2008-11-07
This drive performs very well, it's fast, doesn't overload YOU with required software (interfacing software is optional), and a well planned physical footprint have made this my new favorite. Additionally it is nearly physically tamper proof - you will destroy the housing if you attempt entry (we tried). One drawback I ran into was difficulty in using certian (will not name) wipe software to completely remove all data. This could have been due to a compatability problem with external drives or a problem performing the wipes over the interface i was using (USB instead of firewire or ESATA). All around this is an awesome external drive that you can use to perform real-time backups, scheduled backups, or even store your music and movie collection. I am very satisfied.

1TB at a great price. 2008-11-02

Seagate as a network drive 2008-10-22
Seagate ST310005FPA1E3-RK Freeagent Pro 1 TB 3.5-Inch USB 2.0/FireWire 400 External Hard Drive

I bought the Freeagent Pro 1 TB for use as a network backup drive connected to my Linksys router [WRT600N]. With three computers on a home network, a centralized backup was desired using Norton 360.

The drive works just fine for my purposes but not with Seagate software support. Seagate does not support my configuration but I was able to create backup folders for each computer through the Linksys router software and it works great. If direct management of the drive is necessary, I will have to hook up directly with one of the network computers.

If you are into looks, this unit will add class to your setup, no doubt. Runs cool with no excessive heat. Highly recommeded with some reservation about Seagate not supporting a router direct connect configuration.

Real fast shipping, and great product overall. Only use if you are comfortable with an external power (not USB) supply.

Working like a Charm - Great External Drive 2008-10-15
I love my Seagate. This is my second Seagate external hardrive. The first one i bought is "Seagate 300 GB 3.5" External SATA Hard Drive." Still use it for my files but i needed more space. The only gripe i have with the 300g is holding the on/off button extra hard to get it to start. After that, it's working like a charm.

After tons of research between different brands, I decided to go with a brand that hasn't failed me yet. I needed more space and went for the 1TB Seagate. It has a nice shape; small, thin & slender, lightweight and it glows (organge light). My only gripe with this one again, is the power button; it really doesn't have an on/off button. I'm not sure why Seagate inventors would do something like that. They made the button as a touch sensitivity but with no sensitivity. This is the biggest downfall.

It comes with the features advertised - firewire & usb cord; no manual since the software is install on the cd. Their is backup availability, but i don't use that. I don't use firewire so i cannot make a comment on that. Saving with the usb is fast for me and easy, lag time is expected since i'm moving thousand of files at once. I would recommend a user to read the reviews and to do their own experiments to test out the transfer rate since it varies by person.

I have vista so my pc didn't have a problem recognizing the drive, once i got it on. I'm downloading stuff like crazy and saving all my cds as mp3s.

I'm not giving it a 5 because of the on/off button and because i just got it. But i do recommend seagate as the brand to go; i had 2 so far and no issues.
