Just What i needed 2008-07-10
I'm not an expert to compare with old versions but it is just what i need

Word dosn't like the word gentlemen 2008-07-09
Maybe its me but when I type the word gentlemen, it changes to Gentlemengentlemen and locks-up Word.I have to do a Forced Quit to get out of it. I have tried this many times with the same result. If you are well through your document and you type gentlemen(?) without saving previously, you are in for a lot of frustration. I don't know why this happens. Computers!!!!!!!!! Other than this oddity I like the programme, haven't used it much to get totally familiar with it but it does what I need.

Office 2008 for Mac 2008-07-09
So far, I really like this product. I heard some iffy things about it before I ordered it. But it hasn't done me wrong yet! I use mainly "Word" for word processing - Resume work, cover letters, newsletters, calendars (for my classroom), etc. And so far it's been WAY easier than what I was using before -- Pages. I've used both this, and Office on Vista, and to me this is much easier. Vista's office is very difficult to find what you need and the last time I tried to use it - it kept printing my documents backwards. So, I much prefer Office for Mac!!

An "upgrade" in Microsoft's grand tradition 2008-07-08
So far, I have only used Excel:

1. As usual with a new version of Office, the interface involves more, not fewer, mouse clicks to accomplish old tasks. MS seems to think we all love digging through as many levels of interface as possible to accomplish a task.

2. I haven't seen performance this slow in Excel in 15 years. (Click. Beach ball. Click. Beach ball. Cut. Beach ball. Paste. Beach ball. Drag. Beach ball.) It even gives warnings that you may have to wait awhile before your "complex" chart will appear on screen. Go get a cup of coffee, and your chart might be ready when you get back. BTW, I'm not using an ancient machine: OS 10.4.11, 2.16 GHz Core 2 duo, 2 Gig RAM. I don't recall ever doing anything in the 2004 version that required more than a 2 second wait.

3. All of the statistical analysis tools appear to have been removed. (Great! More waiting and fewer features!)

I can't wait to try Word and PowerPoint!

Office 2008 is junk and arip-off 2008-07-08
This piece of...um...software is awful. Buggy and slow even after two patches. I do like the way it handles track changes, moving them to the right so the text reads smoothly with out embedded changes. But we're trying to use this thing to finish up a book, and we've spent more time trying to make it work and fix problems it's created than writing! We're seriously thinking of including a comment in the acknowledgments.

They really need a Files menu selection titled 'Save As Corrupt' instead of just 'Save As.' It'd be much more accurate.

Save yourself time and aggravation and use something else.

Excel Does not work 2008-07-18
Word and Powerpoint seem to work OK, but Excel is so slow as to be worthless.
I have a brand new Mac Air, and I did get all the updates, and I tried resetting file preferences.
I have Parallels, so I will be installing Office 2000 on the Windows side of things so I can use Excel.

Incompatible with Spaces 2008-07-17
I would love to be able to stop using MS Office. Unfortunately, collaboration at work requires that I use Word 2008. Word 2008 is completely incompatible with one of the features of OS 10.5 that I use the most frequently, Spaces. It's been over 6 months since Office 2008 was released, and Microsoft hasn't fixed this bug. Ridiculous.

great! 2008-07-17
I recently bought a MacBook after using a PC all my life practically. I downloaded the free trial of iWork 08 and tried using Pages (the Apple version of Word) for school, but found that it was not as good as Word for writing papers. After becoming frustrated with Pages, I bought Microsoft Office for Mac and have been very happy with my purchase. It is set up a little different that Office for PCs, but is much easier to get used to than Pages, considering I am not used to using a Mac. iWork does have a nice version of Excel that has a lot of useful templates, but since I do not really use them, I am okay with sticking with Excel. I highly recommend Office for Mac if you are used to PCs.

Adequate 2008-07-10
This is an adequate product for adapting Office to the Mac operating system. If you are use to operating Office in Windows, it can be frustrating not finding the features in the same place on the Mac. Overall, I am happy with the functionality.

Mac Office is AWESOME! 2008-07-10
I love Microsoft Office for Mac. It's even better than using it on a PC. It was very easy to install and very easy to use.
