ORIGINAL CAST RECORDING YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN MUSIC AND LYRICS BY MEL BROOKS -- IT'S ALIVE!

From the creators of the record-breaking Broadway sensation The Producers comes this monster new musical comedy, YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN, based on the Oscar-nominated smash-hit 1974 film. A wickedly inspired re-imagining of the Frankenstein legend based on Mel Brooks' classic comedy masterpiece, the story follows bright young Dr. Frankenstein (that's Fronkensteen) as he attempts to complete his grandfather's masterwork and bring a corpse to life. Together with his oddly shaped and endearing helper Igor (that's Eye-gor), his curvaceous lab assistant Inga, and in spite of his incredibly self-involved madcap fiance, Elizabeth, Frankenstein succeeds in creating a monster - but not without scary and quite often hilarious complications.

With such memorable tunes as "The Transylvania Mania," "He Vas My Boyfriend" and "Puttin' On The Ritz," The New MEL BROOKS Musical YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN is scientifically-proven, monstrously good entertainment...and the only place you'll witness a singing and dancing laboratory experiment in the largest tuxedo ever made. YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN features music and lyrics by the three-time Tony Award® winner Mel Brooks, book by Brooks and three-time Tony Award® winner Thomas Meehan, and is directed and choreographed by five-time Tony Award® winner Susan Stroman. The show stars Roger Bart ("Desperate Housewives"), Megan Mullally ("Will and Grace"),Tony-Award winner Sutton Foster ("Drowsy Chaperone"), SCTV's Andrea Martin and Christopher Fitzgerald ("Wicked").

YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN opens at Broadway's Hilton Theater - Friday, November 9th!

Pleasantly Surprised 2008-09-27
Being a fan of THE PRODUCERS I was excited when this show first was announced, and then dismayed by the so-so reviews it received on Broadway. Still, having heard a couple of tracks off of the cast recording and loving them, I purchased the YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN cd, and thoroughly enjoyed the entire score. Sure, the critics had it in for Mel Brooks and panned his project, but the score and the cast are all top notch. Definitely not Sondheim, but if you love music along the lines of Irving Berlin, you will not be disappointed in this recording.

It put me right back on Broadway! 2008-09-17
My kids and I saw this play on Broadway last month. I bought the CD (which was significantly cheaper at amazon than at the theatre!) to sort of help keep the memories alive. I figured we spent a fortune on the tickets, what was a few more bucks for a memento? The CD works perfectly! It puts me right back in my seat on Broadway to experience the play all over again. The recording is clear and full. The characterizations of all the actors come through very well.

Another Score for Mel 2008-07-06
Don't believe what you read in the New York Times, especially those caustic reviews by Ben Brantley. He needs to go! Get Clive Barnes back! "Young Frankenstein" is a wonderful, hilarious romp parodying the musicals of Cole Porter and Friml and Youmans. It takes you back to when musicals were fun and frolicsome. There are great performances from everyone. Only Roger Bart doesn't match the mayhem and I think that is more of a directorial matter. I would love to see someone like Bill Irwin or even Robin Williams takeover the role.

The audience simply adored the show when I saw it. And the CD is well worth the price. If you're in New York take in "YF" and another Brantley reject "A Catered Affair." Take a pass on "In the Heights" which is over-hyped and a Latino rip-off of "Rent" and "West Side Story." I just heard that "In the Heights" has already recalled all future discount tickets even though they were purchased before the show won the Tony.

I guess the inhabitants of the Heights won't get to see their own story now.

Fantastic! 2008-06-20
Having been to and enjoyed the musical whilst on holiday in New York I decided to buy the soundtrack when back in the UK. From the first song to the last I loved the soundtrack and, if nothing else, can remind me of the time I spent in New York and the show in particular.
The tunes are great, the lyrics highly amusing and very much in keeping with the original film.
I can't wait to go back to NY to see the show again. Thank you Mel Brooks.

SO Disappointed 2008-06-12
I purchased the CD with the hopes of clever and catchy tunes as we have come to expect from Mr. Brooks. I was sadly disappointed. Too much crudeness and not enough cleverness. I could barely make myself finish it once thru, much listen to it a second time. Yuk. and that's my professional opinion!

Young Frankenstein is MAGNIFICENT!!! 2008-06-05

Excellent 2008-05-22
Pruchased the item becuase I had tickets to see show. CD arrived after I saw the show!

Disappointing 2008-05-18
I guess Mr. Brooks wanted to repeat his previous hit (THE PRODUCERS)and emulate the successful parody achieved with SPAMALOT. These intentions have poor results in this musical which makes no honor to the classical movie directed by the same Mel Brooks. The songs are quite dull, the music sounds so old-fashioned and conventional that it seems you've heard all this - and better - before. I had great expectations with this album and I was convinced that the musical would be a sure candidate in the Tony race but, after hearing the album, I understand its absence from the nominees.

BEST MUSICAL SCORE IN YEARS 2008-05-17
Having been a big fan of The Producers, I was unprepared for how much Mel Brooks has matured as a composer and lyricist since then. The score for Young Frankenstein is nothing short of brilliant and one of the best original scores I have heard in years! Not only does Mel prove himself in comedy numbers like Please Don't Touch Me (excellent), but he also goes into an operatic area for Let My Creature Live, something Sir Webber might have written. Then he goes into a very dramatic "He's Loose" when the creature escapes. There's the vaudeville-style Together Again, a very funny German melody in Roll in the Hay (simple but brilliant), the very old-fashioned Broadway sound in Join the Family Business, a very fun Transylvania Mania, 2 beautiful balleds Listen to your Heart and Please Send Me Someone, plus other songs that are absolutely brilliant.

I could not have asked for a better 2nd score from Mel Brooks. Those who do not like this score are those who do not appreciate the type of musical this is-the score is similar in style to the old-0fashioned broadway sound, and some Broadway moderns just can't accept this style anymore, opting for Phantom, Sondheim or Drowsy Chaperone type scores. But this is Broadway at it's best and if you want a fun, catchy, wonderful score, I recommend this as the best original cast recording and composition in many years, way ahead of the Producers (which I loved) in brilliance.

Bravo to Mel Brooks. I was saddened to see three days ago that the American Theater Wing and the Tony Nominating board chose to completely snub this wonderful musical. I now have absolutely no doubt that the Tony Awards have taken the path of the Academy Awards and are becoming more and more political. The Producers took every single award in it's Tony year, and now they feel they must snub an even greater score. No best music nomination, no best original score, nothing for Susan Strohman, and sadly enough, no best actor nomination for lead Roger Bart. I now have a much lower view of the Tony awards and its process. Xanadu, which was nominated, was mainly NOT an original score, this was. That tells you what is happening to the Tony's and they deserve the loss in ratings they are getting every year on CBS. Sad there won't be a musical number from Young Frankenstein on the show this year.

Give this recording a chance if you love Broadway. Every time you listen to it, you will love it more. Not one song is less than terrific.
