Editorial Review
Highly skilled athletes owe much of their elite performance to superior muscle response and flexibility, but it's tough for most casual athletes to train with similar dedication. Enter the Creative Fitness Rug Runner deluxe package, a compact rug-based fitness tool that improves a user's coordination, balance, and strength. Ideal for skiers, skaters, surfers, joggers, climbers, and a host of other low-key athletes, the Rug Runner integrates muscle development, coordination, and response training into a single fun, challenging activity. The device features a pair of contoured rails that sit on your carpet, along with a pair of foot treads at the end of the rails. By alternating weight from one tread and rail to the other, you'll increase your range of mobility, improve your stamina and balance, and work yourself into peak physical condition. As a bonus, the Rug Runner deluxe package comes with attachable poles and horizontal grip bands, helping you further refine your workout regimen for specific sports.
Although the Rug Runner is first and foremost an athletic trainer, it also offers a great way to rehabilitate foot, ankle, knee, hip, and back injuries. Even better, the Rug Runner will help you reduce the risk of future injuries thanks to improved coordination and greater strength in all muscles, tendons, and ligaments. The device can even enhance your mental edge by challenging your mind and body as you condition for sports and daily activities. Want to achieve your maximum potential while bringing a little "fun" into your fitness? Look no further than the Rug Runner.
The included poles are terrific for people just learning how to use the Rug Runner, or for skiers looking to practice and perfect their downhill maneuvers. They not only help with balance, but they encourage you to work on new skills and develop upper body strength. The nylon-coated horizontal grip bands, meanwhile, further work your arms and shoulders. By positioning the bands parallel to the rocking motion of the Rug Runner, you can perform long arm lateral raises to improve overall strength, build the heart muscle, and increase circulation.
The Rug Runner--which holds up to 300 pounds with little or no stress--is backed by a one-year manufacturer's warranty.

Great concept, needs some improvement
2008-01-24
The Rug Runner is a great idea, but still needs some tweaking, especially with the accesories. Assembly was quick and easy, and we were using it (attempting anyway!) within just minutes of having it out of the box. It is more cheaply made than I was expecting (it is made out of thick plastic), and it is not as easy to use as they make it sound. We regularly fell off of it at first, but improvement did come quickly. We are now able to stay on for several minutes at a time, as long as we don't go above a walking pace. I don't really consider this a downfall, because I think having it be a challenge will keep it fun (and it is fun!) and interesting. Even at the walking pace, my heart rate goes up and I can really feel it in my leg muscles, so I do think it will provide a decent work out. The poles are very poorly designed and very cheaply made. One of our poles would not lock in the extended position (so was too short to really do us any good) and they both regularly fall out of the attachment holes they are supposed to stay in - basically rendering them useless. We have contacted Creative Fitness to ask for a replacement pole and for advice on how to get the poles to stay "attached" to the runner, but have gotten absolutely no response from them. (I will change this post and my review if they are willing to correct this problem, but at the moment I am not holding out a lot of hope). The exercise bands that come with it, do not attach to the Rug Runner, and so are rather difficult to really use. If you wrap them under the Runner, they will either get worn through or they will slip/slide so you can not get enough tension to get a decent workout from them. If I had to do it over, I would buy only the Rug Runner itself without the accessories - even though they look cool and really fun - they just do not work as shown. That, and the lack of response from the company when contacted about a problem, has earned the Rug Runner Deluxe a mere three rating.
