Tweener Headphones

I do a lot of recording and mixing and sometimes need to do a quick job on the road. I bought these without listening to them beforehand because they were cheap (60 bucks when I bought them) so if I broke them while traveling wouldn't feel too bad, and probably still had decent sound. Now I've listened and used them.
They are worth sixty dollars or so. These are not high end head phones - they jack up the gain so you can use them with mp3 players and have a metallic kind of sound - but they are much better than you typically get for 40 dollar or so headphones. They are acceptable for my use and are easy to use for a couple of hours at a shot because they fit comfortably.
I would say the build on them suggests they won't take much of a beating. But that's the nature of headphones in the sub-100 dollar price range. This is a decent product that gets over the bar for an audiophile, but will not wow you.
Close, but no cigar...

Frankly, I found these headphones fairly lifeless, "muddy" in the mid range for pop/rock/classical music, vocals and video dialogue were indistinct, but otherwise full range yet giving a "compressed" [dull, dead] sound stage compared to my audiophile quality Sony Studio Monitor Series MDR-XD400 headphones which are superior to the Live!s in all respects. I recommend the Sonys without any reservations, as well as the more highly rated--yet less pricey than these Live!s--Audio Technica headphones, but I use headphones almost 24/7 so full range sound quality AND clarity is paramount to me. The CL Aurvana "DJ" headphones I tried were equal to the MDR-XD400s, but AT NEARLY 16oz, they were too heavy for me to wear for long periods and I returned them for that reason.
Good headphones in the low range of the high range.

Very good sound, and an over-all crisp and clear rendition, that is as 'faithful' as they state on the box.
I use these to record and mix in my humble home-studio, as they have a large Hz-range and don't clutter the sound, as many headphones do. They're closed, but not shutting out the engine of an airplane.
Sound is always a question of taste. You don't need these to listen to Timbaland, who sounds just as great on my cheaper Sennheisser HD 205's. But if you want to get that nice feeling of sitting in the middle of the symphony orchestra, or learn all the vocal arrangements on "What's going on", or just hear all instruments clearly, Aurvana are a good buy (if you can live with the pretentious name) ;-)
If money is no problem to you buy Grado SR 225 or higher. They are a different ballgame and the best I've ever tried.
