Editorial Review
Shelby's new album, Just A Little Lovin', was inspired by one of her favorite singers, Dusty Springfield. The album features nine clasic songs associated with Dusty and one stunning original written by Shelby, inspired by Dusty.

just a little lovin'

Not too many white females can claim the privilige of achingly romantic blues renditions done in their OWN way.
i do think this album not only does that but her unique voice and style tell a story not only her own but that of her audience; don't listen to it unless you are prepared.
She's No Dusty

Very disappointed in this CD. The woman has no range and I was bored (imagine-a boring Bacharach song) I was hoping that someone could do justice to Dusty. Not to be, at least, not yet.
Great CD

This record is a tribute to Dusty Springfield. If you loved Dusty Springfield's music you're gonna love this even more.
Great Vocals

This recording is a very stylized offering from a great vocalist who combines all of her country, rock and pop skills into a really nice tribute to Dusty Springfield. A satisfying, sentimental and relaxing listen from beginning to end. I wish Shelby Lynne would record more often - she's really unique.
Strange interpretations of old favorites!

I find it curious that the most of these songs that we are all so familiar with seem to have only the vaguest familiarity to Shelby Lynne. Her "interpretations" I think would only appeal to those who have a fondness for those who sing disjointedly to themselves along about the time the tavern is closing. As far as being a tribute to Dusty Springfield, it certainly isn't in my opinion.

Simply Breathtaking

When I heard that Shelby Lynne was doing Dusty covers I thought - how boring . . . I love Shelby's voice but do we really need to keep hearing these same boring songs over and over again? How wrong I was!
The whole album is very understated and that is it's beauty. At times it almost sounds like acapella and I found myself almost wishing it WAS acapella because Lynne has the most beautiful amazing voice and the talent to use her voice like very few artists I've ever heard. Ella Fitzgerald comes to mind, Patsy Cline, Nora Jones (some of the greatest singers of all time.)
I absolutely fell in love with this CD. A few words to describe it:
Hauntingly delicious, sexy as it gets, full of surprises and completely original - - a true work of art and a masterpiece.
If you're looking for elevator music or schmaltzy pop music - something hum drum or run of the mill -- do not buy this cd.
If you are looking for inspiration and 100% pleasure then DO buy this cd.
And if you can't appreciate it - - maybe you should slow down and take a deep breath.
BTW this cd is great for dinner, dancing . . . . and you know what else (use your imagination here) Perfect to go with a bottle of red wine, a dozen roses and a night with your sweetie. A great listen all around for driving, eating, walking or whatever it is you might be doing.
I am 100% satisfied with my purchase of this cd. I am also very tired of all the whiners and complainers on the Internet - Please get a life!
Maybe this cd will put the spark back in your tired life . . .
Understated Tribute To Dusty
2008-07-26
"Just A Little Lovin'" is indeed loving, intended to be a loving tribute to one of the most influential female vocalists of the rock era, Dusty Springfield. The two's careers could be more different. Springfield was a premier blue-eyed soul singer. Lynne started off as a middle of the road country singer who has expanded her musical boundaries, including recording the best-selling, critically praised CD, "I Am Shelby Lynne" in 2000.
Lynne's tribute is not a go-for-broke belter, but more like a understated, afraid of ruining the original material version. that doesn't mean that the CD is bad. Far from it, the love and care that Lynne has for the material is evident. Her versions of "I Only Want To Be With You," "Anyone Who Had A Heart," ""The Look of Love," and "How Can I Be Sure" are faithful and and surefooted.
This CD might not blow someone away, but they are orchestrated solidly and carefully, and anything that brings attention to the great Dusty is well worth a listen.

I have seen Shelby guess starring on several country music programs. I like her. "Just A Little Lovin'" opened a new world to her music, and brought back the sound of great blues/jazz female singers of years past. If you enjoy a simple, raw, sexy, female voice, you will love this cd....

It was great to hear those old standards made just a little more smoky, a little darker and a whole lot sultrier. Thanks for that!
