Editorial Review
In addition to her successful solo career, Sia has also worked extensively with ZERO 7; She provided the vocals for the hit singles "Destiny" and "Distractions" from their debut album Simple Things, as well as tracks on their subsequent albums, When It Falls and Garden. She also collaborated successfully with MASSIVE ATTACK and WILLIAM ORBIT.
Sia has had huge club hits, including "Drink To Get Drunk" [remixed by DIFFERENT GEAR] and the UK garage remix of "Little Man" by WOOKIE
"Breathe Me," from her album Colour the Small One gained significant attention when it was used in the elaborate final scene of HBO's SIX FEET UNDER.

Humble and Humbling Genius
2008-05-02
I first heard Sia as part of a group called: Zero 7. She has such an accessible and memorable quality to her voice. I then heard her interviewed on Nat'l Public Radio (US), and was so impressed with how humble and easy going she presented - so refreshing in this age of stardom. So many artists seem downright enamored with themselves - not this one! She was open about her fears, light-hearted in her answers, and seemed genuinely pleased to be given a chance to share her music.
Now to her voice - Fantastic! She sang live during the radio interview and demonstrated tremendous skill. Her pitch was always spot on. Sia shows true talent both for writing and performing. The songs are amazingly catchy and will find their way into your thoughts. I look forward to future releases from her!
one of the best albums i've heard in a long time

When I saw the cover art for this album, I thought that it would either be very good or completely horrible...After listening to the first couple of songs I knew this album was great.
The quirkiness of the melodies and lyrics is refreshing. I've been searching for an album like this for a long time.
5 star ratings are handed out too easily on here, so when I give an album 5 stars, I really, really like it. (And actually, I give this album 4.5 stars b/c only an extreme few are perfect.)
I've noticed by reading other reviews that a particular song on this album might be someone's favorite and another person's least favorite. B/c of that I won't go into detail as to which songs I like most/least, but I will say that I really enjoy the majority of these songs. Her voice is great (reminds me of a mix between Fiona Apple & Fergie, but I do wish she would enunciate better at times so I can understand more of the lyrics without looking them up), the lyrics fresh, and the music fantastic. I had never heard of Sia prior to this album, but after listening to this one, I've already ordered her first.
love it!

Love love love this cd. Admittedly I am not familiar with her other work, but I think this is great. Beautiful voice.
This is wonderful, genius, lovely, artistically marvelous

This is one of the BEST cd's this year (so far) and if you count videos into the mix this would have to be the best.
Every song on this is remarkable for one reason or another...but ACADEMIA has to win hands down for originality.
It's Sia!!!!! You know it's a work of art!!

Love her, love her voice, love her lyrics, her music, her personality. She's an amazing artiste! Sia is a true and rare talent in the age of talentless sugary pop-tarts. You need to see her live because her magnificent vocal range is pure, real and she makes it look effortless despite the belting and fermata. Did I mention that I love her?
Sia the Magnificent

I have all of Sia's solo efforts, from the relatively unknown Healing is Difficult to her latest musical opus. I've also had the immense pleasure of seeing her in concert with my fiance in arms. Sia needs only one word of description: breathtaking. Fin.
No real problems here

Another reviewer described Sia's album as her audition for American Idol. Sia does indeed have an amazing unique voice, but there were far too many drawn out whoOoOoOahs, AaAaAhhhhhhhHhHhs, and OoOoOoOh's throughout the album. I felt this often not only distracted from some of the awesome melodies, but also, her voice has many unique quirks and qualities that are lost when she does this. That being said, I do think the strength of her voice somewhat guides the style of her music, and the album was deceptively much more R&B ( and really not as quirky and upbeat and you may think it would be from the album cover and from the leaked track "buttons") than I thought it would be, which is cool, but unexpected. I love Sia as much as the next one, but some of the lyrics seemed rushed and uninspired, like the track "soon we'll be found" and "death by chocolate"...a definite downgrade from her last album, and from her work with Zero 7. Though "Academia" and "Lullaby", are awesome.
So underrated

Sia is one of the best singers out there. Very personable with the crowd live. This record is a happy one and it's great! I feel lucky to have seen her in a club because she's going to be huge!
not too long....wrong track order
2008-05-26
I didn't discover Sia at Starbucks, but through listening to samples of the quirkier faster paced songs. The album seems too long because she starts off with the emotionally powerful, self pitying ballads and only picks up the pace with the 5th track "The Girl You Lost to Cocaine". And whenever the pace picks up,she switches to another ballad. Now maybe the lyrics are uplifting, but musically it sounds like typical r & b whining.
If you like that, then maybe this is for you, but for me urban soul is booooring and depressing. I'd listen to Mary J. Blige if I wanted that, not some chick from where ever Sia is from.
Ă…nyway, I catch shades of early Prince and Fiona Apple, but without the selfishness apparent in those artist's lyrics
the only highlights which give you any musical diversity are
The Girl You Lost To Cocaine
Academia (brilliant!!)
Playground (cute)
Electric bird (beautiful harmonies)
not enough to overcome the onslaught of whiny r & b
Wonderful CD!
