Didn't even last 6 months!!!

I bought my WD Hard Drive around February 2008, formatted it, used it heavily to back up my precious data, had to re-format it twice since I initially bought it and around July, it finally kicked the bucket.
I'm no expert on tech stuff, but I'm definitely no novice either, but I know crappy hardware when I see it, or in this case use it. The flimsy plastic case should of been a dead giveaway, but I bought into it and continued to trust it.
My next drive is going to be an Iomega FireWire drive.
Product worked as advertised

Works fine. I purchased for backup purposes. I am not very tech oriented so my son had to show me how to use it, but it is fairly simple once you get it set up. There is a manual to print off and tech support is offered. You might want to uncheck the extra software offered (Google toolbar and some photo editing software) unless these are something you really might use while installing. Wish software companies would explain this a little better to those of us without superior computer skills.
good little drive

the portability is great. y cable works fine no probs. the drive has been flawless. i know the issues with the power supply but its no problem to plug into two usb ports or a powered multi port usb hub.
the bad reviews i read here seem like people who dont know what theyre doing or talking about.
Does its job quite well.

A nicely made little unit, that quite efficiently backs up my 250 gb laptop hard disk. It runs quietly, sits on 4 rubbery feet, and takes up very little space (even less if I stand it on edge). My only quibble would be that the unit's LED does not change color or strobe to indicate that the unit is working, meaning I periodically have to check my laptop during major back-ups, to see if the unit is still downloading.
I also invested in a hard-shell storage case for transport/storage, but that's strictly optional.
Not satisfied with the dealer
2008-07-04
I was not at all satisfied with the dealer of this product. They displayed a different product on their web site...specifically because of which I paid an extra $10 cause it was exactly like my previous one which got stolen.
On receiving a different model, I called them up to let them know of the error. But the customer service representative was not able to login to the Amazon portal and help me out.
Review of recently purchased WD 320 Gb Passport

WD's Passport provides high-performance portable storage for your PC and Mac. Light and rugged, it's easy to carry and no external power adapter is needed. power adapter - they are powered directly through the USB cable.

Very convenient for the traveler. Compact and lots of space for video and images, as well as for encrypted back up of your computer's documents and folder (easy to use backup software included)
Just as I ordered

The product came 2 days before the expected delivery date and was in excellent condition. It's working great and the whole transaction went well.
Good device

Nice, compact little drive that almost fits in your pocket. No problems with the USB cables as many users have reported. I've tried it on a 6 years old PC and it still worked, if you have something older than that you should consider upgrading your PC instead of complaining about the hard drive. It comes pre-formatted with FAT32, but if you want to store files greater than 1 GB you might want to format it to NTFS before you use the drive. A little note that actual storage space is about 290-297 GB not 320 as it says on the box.

Awful product! I originally bought one and it stopped working after about two days. Went back to the store and wanted to exchange it for another but they didn't have one in stock...so I got a refund. Went to another retailer and bought the same drive there. Got it home, tried to get it to work and...NOTHING! Tried it on three separate machines: two PCs and a MAC and the same thing. Poor quality control and weak build construction. How else can you explain two drives from two different stores failing?
