This laptop stinks. Not sure if it is the operating system or the laptop itself. It locks up constantly. The bluetooth does not work. Would definetely not purchase this junk if I knew its performance. Shame on me I should have done more research. Evertyhing on this laptop feels cheap. Everything cheap plastic. The CD/DVD tray feels very unreliable and cheap. Bottom line, you get what you pay for. I was wondering why Best Buy discontinued selling it.
Sleek but noisy

This computer looks great and is lightening fast. And considering size and speed were the main reasons I bought it, it delivers as promised. I read many reviews before buying and the one that convinced me to buy it was a comparison to the Mac Air. It is not as thin, but according to the reveiwer it packs more punch and is an equal on features. There are only 3 drawbacks I found with this Toshiba... 1) it is noisy! The little fan or whatever is going on inside is churning all the time. It is quite a talkative little bugger. But the noise does not in any way impact performance (there is no lag or drag while it hums and spits along). 2) the keypad is too soft. I tend to pound on the keyboard and this one has a little too much flex. and 3) the finger sensor to enable access w/out a password doesn't work very well. It has you scan 6 imprints but when you go to use it to log on you inevitably have to type in your password. I have had this sensor on other laptops (IBM Thinkpad most recently) and most work much better.
Pros...the mouse touchpad is great and reactive, the screen is wide and the contrast ratio is so bright it makes real life seem dull. It is really nice and vivid; It has lots of USB plugs; and I even like the Windows Vista it shipped with!! Vista is very intuitive and the plug and play capabilities are terrific. It even recognized my 7-year old inkjet color printer without the need to download and install a driver. Fancy!

Muy buen laptop, buena marca y un buen precio.
A favor:
1. El peso: muy liviano
2. La apariencia fisica: muy bonito y diseño serio.
3. Las especificaciones: muy buenas caracteristicas para un laptop.
4. La conexion wireless-N: a pesar de que es necesario comprar un router con caracteristicas N para arovechar esta caracteristica, la diferencia frente a otro tipo de conexiones (a,b,g) se siente. Excelente caracteristica.
5.La pantalla: pareciera que 13" es muy pequeño, pero en realidd, y gracias a la resolucion y al wide screen, es un buen tamaño y comodo de utilizar fuera de la casa y la oficina.
6. RAM: buena capacidad, aunque no deja de ser tentador saber como funcionara con 4 Gb.
En contra:
1. Programas preinstalados: al prender el equipo vuelven muy lento el computador y los dos procesadores trabajan al 100%. Pasan unosminutos y baja la ocupacion de los procesadores.
2. Office 2008 trial version con el periodo de rueba desactualizado.
3. Muchos programas preinstlados de Toshiba que no es clara su funcion, ni cuales son indispensables (para poder eliminar los demas).
4. El teclado: a pesar de que es muy suave al tacto, en algunas ocasiones no reconoce la presion durante la escritura.
5. Built-in camara y microfono: a pesar de que tiene el sello de skype-proof, el sonido que recibe el destinatario en las comunicaciones a través de Skype no es bueno y tiene mucho eco.

Very good product. Would recommend to anyone needing a laptop. I have noticed that the keyboard is a little warm, but it is not a concern at all. Very quiet, fans are almost unnoticeable when running. This machine has a voice recognition system, which I have just started learning how to use, but need a microphone for it. Smaller size display is not an issue, and the light weight of the laptop is great for travel. Onyx Blue is a very good color also. Has 3 USB connections for any accessories.
a great litle machine but still under test drive 2008-03-13
I am a brazilian writing in English about a Toshiba Satellite U305 13'3 laptop! I just got it from Amazon. My first "Amazon product". I did a long journay to chose this machine. The candidates were: Vaio, HP, Mac and Toshiba. I tooke the best cost-benefit relation. The laptop is very nice looking, inteligent project and VERY LIGHT. Even more than the others I was comparing with. Hardware is great! But I must say I am very afraid with its software. Going through Internet wireless is an advanture. I got some problem downloading a Microsoft programm and sudenly the machine got off. The only solution was to reconfigure it to the original version. But still I am not so sure I have the problem solved. I hope yes! It would be terrible having to send it back to the US! For you folks living in the States it is no matter at all. You get all the assistance. But for me down here in Brazil a machine like that should not at all have any kind of problem. I hope it will be so. Second point to coment: Amazon was great delivering the product in 2 days as the contract said. But, I must say that it almost did not work. I got a message one day after buying this product that it could take 4 or 5 days do be delivered. Thanks God a new message came right after confirming the 2 days delivering. Big emotions, I hope I will have a Happy End!
good notebook 2008-04-20
This is my 2nd Toshiba notebook. The 1st one was 17", and I find it very satisfactory. However, it's quite too big and take a lot of space in my bag. So I decided to find a smaller notebook and it has to be only Toshiba. I found this cute 13.3" Toshiba with full specification in many internet stores, but Amazon came up with the cheapest price. It didn't take long to get it after ordering. So far, one thing I notice about this product is the areas beside the mouse pad areas on both side (where I put my palms for typing)are getting warmer to hot after using for about 5 mins. Otherwise, this is a good quick notebook.
It have a Big problem with the OS

I bougth a several laptops like this. I like because the laptop look nice and it have a very good configuration, but when I work with it, the laptop has the problem that can't work the DVD unit, when I see the Device Manager appear the message that the problem is the driver. Toshiba support tells that the only way to fix the problem is with recovery cd's.
Is a real problem to have to pass the recovery cds to the laptop because the requerided time. I will not buy another laptop like this model. I don't recomend this buy.
Very nice unit 2008-04-14
I like this computer. The small size is good for me. The graphics are sharp and bright.
Fast. 2008-04-12
This machine is fast. It comes loaded with a bunch of superfluous offers to various software products. Battery life needs extending.

Great little computer!
However, it does have a few glitches. The keyboard does flex, and this in turn makes the keyboard quality seem inferior. The U305-S2816 gets incredibly hot underneath, and the PC Express card slot is badly placed. It is so close to the DVD drive that it looks broken, and bends when you lift the PC on the right.
It does have some good points, however. The machine is lightning fast, very portable and a beauty to look at.
I would still recommend it above other PCs such as Sony and HP.
