Mediocre 2008-05-10
I bought this burner thinking that I'd never have to use a computer to burn DVDs. However this burner doesn't give you the option between AVCHD DVDs and SD DVDs, so I still have to use the computer to make SD DVDs. It also can't use DVD+R or DVD+RW discs. That was a nasty surprise after I spent a bunch of money for a 25 pack of dual layer discs.

DW100 Disappointment 2008-05-08
Unfortunatley if you own a Canon HG10 you will not be able to use this burner unless you have an AVCHD player. The SD camcorders have the option when downconverting to create in standard dvd format. The only other way to convert the files is on a PC.

I need further information before I buy it. 2008-04-18
I do not have this DVD burner yet. I am very interested in this burner. However, there is no any customer write his review until now. Canon does not give a detail description of performance of its playback function. It is not available to download its user's manual from Canon. I do NOT know how to playback the DVD created by this burner. Does it playback immediately after we insert the DVD like common DVD player? Or, we have to wait this DVD burner to transfer back all files from the DVD back to the camcorder before we can see any video on the HDTV? I am very appreciate if someone can answer my question.

Great for archiving high definition dvd's. 2008-07-21
Plays right on Sony ps3 or blue ray player. Better quality picture than blue ray disk .

Easy burner 2008-07-08
Very easy to use. I just wish you had the option to create a menu for the DVD.

Nonfunctional 2008-06-05
I am returning this unit to Amazon. When connected to my Canon FS-100 camcorder, the USB connect icon on the camera flashes continuously, indicating failure to sync. Following the included directions, I turned both units off and on several times without effect.

Good device, poor instructions. 2008-05-29
Overall a good device but beware it does not tolerate any disks but Verbatim. I have tried Sony, LG, TDK and all fail. Use Verbatim and all goes smoothly.

Instructions in the box are not written for the HF10 and are more for the HG10. Some of the translation to English is not well done.

NOT WHAT I EXPECTED!!! NO REGULAR DVD SUPPORT, NO DVD+R/RW TOO 2008-05-14
I should have get Sony HD Cam and Sony version of this!!! I was expecting something like Sony, that support regular burning of STANDARD DEFINITION DVD. No recording support of DVD+R/RW DL!!! Dual Layer DVD-R is too expensive than DL DVD+R.

Sony was the one who first released a recorder like this! CANON SHOULD HAVE MADE A LOT OF IMPROVEMENT AND MAKE THIS A BETTER PRODUCT!!!

UPDATE! My advice is save yourself some money and trouble by buying a DVD recorder/player with HD upconverter and you'll be more happy!

Too bad I have an HG10 camcorder and I can't share a Standard DVD to family back in the Philippines with this recorder.

This is a great if you only want to share AVCHD DVD!

Review: ... "Click! The No Nonsense Guide to Digital Cameras" is misnamed. It covers a lot more than just cameras. In a couple of hundred pages, it includes using a scanner and Adobe Photoshop Elements 2 to rescue faded, damaged family photos, the basic guidelines to good picture taking, how to use Elements 2 to improve your digital photos, and how to print and preserve your pictures for the ages. White, the author of the bestseller "How Computers Work," knows how to pack a lot of helpful, understandable information in a brief no nonsense book.

Review: "This Camera is one of the best in its price range. It takes beautiful clear pictures and can be used right out of the box, but its worth learning all its features. The included memory holds about 20-25 pictures so I upgraded to 128mb. I reccomend getting a 128mb card and the Sony camera case. Not only is this one of the best cameras in its class it includes decent software and rechargeable batteries that are at least a 20$ value.
HIGHLY reccomend over canon, kodak, and fuji. One more thing this camera has CARL Zeiss lens (if you dont know, great lens) all the competetors have generic lens."

From the Back Cover The megapixel hype
The fact is a camera’s megapixel rating is only a measure of how many pixels (photosensitive sites) an image sensor has…. An image sensor is simply one component of an entire system that produces a digital photograph… So resist buying into the megapixel hype when you’re choosing a digital camera. From Chapter 1
